Roots in Compton: Planting Seeds of Racial Equity with Al Camarillo

Professor Al Camarillo’s father arrived in Compton, California from Mexico in 1914. In the mid-1960s Latinos had only a small, segregated barrio presence as Compton transformed from a mostly white to a mostly African American population. Professor Camarillo will share personal stories of his upbringing in Compton, California, in the 1905s and 1960s and how his experience shaped a career of developing ethnic studies and advancing racial equity.
Al Camarillo, Leon Sloss Jr. Memorial Professor, emeritus
