I saw them do this song live in Boston in the 1980s. It blew me away. I'm a big Neil Young fan as well as Roxy music fan too

Bryan Ferry seems to have some great kind of experience in picking cover tunes. This one by Neil Young and jealous guy by John Lennon. Awesome 💜🤎🖤

Jealous Guy caps it.
Let's hear it for the backing vocals too. Always have loved Mr Ferry has lasted the pace far better than most and has always been authentic and keeps music live. No miming here. One of the North East's greatest creators. Not bad for a miners son imo.👍👍
I was at this concert :)

bryan Ferry/Roxy Music has never let me down with their covers of other peoples songs. it's not because they do them better. it's that they always make them their own. they own them.
Although Neil Young's original of this song is fantastic, I feel Bryan Ferry has put his mark on it and given it a more sexy edge. Can watch this over and over... love it... Gorgeous!

Bryan Ferry `simply` takes a song and gives it his magic touch both musically and vocally. His own interpretation of a song is ALWAYS better than the original!

@@martinmcdonald4207 I’m afraid it doesn’t even come close to the original, never mind all the live versions that NY has done of this over the years. Some originals just can’t be bettered, though he did make good attempt at Jealous Guy.

Ferry takes Neil´s music to heaven!
Fantastic version. The groove is totally different from Neil's version, and that, to me, is what makes it. Maelen and Newmark trading between each other, and locking in. Phil's solo at the end is inspiring (I play guitar). Thank you for posting this.
Once I thought I saw you In a crowded hazy bar Dancing on the light From star to star Far across the moonbeam I know that’s who you are I saw your brown eyes Turning once to fire You are like a hurricane There’s calm in your eye And I’m gettin’ blown away To somewhere safer Where the feeling stays I want to love you But I get so blown away I am just a dreamer But you are just a dream You could have been Anyone to me Before that moment You touched my lips That perfect feeling When time just slips Away between us On our foggy trip You are like a hurricane There’s calm in your eye And I’m gettin’ blown away To somewhere safer Where the feeling stays I want to love you But I get so blown away Once I thought I saw you In a crowded hazy bar Dancing on the light From star to star Far across the moonbeam I know that’s who you are I saw your brown eyes Turning once to fire You are like a hurricane There’s calm in your eye And I’m gettin’ blown away To somewhere safer Where the feeling stays I want to love you But I get so blown away
I prefer this version to the original! For those who don't know it, I would also recommend the cover of "Like a Hurricance" recorded by The Mission.
When it all comes together perfectly, the result is magic. Born in the cauldron of conducting live performances, why would we wonder that today's music will never reach this height. Bands don't get this tight because they are all talented they get this way by playing together, over and over.Magic on this stage.

I love Roxy AND I love Neil, this is a real win/win for me!!!
Bryan Ferry's voice is just incredible. Fabulous on his own songs and everything to neil young. Thank you for all the decades of Roxy music.
Wow! - Talk about putting your mark on a song! I never thought I'd hear a version more than I liked Neil Young's! Bryan gives it a whole different feeling - this version feels sexier and much more plaintive than Neil's but not desperate which I think is really hard to do - there's a fine line between sounding plaintive but not desperate, something that I think is very hard to do. And the band is obviously having a great time performing . Fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing this!
Great cover of this oldie
Eine der tollsten Interpretationen und dann der Schlagzeuger von Santana. Einfach genial, unerreicht!!!!!!!!!!!!
Magnificent.!!! LOVE Mr.Ferry and the Roxy Music.just cool and talented.
I'm really blown away...
Maybe the best live performance of Roxy Music The band at the peak performance with brilliant musicians such Alan Spinner on bass and Andy Newark at drums The solo of Phil Manzanera was epic and peaked up the rhythm of the song and the band Timeless ❤
I used to really like NY, but after charging $200 per for a solo acoustic show, this southern man really don't need him! RM's and NY's "Hurricanes" are both awesome.
Absolutely. One of the best live performances ever. He still does this live. I saw/heard him do this. Less than2 yrs ago (Chicago)

I like this version of the song better than the original. Bryan Ferry is incredible.
Brilliant Andy
First heard this on Roxy's The High Road EP. What an awesome band!
Manazanera rips the guitar part! Some of his finest live work ever! How underrated is this guy? At 7:02 the drummer gives Neil Hubbard a wry smile, like 'HOLY HELL, PHIL IS GONNA SHRED!'
Reggae it up, breathes new and vibrant life into many classic tunes.
My cousin Alan Spenner on bass

the best cover of a cover EVER
God Bless Phil Manzanera, if ever Roxy Music needed a perfect fit. Amazing guitarist with a lot more in his bow since the heady days of Roxy Music. Rock on Phil Manzanera.

God bless you Bryan, you crazy fk, I used to drink with you in Santa Monica, and I was crazy too, hope you are well
Bryan Ferry is the man. Guy ooozes everything.
The best!
It ranks as one of the best covers ever. There is just something about this that is missing with Neil Youngs version.

