Can you explain to me what makes Ronaldo Nazario so special? Everyone says he’s the best but personally I don’t see what makes him outstanding. I always felt he was an ordinary striker who’s reputation became way overblown after scoring in the 1998 Champions League final against Lazio as well as the 2002 World Cup. From the games I saw, he’s mostly a target man who missed a lot of easy sitters. Not really impressive at all.

Before Klose broke his record we just have to think about it for a second: he got those 15 goals in 3 world cups while on the last one in 2006 he was already on a poor form. I think he is the only player who actually scored 8 goals on a World Cup after a heavy 2 years rehabilitation from an injury. For comparison Klose needed 4 tournaments while Messi and Cristiano are not even close to both of them. I mean, I don't know another football player to be called "The phenomenon".

The problem is ordinary striker never outdribbles the whole team of Boca Juniors in his 17 years old, including the goalkeeper and scores. Ordinary striker does not score 47 goals in 49 games, including few best in the history, in a top league in 20 years old. Ordinary striker does not get nice combo of 3 FIFA World Players of the year and 2 golden balls. The list goes on and on.

@@thePot_ Opinion can’t make someone a legend, you actually have to prove it using statistical evidence. If you actually followed Ronaldo’s career you’d realize he was an extremely overrated player. Despite being an out and out striker, he only managed a career goal ratio of 0.67. That’s worse than a number of forwards from his generation (Shearer, Henry, Shevchenko, Batistuta, Van Nistelrooy, Inzaghi, Del Piero & Totti). And that’s not even comparing him to the all time legends like Messi, Cristiano, Gerd Muller, Van Basten, Romario & Puskas. It’s ridiculous how he’s held in such high regard.

The greatest ever.. If you want to see the skills of Ronaldinho and Messi with the speed of Cristiano Ronaldo you have R9. I so wish I had seen him play live, TV just doesn't do justice . Together with their culture of skill-based creative improvised football and add to it endless supply of talent due to big population, year-round tropical climate, and the national passion for the game, it is easy to see why they have and keep producing great players. Lately though (since 2002), the advent of "systems" football has pooped the party for Brazil. This is their longest and most barren WC streak (only 1 semi-final between 2002-2026). But I think Brazil can be at the top again if they adopt a bit more discipline. They have always had the fantastically talented players, if they just add this discipline, they should do it again. They are always among the contenders and still the main team to fear.

When playing for Brazil he did his job perfectly. If Rivaldo was around for the 2006wc i bet Ronaldo would have score more goals and his record would never have been broken.

What a player some may say he didn't show us his true potential..World cup winner came back from a career threatening injury to become one of the greatest players to grace the game. I may be bias but as a young lad in the 90s When Ronaldo came on the scene 😳 speed power finishing

Can you explain to me what makes Ronaldo Nazario so special? Everyone says he’s the best but personally I don’t see what makes him outstanding. I always felt he was an ordinary striker who’s reputation became way overblown after scoring in the 1998 Champions League final as well as a bunch of tap ins at the World Cup. He’s not really impressive at all.

@@USMNTsoccerELITE what makes him special is that he is one of the few players that played better after then before his big knee injury, until Klose broke his record he was World Cup all - time first goalscorer, won 2 World Cups in '94 and '02 and played finals in '98 (3 consecutive WC finals), played at high level in Barca, Real, Milan, Inter, he won them all.

Simply the best player. He was all round, amazing even after spending more than 2 years nursing a knee injury, he came back and won it all in 2002

Can you explain to me what makes Ronaldo Nazario so special? Everyone says he’s the best but personally I don’t see what makes him outstanding. @@razor000999000 I saw Ronaldo play during his days with AC Milan and Corinthians, he didn’t impress me at all. I honestly don’t believe he deserves to regarded as a legendary soccer player. For me, he’s not top 100 of all time. He was overweight, slow & had no dribbling skills. I really don’t understand why he got so much hype as a once in a generation superstar. Thierry Henry was far better than him honestly.

@@USMNTsoccerELITE by the time he was playing for ac his best days were behind him due to his massive knee injuries which robbed him of his lightning pace and excellent agility and he alway struggled with his weight especially in his latter years of playing. If you'd seen in play at psv, barcelona, inter or real Madrid, he was different player, unfortunately his body couldn't keep up with his skill and ultimately his body ended up letting him down.

@@razor000999000 We need to remember that soccer wasn’t very developed during Ronaldo’s day. Now, coaches need to watch only one video and they would be able to easily stop Ronaldo from causing trouble. The defenses today are of much higher quality than in Ronaldo’s time. Ronaldo only stood out because he played in an easy era where there were not many stars. Therefore you can’t say Ronaldo was a great player, he was pure garbage. Ronaldo is actually much worse than Lukaku.

Even in 2006 he was stunning

That’s the best last World Cup any footballer can score pure master class. Ronaldo confidence in front of goal is pure genius. Already had confidence since 17years old

@@mikemoggerson6651Cristiano is the overrated player. Could never lift his teams like Ronaldo did. Nazario won titles on every club/international level and changed the game for strikers. Was an unquestionable influence on CR7. No Ronaldo; No Cristiano.

That Ronaldo goal vs Turkey is something else. That was pure genius. You wont see player like him again.

Best player ever in his prime - he shone in Serie A, which was known for being the league with the best defence at that time - his curse was his knees

Nobody was better than him. The freestyle football he played in Italy and the way he toyed with Italian defenders was insane. Messi even being the best version of Messi, wouldn’t survive that Italian football for long specially when Ronaldo and Maradona played there.

Definitely. Both him and Ronaldinho would have had the same stature, but Messi and Ronaldo brought longevity WITH consistency. Mbappe is most likely to succeed them along with Haaland but it'd require a ridiculous consistency and fitness.

If you watch his games, you’ll notice he couldn’t dribble the defense and generate attack on his own. He didn’t have any technique, ball control, agility, balance, vision or creativity.

One of the best striker. He is a legend. Upcoming players should learn from him. Zidane once mentioned that "Ronaldo is one of the best and my favourite player". He really deserves this appreciation from Zidane. Your skills and strikes will serve as a reference material to many upcoming football players.

He had so much criticism for being overweight and included in the 2006 World Cup but that's where he scored his best tournament goals. You don't need pace when you have the level of technique he has.

People who did not see Ronaldo live, will never understand how dangerous he was. Easily the greatest striker of all time.

Best player ever at his best. Nobody looks remotely like him going past players & the way he hit the ball. Very unique. Sure injuries stopped him but at his best, no one is comparable.
