    If you have a crack in the block, DO NOT reuse it! Even if welded, bored and flanged liners with O rings, it can/will fail again! A crack indicates a bad block casting and can not be reliably repaired. The 4.0 and the 4.6 blocks out of a P38 RR are better candidates but should all be properly pressure tested to assure that there are no cracks. See RPI Engineering on you tube for more details.

    All internals removed, everything inside is great shape. Liners are on the way from the UK and the everything headed to the machine shop, probably in about a week. Follow-up coming soon.

    Dear sir,I guess I need to be more pacific I just sent you a comment on the 2001 Discovery 2 it has 130,000 original miles.After the over heat is when I experienced the oil and water on the dipstick,I let it cool off till the next day and it fired right off I heard no ticking sound,I am hoping that changing the water pump and changing the oil will do the trick but Iam sure Iam going to have to do a top end gasket set to stop the Coolant mix and Iam sure the heads are warped as well.I guess what Iam asking is when I do the gasket replacement what should I look for when the heads are off to see if I might have a sleeve problem or would the over heat cause such a problem?I would like to know before I pull the motor as well and have it shipped to a Machine shop to do all of what you prescribed Iam on a Limited budgets could you please help me in anyway any comments good are bad would be greatly appreciated.The last head gasket job I did was on a 98 Range Rover and it definitely had loud exhaust blower back through the gasket this one has no noises at all the 2001 it is a bouch motor so Iam a little Skeptical about the whole thing in general on what to do and Land Rover dealership wants 500.00 to tell me what’s wrong with it!Ive Checked Land Rover forms and they keep saying the head gaskets on a over heat I’ve asked a lot of Land Rover guys and Iam getting mixed reviews down to buy a new motor all together!Please help Thank you 🙏

    Hello, I'm Thinking of Buying a Disco' V8 that has a Ticking that starts when the Engine is Wamed Up. How can I tell if it's the Sleeves/Liners, Hydraulic Lifters, Rockers etc ? as there are a few Things that can make that Ticking Noise. THANK YOU.

    After owning 7 land Rovers, RRCs and discos. LS gen 3 gen 4 swap is the quick and easy answer. Tophat cylinders dont solve the bad head gasket design. New oil pump doesnt solve the overall lower oil pressure designed block. The problem with resurfacing a block that comes from the bad tooling at factory. Resurfacing will actually throw off the head tolerance alignment, such as the head bolts angle change after the grinding.

  • @dajiban

    @dajiban

    Early on the LS swaps were a real clusterf^@k but they're much better now. If I didn't have that unique opportunity of locating a new P38 4.0L engine to install, especially now, I would strongly consider replacing the 4.6L with an LS using a kit.

    Dear sir,I have a 2001 Discovery 2 That over heated,Would the sleeves you are referring to be affected by over heating?I have coolant in my oil thanks

  • @dajiban

    @dajiban

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hard to say. Most likely the head gaskets would be primarily affected. When you are passing coolant into the oil it generally gets past the head gaskets; coolant past the liners has a tendency to burn off in the combustion process.

    Thanks for the great video! I recently purchased an '03 Disco with this motor. I knew the issues, but it was in decent shape and very cheap. Recently I have been hearing a tick or knock, but only when the engine is cold. Once the oil is up to temp, I no longer hear it. The vehicle is not losing any coolant, but it loses a little oil, nothing I'd consider concerning. I gave it an oil change and used a genuine LR oil filter, but that didn't seem to help. Are you familiar with this issue?

  • @dajiban

    @dajiban

    Yes, this is a common issue. You should join the Land Rover Discovery II Forum ( landroverforums.com/forum/discovery-ii-18/ ) where you can get information on this and much, much more from experienced owners.

    Just one quick question - has anyone considered replacing engine with diesel? Just wondering if anyone had tried it.

  • @dajiban

    @dajiban

    7 жыл бұрын

    Some owners have installed diesel in place of gas engines, and Discos (primarily out of the U.S.) can have a TD5 fitted from the factory which was a popular option since the V8s get such poor fuel economy.

    Does any know someone or a shop that can do what this channel is doing? I have knocking noise and have been told it's the sleeve that sounds like it has gone bad. I love my Rover but not that mechanically inclined. I live in Los Angeles, CA.

  • @born2wrench

    The new sleeves are generally just have a upper outer lip .so the machine shop will cut out the area around the sleeve at the deck of the block about 80 thousands . what he said

    My Mechanic did a head gasket job on my 2000 Disco and in less than 100 miles I've got a Cracked Oil Pump. Is there a connection between the Head Gasket repair and the Pump?

  • @dajiban

    @dajiban

    4 жыл бұрын

    Kristof Thibaud No direct connection since the front cover which contains the oil pump gears is typically not removed when replacing head gaskets.
