For anyone interested, the manga showed more 0f their relationship, like how Naoki cared for Kotoko But sadly the author died and it was left incomplete But years later they asked the rights to animate the manga and her husband shared how his wife wanted the end story This show is my guilty pleasure I watched this when I was younger where I didn't think whether it was wrong or rightm their relationship I mean, though I didn't like Naoki This show has a special place in my heart Indeed my guilty pleasure

The husband was the producer of the Japanese live action, it was a love message to her and he wanted to make sure she knew that he always loved her. He also asked to make Naoki more flawed, imperfect and Kotoko smarter, prettier bc that's how he saw her. It's from his pov

In my opinion , their love is strange but not toxic...The manga ( expecially during their marriage) showed his great love for her . Little spoiler :he once said words like " Kotoko isn't still able to understand that I also am crazy of her " He was falled in love since first year at campus ,but he wasn't able to recognize this love. For example he dated with Matsumoto due of his jelaousy because believed that Kotoko had an affair with Sudo-Senpai ( however he exchanged this mood like wounded pride ) but once he undestood his mistake left immedately the poor Matsumoto and "dated" with Kotoko for " to be forgiven". On the manga Kotoko was at the point to ended her love for him many times, but every time he wanted to stopped her because he knew that Kotoko despite isn't very smart was very determinated (and very able to obtain what she need) . And he needed her ,he was worried everytime she disappeared (because she wanted avoid him). I don't talk about first kiss scene only. At the end of manga everyone ( and everywoman that wanted Irie without success) understand they are a true couple fallen in love.

You just proved that their relationship is toxic, otherwise im not complaining. Like it gives the anime a lil spice. It would be boring if there's no thriller + they had a baby in the end so I guess it was worth it not dropping this anime, through the girl status is low af they still managed to make this relationship work. Hands up to them.

Well, i really liked this anime when i was younger... I'm little dissapointed in Naoki now, but maybe i will give it try and read it.🤔 Just for fun or more like to know how much was Kotoko hurt.😓I had liked her and Irie's mom a lot back then.😅

as someone who had unrequited feelings for 6 years, i felt so happy for kotoko when her love was requited, more so because i know mine would never end like their happy ending haha :)

No matter what you guys think I don't think the relationship was toxic at all.... Irie never dealt with emotions before because he was always successful in every way... Jealousy and insecurity or showing his love were things he learnt to do thanks to kotoko he was not perfect but he did it for her despite being the perfect guy every perfect woman craved for he did simple things for a simple girl because he learnt to be more human. He started feeling emotions thanks to her and did not understand what he felt or how to deal with these emotions which is why he reacted negatively at times and not the way she expected him to. Having realised that he did show his emotions to her and it meant the world to her when he did. Also Irie being jealous was the best thing ever for me.... I loved how he tried to understand how and why he was feeling like this it showed that despite being handsome and the best at what he does he too can have fears of losing the one he loves and have the guts to fight for her. The way he fought for her at the university cafeteria was awesome and so so romantic. Their relationship was based on love a relationship based on love can never be toxic. I love this anime and I love Irie and I love how he becomes more human with kotoko and how kotoko gives the best of herself thanks to him.

Because they married at a young age (20) I guess and experiencing different emotions they never felt before plus the fact that both of them were still in the process of deeply knowing each other, for me it's not toxic maybe in other sense but totally they were still learning and got better in treating each other especially Naoki.

Some people make it seem like a normal relationship should be perfect, when it's not. It's full of misunderstandings, jumped conclusions, misunderstood feelings, little quarrels etc.