Pirate Bhoy Having lived thru both eras, I rank each as perfect for their time. Neil's original was all about the guitar shred. This adds the full-on 80's sound: love the sax solo.

Neil tends to throw this song away.
When I first heard this on a record of Bryan's which was the Jelous Guy EP I did not know anything about Neil Young, but I really liked Bryan's version of this song.
Yeah, I see your point. Purely from my opinion though, even though I love the Neil Young original, the Roxy Music version just adds a whole new dimension to the song which I think just works so well. Just like Jimi Hendrix made All along the Watchtower his own.

it would work if they got neil to play the guitar!
How far afield can Bryan Ferry go, but to a Neil Young song? Yet he owns it here! (Nothing against Neil Young's version. I loved his version first, before I ever listened to Bryan Ferry. So different, but both men's versions are essential, if you love the song.)
neil young !!!
If Neil Young could have chosen to write this song for someone I'm sure it would have been Brian Ferry. Great version of a great song.
is there a more underrated guitarist out there than Chris Spedding? wow - in Chicago this week Tuesday night - the word is/was revelatory.
This is one of the best Neil Young songs but Roxy cover is better than the original.
Alan was a great bassist.
correct..ferry's version of sympathy for the devil is just awesome..it really is as good as the original...so is this
Neil Young is inimitable. Bryan Ferry makes its own theme. There is a version. In comparison is lost. But Ferry endorses an issue that has nothing to do with him. Incredible. I was there.
There's a saying that goes something like this, IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT. That's one reason why I'm not a fan of cover version. BUT this is one of those rare occasions that song took a great song and made it GREATER! Another example would be Streethearts version of the Rolling Stones Under my Thumb. Check it out if you can find it. Be Well.
I would pay SO MUCH MONEY for an album of Bryan Ferry/David Byrne duets
@801liveable Hold On I'm Coming 8,Oh Yeah 8,In Every Dream Home A Heartache 2,Same Old Scene 1. I can't believe he only played, "Same Old Scene" once in 26 concerts. It's one of my favorite songs.
@arendm Sure it is, and I love Neil Young.
One of the very rare occasions that a cover version surpasses the original. Neil Young should be proud.
Not too many people can cover a song as good or better than original. Bryan Ferry is one of them and Joe Cocker...
@poppyorsini8480

Absolutely! ! - Have you ever seen Joe Cocker do "You can lead you hat on "? I love Randy Newman but in the concert clip I saw Joe Cocker owned it. Plus there is an unbelievable sax solo. If you like Joe Cocker you should really check it out.
@801liveable I was thinking about it but they added a show in Canada (the only one) in October so that's where I'm going. Cleveland is pretty cool though. I saw a Browns game last year. Pretty impressive stadium. One thing has me wondering though. I was Googling the set lists that Bryan has been doing & it looks like he hasn't played, More Than This" on this tour. Any idea why?
A truly brilliant version, but Neil's will always rule. Take another listen to his wailing, extraordinary guitar, almost human in its expression.
@801liveable You & I are 2 of the few in North America. Have a great time in Cleveland. I did. Peace.
It's time for Bryan and Roxy to Join the HOF.Long overdue.
I think it's this tour that has my favorite version ever of "A Song for Europe" but I can't find it online. Anyone?

@801liveable That's why I have to travel 8 hours by car to see Bryan Ferry this fall. It'll be worth it though.
Definitely in the family photo of covers: Santana Black Magic Woman, Jimi Hendrix All along the Watchtower, Johnny Cash Hurt, Michael J. Fox Johnny B. Good!!! ( last one was a joke )
no hay sentimiento en esa forma de cantar ,no lo ves ,y todo lo demas es un grupo cada cual a lo suyo, neil canta y toca ,si le añades el sentimiento que tiene su forma de interpretar ,pues es el mejor, se sale
Kudos to Bryan for taking this on but, even though B.F. is my all-time favorite singer, Neil put more heart into this. His version is no less than epic.

The best version of this is the live cut on "Heart Still Beating' Much better sound, arrangement- truly incredible
Andy Newmark ... great drummer, played with Roxy Music, George Harrison, Rod Stewart, Sly and the Family Stone, among others I think...

I wonder what year this is from?
@801liveable Would you like a spoiler of what the probable set list might be?
There is a superior version of this on 10" vinyl. I used to have it, but sadly no more. Does anyone still own a copy they could upload?
I heard RM covered this and came here to hate it. It's actually damn good. Thumbs up!
Andy Newmark
At Newcastle University in the 1960's I turned down the singers gig in a band because I was doing an engineering degree and time demand was too much. They asked a fellow doing an 'art' degree (daubing paint) instead - Mr Ferry. Done well hasn't he? I do this song, just me and the guitar. I bet he couldn't do that. I backed him once on bass at a uni gig. My fave Roxy song was 'love is the drug' and we did that in my band through the 1990's. Prefer Neil's versions (multiple) of this song.
