    Ladies and gentlemen, Jorge Navarro is not fooling around. This man transformed a medium quality recording (I own the DVD, I know) of a great show into something so delightful that anyone in their right mind (that's right) would have to consider it one of the top 10 most important and impressive musical documents of the 20th century. I'm not kidding, it's up there with the original rule-bending score of the Rite of Spring, with A Love Supreme, with Duke Ellington's American marriage of African and European influences, with the best work of Varèse, Berg, Ligeti, Messiaen, Reich, and all those other wonderful composers. Hats off to Jorge Navarro, all hail!

    True that. But "metal"? I understand the use of said term to describe various segments, but I wonder if it is the best descriptor for the heavier sounds. I am not critiquing at all, just pondering the music you rightly refer to as "unclassifiable stuff". Sure, metal. Why not? And regardless of classifications, FZ is the ultimate musical savant and master of every type of music, transcending genre boundaries and inventing several new ones all of which reflect his genius and skill In short, you're right: No one does it like Zappa!

  • @grahamokeefe9406

    @grahamokeefe9406

    @@michaelkottler Zappa specifically used metal as a reference. You might know about his hand signal system? He had hand signals for things like reggae, ska, and other things, and one of them was metal (he would mime "big balls" for it). Is it "straight" metal? Of course not! It wouldn't be Zappa if it were. Now, I know metal fans can be touchy about that kind of thing. God forbid you confuse death metal with black metal or something, but as a reference for a particular type of sound, I think it applies.

I also did a pop culture research paper on him and how much he had contributed to the counterculture movements (which was a lot). The most inspiring thing he did, I believe, was getting young adults educated on registering to vote. This is what America needs to focus on more if they want government to be run OUR way. But I digress, all I am trying to say is that Zappa really did do a lot of things to be hailed a hero on untouched ideas of his time. My generation needs a Zappa. A Frank Zappa.

    I think this has got to be my favorite live musical performance ever recorded. Zappa is an absolute legend, totally underrated and an exquisite genius in so many ways. Possibly the funniest guy around in his day and he influenced so many incredible musicians, bringing out the best in their character and playing ability. What a band! Don't personally think they will ever truly be beaten. Utterly, breathtakingly incredible!

    @@alancumming6407 Everybody. Most people don’t understand genius. I’ve been trying to get my son to have a listen. I’d never steer him wrong. His response is something like ‘he’s kind weird isn’t he? I tell him a little weirdness is a good v thing. I’m still trying. He has no idea how much he’d love FZs music.

    @@absolutelypositively It's a bit of a stretch to say 'everybody' underrated him and 'most' people don't understand genius. Frank is famous and highly regarded as a guitarist and composer. Several books , thousands of articles and interviews, films and documentaries and he is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There are so many talented people playing his music now highlighting his mastery of melody and rhythm. But there is so much music in the world and if people don't like what they hear there is tons of other stuff to listen to. No need for anyone to be rated or underrated, whatever that means. I have loved Zappamusic for over 50 years. I know people who like what he does and some people who could care less. That's how it goes.

    @@alancumming6407 Perhaps it’s that Frank certainly didn’t get half the credit he should have. I’m not far behind you in years I’ve loved his music(48) and have seen him 17 times, met him twice, once in of all places a ‘Holiday Inn’ in of all places ‘Baltimore!’ Met the band and Cap Beefheart too. Spring 1975 I was16 and it was my 3rd FZ concert. It’s all good. I agree with you. I guess I wish he was seen as the genius he was as opposed to the weird guy on the toilet seat. Maybe it’s better that way though. We’re not done with FZ though. The Black Page will see to that.
