In winter of '84 he played in Sarajevo during winter Olympic games,, few hours before the concert I happened to bump in him as he was walking outside the popular olympic hotel in mountain above the city with his band mates around him, snow was everywhere and just as they passed me by - he slips on snow, and as I was nearest - I was first to help him to get up,, and he was very appreciative, and as he got up he gave me hug and handshake,,,,, of course I could not miss the moment and I asked him for autograph - piece of paper I had, but it took us few moments to find pen,, what intro to the best live concert I ever attended? This moment of meeting the legend I will never forget...

I was in Ballyshannon back in September, 2023, didn't realize that Rory was born there and when I saw his statue in town, I flipped. Later that day I wandered into and art co-op and had tea with one of the owners. He was about the age the Rory would be now, 75, and I spent several hours there listening to the guys Rory stories. He said Rory would come back from Cork and spend time with friends and family there. This gent used to play with Rory when they were little, not so much music, but fun, kid stuff. Great experience - one of many that I had in Ireland.

He was such nice guy!
Saw Rory in early 70s as opening band for Deep Purple. He had on old ripped jeans, red flannel shirt and an old fender strat and proceeded to destroy the arena. Opened up with "Cradle Rock"and blew away everybody! Next day went out and bought everything I could find of his! I'm 67 and I was a fan from that day forward. One of the greatest performers I'd ever seen!!!!!

Absolutely brilliant. The great Rory Gallagher. His music will never die. Irelands finest.
Saw him several times in bomb-blasted Belfast during the seventies, the only major star to be unafraid to come and play for us! Can't say how much he was loved for that alone, on top of the brilliant music!

When he played in Belfast in 1984 in a legendary set at the Ulster Hall, my older brother went, but I was just too young to be allowed to go by my parents. It's one of my biggest regrets. But at least we have footage to look back on. Most KZreadrs point towards his performance of Shadowplay at Montreux, but for me, the version from that night in Belfast tops it due to the sheer intensity and the completely unbounded enthusiasm and craziness of the crowd bouncing around like lunatics (it wasn't an "audience"). The roadies were dragging people off the stage who just wanted to touch the great man. Just a mental night... it doesn't get better... and the finish of the track when you think it's done and then he fires it up again... just awesome. His LPs are fantastic, but it's the live performances that set him apart from the rest. No fancy lights shows or visual effects, just sheer unadulterated blues/rock that smacks you in the face, grabs you and doesn't let go. The GOAT, bar none.
Rory was something very rare , a true master of the Guitar, any Guitar and also a great performer and humble man.

Saw Rory at a small University gig in Florida around 1972. I was lucky enough to be right up on the small stage - he was maybe 5 feet away. Just raw, unbridled talent - blew the roof right off the place. He was one of the best to ever strap on a Stratocaster - a truly remarkable musician. Bravo Rory!!

Of course he was one of the greatest guitarists the musical gods gave us, but equally great was his soulful voice. Thank you for sharing.

I agree 100%. He is rightly revered for his virtuosity on any type of guitar, but is often not credited enough for his singing. Bluesy, soulful, gritty, just a wonderful fit for the type of music he wrote or played.
Happy heavenly birthday today to Rory. Still one of my favorites - I started listening to him when I was 14 or 15 years old; 67 now. So glad I got to see him live. This opening acoustic set pretty much has all the reasons why he's one of my favorite guitarists, and inspirations. The electric set is just icing! RIP Rory.
Rory in his prime with The Band. Such an honest musician/bluesman.
People you are watching one of the greatest ever.... the boy from Ballyshannon County Donegal.....
Absolutely fabulous these german TV live concerts were broadcast in FRance late at night but that was worth it to stay awake late
The best white blues performer and one of the best guitar player ever!
I visited Rory’s hometown of Cork and went to the small music library they’ve established in his honor. It was a moving experience. I’m 65 and have heard all the great blues and rock guitarists and to my subjective opinion, Rory had as much command over his instrument as anyone I’ve ever seen or listened to. He was also an incredibly nice and humble individual. I had the opportunity to see him perform at a small club in Philadelphia in the mid 70s. The performance left me as impressed as I’ve ever been by any musician I’ve ever seen and I’ve probably been to several hundred concerts over my six decades. If you haven’t seen it, Ghost Blues, the documentary about Rory, is very well done. Hope you enjoy it. ☮️💚🍎