However they were freaking toxic af xD He wasn't just immature he bullied her quite a lot and not in a playful manner. He belittled her, invalidated her feelings (even after they were together) and made fun of her constantly - in a non-playful manner. Look I loved the show and they grew as a couple but there is no need to deny the toxicity. A relationship should never be like theirs don't tolerate such behaviour in real life (I really mean this as an advice, us girls are sometimes way too forgiving)

I don't care about people in here saying " Their relationship was tOXic". I feel like when you're immature you can be hurtful to the people you love, everyone at some point is toxic, but the beautiful thing about Itazura Na Kiss is that Kotoko's love was so fully pure that it was able to change that immature side of Naoki. People may disagree but we all at some point were toxic to others EVEN to the people we loved.

Although fiction, they fell in love & went into marriage with eyes wide open. Dating prob needs more of that kind of dedication/discovery & family support nowadays...

I always resonated with Kotoko. I had an unrequited love for 6 to 7 years. I fact I still very much love him but he loves someone else and I also confessed with a note. But, I didn't have her courage and my guy never answered the note. So when Irie finally confessed it felt so gratifying.

I really love how Irie developed from hating her into seriously loving her he learnt to appreciate and cherish her love for him

This is one of my most favorite romance anime of all time. I've watched it so many times and my heart still flutters at the "kilig scenes" and breaks on the heartbreaking ones as if its my first time! I've watched so many versions of it, read the manga and I just really loved the story!

I hated Irie in this anime, but in Mischievious kiss he was way nicer... even though the plot was basically the same, but Irie seemed more human for sure. By the end of season 2 he has become even cute to her :)

as much as they’re toxic i love this anime

When I was young, I thought getting married in 2 weeks with a grand celebration was something doable with money. Now that I am in my mid 20's... Doesn't matter how much money they have, Irie's mama cannot be underestimated. She's too powerful.

This relationship was so toxic, from the way he treated her. Ladies and gentlemen someone treating you like crap and then suddenly have a change of heart does not mean it’s ok to be treated like that. Even when they got together in the anime you could tell she was way more into him than he was her. Maybe the manga display their love better. Regardless it’s a feel good anime after the unrequited love phase go away and him finally acknowledging her.

I watched the TW version so I don't know if it applies to all the versions but - the second season was really good(after they get married). You can see both of them grow together and understand ML's POV. It was so sweet and meaningful, and the actor playing Naoki did a really good job with his microexpressions, conveying a lot of emotion with his acting more than his words, which I think is the whole point of the Naoki character. He just loves differently.

It had an adaptation in the 90's from Japan, Taiwan and Korea, this anime then the Tokyo in love... unfortunately the author died and it was not continued(I think 🤔) that's why each adaptation had different endings

i understand when people is not used to certain emotions but he was a ahole i said what i said. Even when he admitted to that he still treated her like trash especially in front of others. He doesnt deserve her periodt

Haven't read the manga, but I did watch the anime, the japanese drama, and the korean drama. I believe I loved the Korean drama the most because I felt like his character wasn't as... let's say unfeeling. I could be wrong, it's been awhile since I've watched them but I think I had issues with both of the main characters. With the FL, she was too much of a doormat when it came to him and although in the end, she did stand up for herself, it didn't last long. I'm not sure when the author passed away, but I felt it would have done some good if those two were seperated for a time and she learns when to respect herself more. Plus, if she really loved him, she would have respected his rejection. (Though he could have done it more gently.) As for him, even though he didn't have to like her, he should have sat down with her and had a proper discussion. (If she didnt back off then even with his mother's scheming, then of course he could be hostile.) I don't dislike this story but those points really got to me. Then again, as other people were saying it's probably because Naoki is a sadist and Kotoko is a masochist. 😅

Thinking of that , there's the Japanese Manga, The Japanese Drama 1996 , This Anime Version , the Kdrama Version named (Playful kiss), The Japanese Drama named (Michivious Kiss "Love in Tokyo") and There Japanese Movie named (Itazura na kiss ) and there's other versions that i forgot to mention ... so many versions for this great story 🤍

Because Playful kiss is the korean adaptation of this story. Itakiss is the original material. There are also other drama adaptations (Taiwanese, Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Indonesian)
