Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen on her legacy, China and the future | BBC News

Taiwan will enter a new era on Monday, as President Tsai ying-Wen hands over power.
She's served two terms in office. And in that time, she has faced growing pressure from Beijing, which sees the self-governing island as a breakaway province.
The Chinese President, Xi Jinping, has said that what he calls 'reunification' must be fulfilled, and Taiwan has effectively become more dependent on support from the US to ensure it continues to self-govern.
Our correspondent Rupert Wingfield-Hayes has been to meet President Tsai, and ask her about her legacy.

Then she won her two terms and gave beautiful speeches full of promises and delivered NONE. That is why Lai, the new president elected also from Tsai's party, only got 40% of the votes compared to Tsai's nearly 80% in this past November presidential election. Don't listen to what they say, watch what they do 😂

@@kevindst That was one of the reasons, yes. I personally would not deny the hard work that Tsai did regarding diplomatic relationships. However, hiding behind the propaganda of that ONLY DDP can deliver democracy in Taiwan to the voters domestically and create excessive fear among the nation, while some DDP party members continue to exploit the famers and fishermen into selling their livelihood to photovoltaic energy companies so "certain" contractors (usually companies own by the DDP members' families)can obtain profits from them shows zero democracy in my eyes...only pure greed.

The world also needs to stop being such cowards when it comes to this truth. But you got to admire Biden, he openly declared this. So the world knew and still bend towards US anyhow. Losing it to US's regime would also be a monumental tragedy for the entire world.