Only one thing to say about Rory, simply he was the GOAT
Saw Rory in 73 or 74 in Birmingham Town Hall when the band failed to turn up being prevented by fog and Rory did a wonderful acoustic set and asked ones from the audience to join him on stage and jam. Best concert ever and they still added in the proper concert at the end of the tour to fulfil the tickets.
Bravo ! Rory forever !

the greatest beating the shit out the dung! oh man, how i love this! what a wonderful treat! how can pain cause that much pleasure? Rory, we love you, especially in this band, all masters at their craft and we will never forget you! hell, how could we????
I first encountered Rory Gallagher on Friday August 2nd 1968 ( I was twenty then) when he was still leading his trio called Taste. By that time I had already seen Jimi Hendrix live on two occasions. But for me Rory was even more exciting than Jimi. The sounds he was getting out of his battered old Vox AC30 amp that night was incredible. The gig was the regular Friday blues night at the California Ballroom in Dunstable. When we found out he was playing the following night in Saint Albans Civic Hall only about another ten miles down the motorway, we were there like a shot. Rory’s playing that night was just as impressive as the previous evening, he was in incredible form. Jimi Hendrix was once asked by a music journalist what was it like to be called the world’s greatest guitarist. Jimi, modest as ever, replied “ You should be asking Rory Gallagher that question”.
A transcendent talent he was. He could play practically every instrument and play well. A very talented man was Rory. As the likes of him we will never see again on this planet.

We have one and he is also play in Roch palads and he is still a live Popa chubby not forgotten ❤
His solo acoustic version of Nothing But The Devil Blues is as fine of an example of blues as any performance I've ever witnessed. From his choice of guitar, to playing it as a lap steel slide to start the song, to leaving space within the song for both the sound of his foot stomp keeping time and showing off his vocal prowess by singing the notes he was playing on guitar, he gave us an awesome display of what the blues can be in the hands of a true artist. His immense talent, combined with his instinctive understanding of the blues as a method to use for communicating with others, puts him in a very special group of people. He never forgot his roots and could always relate to what people went through from day to day. I thank those who made these videos, which aren't the same as seeing him live, but still demonstrate his artistic genius.

My brothers Cesar and Hector are a big fans of Rory as me, my brother Hector is a musician (cello player), and since 2005 he has transcrip into black and white in scores, a good bunch of Rory's songs, maybe 100+ of his songs, but didn't have the chance to contac the Rory's trustees to publish the scores in book for several years, maybe some day will be, in the meantime in my daddy's house we can play all the songs we like... peace & kudos to you out in cyberspace from Guadalajara, Mexico julio-4-2020 ✌🏻😎
Saw Rory first time Wolverhampton civic 1976 calling card tour saw him many times after that his music sends a shiver down my spine still. My favorite guitarist of all time will be having a drink for him on 14 June god bless him sadly missed

how these guys play so good when they're all sweaty?? rory's absolutely beautiful, oozing talent with the whole body ♥
This concert is amazing. I love the acoustic stuff in particular, Rory is a beast!
What a talent ! He wrote great songs - played others - and his voice complimented his music .
Rory slid right into the band in heaven way to early 😢sure glad he was here😊😊😊
What an group of musicians, so tight and Rory just adding the cream on top with both Acoustic and Electric in a an amazing layer of just crazy mixture of blues, rock, country and the odd sliver of trad to top it all off. Can you imagine what the youngsters nowadays would have made of his performance.
I'm only 30 but Rorys been my favorite guitarist the last decade. I hadnt listened to him much in years and it seems like he's being recognized even more and I'm all here for it!
Saw him play on a sunny Sat. afternoon in Frankfurt 1972. Never heard of of him. Changed my life. See my avatar

Mentioning Frankfurt caught my attention, so I´ve just listened to some stuff of your ´78 Chippewa Lake Park Gig. Good stuff - too bad there are no pix. If Rory kind of made you do that - it´s brillant, isn´t it? Best wishes from Frankfurt! M*
