I count myself as one of those young persons who is now a few years older, LOL! I remember a friend of mine playing this on his portable cassette player; “ghetto blaster”’ as they were called (probably can’t use that term anymore?) in the early eighties. It was the summer of 1983, a year after Avalon had been released and Roxy Music was all but done. Young people who lament contemporary music versus the music of the past (such as this) need not be disenchanted. Thanks to KZread, Sirius XM, iTunes, Spotify, etc., etc., there now exists a plethora of resources to both listen to, and watch, music performers from the past. In 1983 None of these mediums were even thought of. You had live albums to listen to, or you went to a concert to see your favourite artist live. Now you can listen to, or watch these stellar musical performances from yesteryear from a device held in the palm of your hand. So in that regard young music aficionados of the present are truly blessed.

yeah when I first heard it on the radio in 82 I said whose doing neil young better than neil?
If Neil Young had a British accent this is what the song would sound like, even the guitar work is Neilsy imo
What a dreamy dreamy scene. Flowing skirts gorgeous men and music real music!
j'y étais..............souvenir!!!!!!!!!
That is the best Roxy live version by far. The musicians are all really into it. Jimmy Mailing is a man possessed. What a performance !

I love the grin on Spenner & Andy Newmarks' faces - they know that they've nailed it!
Saw them do this at Wembley in 82. Best concert ever. My mate went the next night and nearly 40 years later can still feel the pain I had that she was there and I wasn't!
Love this song. One of the best versions
❤❤❤Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music ❤❤ Sounds that play good feelings to my heart.
love the look on Alan Spenner and the drummer faces- grinning from ear to ear because they know they've nailed it!

Well this is absolutely brilliant, like all Ferry's covers have been over the past 40 years!! (anyone able to spot that I am a fan?)

Best recorded version of this song that I have seen. Great singing, fab sax from Andy, and Phil's guitar work was excellent. I wish I had seen them do this LIVE.....

ANDY NEVER DISAPPOINTS!
First Roxy Music song I heard way back when I was 13-14. Couldn't get it out of my head. As much as I love Neil Young, there's just something about the instrumentation of this cover that pulls you in.

I was that same age. This song, the live EP and another live recording (King Biscuit Flour Hour?) turned me into an instant fan. I knew who they were but this made them a favorite band. Their breakup that year was devastating for me. I'm a big Neil fan but this song is owned by Roxy Music.

I saw this at Wembley absolutely fantastic!!
This song used to play on the radio. When I was 16 I heard it in my $300 Chevy BelAir and it was one of the songs that inspired me to take up the drums. Never knew who the drummer was and I discovered another drumming idol in this time period. But I just cannot forget hearing this drum groove on the radio and wanting to play it as a teenager.
Brilliant guitar work
This is superb ! Jeez I miss Ferry & Roxy ! #memories
This sounds like a hurricane briliant
Superb song performed by a fantastic group that is Roxy Music !
I bought a DVD of this many years after seeing it live they start off looking so cool and end looking absolutely wrecked! Get in.
never knew they did this. Brilliantly done!

This gig I have seen a number of times and not a Roxy fan I find it awesome. What a band they were.
OMG!!!!...Neil Hubbard looks so much like Neil Young in the same song from his Live Rust concert...one of my all time favourites.....as is Roxy Music Live in Frejus....amazing !!!!

Whoa! Andy Newmark is the man! What a killer beat he had on this. Did David Gilmour get that red strat from Phil the Man?

One of Niel Youngs greatest songs. This performance is the best live cover of any song I have heard. The song fits Bryan voice amazingly well and the band and backing sings performed flawlessly. Love this track along with John Lennons Jealous Guy which is out of this world good.
I know I know it's Neil Young's best song. Jeff Healy did it, and Brian Ferry beautiful interpretation with a great altsax.. But listen also to the original version by Neil Young! I love it all! I was in a hurricane on the S.S. Nieuw Amsterdam and I know the feeling!

OntarioJoe Oh yeah, that was a great song too.
Top from Roxy Music
Beautiful version
Perfection.
Just a pity it was boiling hot weather in Frejus and he had to dump the tux and bowtie and unbutton the shirt and let it become wrinkled and his fringe droop too. He looked SO splendid at the start of the gig.
Roxy Music influenced many many big eighties bands plus a good few seventies bands. Including John Lydon.
Wasn't there a non live, studio version of this song? I thought I heard it when I was younger but not able to find it anywhere.

my absolute favorite version of this timeless classic, a regular on my playlist. I searched high and low to find the vinyl when it was released, and again digitally. The version that went on to the record is a better rendition..... just sayin......

How did they get Mark Cuban to sit in on the bongos for them back in '82?
there is jazz hiding inside here
I quite like the reggae beat - nobody can match Neil Young's version though I have to say
