I love the smell of brake cleaner in the morning

Why is it that I find more interesting people on KZread then in real life. I have my gearhead friends but they are always too busy to work with each other like it was back in the 80's. We always had my dad's friends over to work on cars. Sometimes we would work on my dad's Jeep or someone else's car. 8f we weren't camping or fishing we were drag racing or working on his car. In 1984 we started my 69 Dart that we put a 383 in it and I got 8nto a accident with it when I was 15. I didn't have my driver's license yet and that was a problem. We put around $20,000 in it and it was ready for me to drive. My dad would drive it to work once a week. Then I had to screw it up by fishtailing around a corner and slammed into the side of a 0arked car. Of course it had to be one of the people I delivered the morning newspaper to so it was extra embarrassing because I knew them. My dad had worked for the Rockford police department so they knew me so I wasn't taken through normal channels. I was taken to the traffic division and my dad came to get me. When I heard hey Roger what are you doing here. He said I'm here to pick up my son. I'm 15 years old 6'1" and 230 lbs and I hid u der the table. I knew my dad was going to be pissed. I asked the police officer to ride down the elevator with us. When we got out of the elevator and we were outside my dad said I don't want to hear one word. I said but dad and he said that's 2 and he punched me in the face not hard but it was a good attention getter. He got my attention. I should have known better than to take the car for a ride. He sold the car a few days later and I was on my own to get a car. I got a 71 dart with a slant 6 in it and my dad wouldn't let me build a fast car untill I learned some respect. It was my dad's way of always reminding me of how I screwed up. That was my only run in with the law. I didn't want to let my dad down again. I wish my brother was like that. My dad passed away in 2003 5 days before my birthday. My brother refused to go to the recording studio where I was working and no one was allowed to have a cell phone on in the studio. After my mom called my brother after the hospital said get here now. Then he came and got me. My dad passed away 10 minutes before we got to the Cath Lab. He waited for us to get into the hospital before he let go. It took us about 10 minutes to get up there. Before I went to the studio my dad and I had a ritual everytime I left the house. He would say "Be good" and I would say I always am and I would also him on the shoulder and I would say I love you pops. Well that was the last thing I said to him. Very fitting last words. Very fitting last conversation with him. Anyway I'm not sad that he is gone. I just think of all he taught me and so far I haven't had any major malfunctions building engines so 8 guess he did that right. Good luck on that motor. I hope to hear it run in something soon.

So much different than a small block chevy.... Very nice to see . Keep up the good work and stay away from the pubs !

Oh dear vodka is never a good thing to have too much of lol. Good idea at the time though

Very clean inside! I say 30ish thousand miles Due to outside oil grudge, Oil pump kit, with stiffer springs should do the trick.

Could it not be from an early Range Rover they came out from the factory with an electric fuel pump for some markets.

According to the engine code it's from a 1972 Rover P5b ... however I believe it's been fitted in something else as the engine mounts had been modified ...

Am I not right in thinking these engines are aluminium not cast iron, the same rover v8s were fitted to MGB GT V8s too, making the car lighter by 200kg. If I'm right thinking they're aluminum surely there wouldn't be any bad corrosion?

Yes they are ... based on the Buick 215 from the early 60's . Basically the same engine fitted to the Rover P5 P6 SD1 Range Rover MGB GT TR8 ... even the Freight Rover van. ... and 1000s of kit cars and hot rods etc.... Being ally corrosion can be an issue but the water passages look excellent

One of the biggest issues is when run without antifreeze as it has protection for corrosion in it.... so with just water the passage ways start to get eaten away.... quite often around where water jackets pass from block to head....

Engine weighs same as the 4 cylinder 1800. Must be much lighter than the 3ltr 6 in the mgc
