Dirty I'm so glad U showed the difference between focusing on the front vs back foot...it was in my mind all wrong & probably woulda been a fail...❤❤❤ ThankU

Gotta do this on Tuesdays when the rink is not packed.
Dirty, I just want to tell you again how much I appreciate your videos. Your lessons are better than anything else I’ve found online. I skated as a kid and am relearning it now. I’m enjoying practice because your videos help me get a tiny bit better each time I put on my skates. It’s fun to try to slowly add new skills. I wouldn’t even know what skills to try without your videos. I literally watch them over and over. Thank you! You’re an excellent teacher. I LOVE your humor and encouragement!!
This is so hard!! I learned this on figure skates first and transferred it over to roller skates this last summer. The speed is intense and the power you get is awesome! But its also spooky! Love the your explanation for this :)
In the art of teaching, she is a natural.
Deborah, this was amazing! I love skating backwards circles but as always, you explain another dimension that I had never considered. If you get tired of people telling you that you're gorgeous, sorry. But you really are. These tips were like the light bulb turning on in my head. Wish I had known these things sooner. Thanks!

@@Dirtydeborahharry ..Keep talking and explaining. Your "intended" AUDIENCE needs it. I wasted money and time with someone and got NOTHING! Your up/down, up/down and down with the butt, up with the gut was the PERFECT way for me to learn. I started with bubbles then added the up/down, up/down and hand placements(KEY). I'm finally comfortable going backwards (slow).
That stop she did on her toes, after that first series of cross pulls, scared the bejeezus outta me. It was perfect but I cannot wrap my mind around how to do that.
That is so much scarier with eight wheels under your feet, than on ice... Love and light from Norway!

@@mintberry3164 I'm sad to admit that I noticed some level of snobbery in figure skating communities (on Reddit, or FB, or just in comments on KZread). Same thing with Ballet communities 🤷♀️ like it happens when a person from a small village moved to a huge city and started to look down their nose at their former peers... To me, skating on four wheels was a bit scary because it felt different (even though the main technique is the same, still you can't apply your ice skills on roller skates directly. I still have no idea how to spin on roller skates! 😁) Plus falling onto the asphalt to me still seems less attractive than falling onto the ice 😆
@jlitt2917

it IS so much scarier on quad skates! i've been doing backwards crossovers forever on ice skates but it took me 10+ attempts to just TRY these on rollerskates, because every time i was about to lift the front skate, i thought i was going to die. i've noticed that rollerskaters are more fun and ice skaters (not even just the really good, almost professional ones) take themselves SO SERIOUSLY. it's like they all think they're going to be in the olympics or disney on ice or something. 🤣

@@jlitt2917 yassss! 😆 like 'how did you dare to call twizzles just 'turns'?? Did you know that there's a whole bunch of different twizzle types??" etc 🤦♀️😅 And they don't think that non-professional skaters don't even have to know those names! Can do it? Great, enjoy yourself :) And I in roller skating it's really more about having fun and enjoying your rides :) no matter whether you're doing bubbles or scissors or lemons 😆

I myself realized I can do both directions (thanks to your other videos), but my muscles really don't enjoy it when I do them in non-derby direction, my right leg just cramps up after a while.
When you break down the mechanics of something for us, IT WORKS! Thank you so much. I can watch people skate but when you tell me I need to lift my foot slightly I get it. This is stuff I don’t catch just watching people.

❤ the moves at the beginning of the video!!!
Iits dark and cold outside but im goin ton8ght for 30 minutes
Yet another fantastic tutorial, Dirty Deb! Thank you for mentioning the edges and demonstrating the inside and outside edges. One of the stranger sensations when starting to take wider inside steps before the cross-over/cross pull to get more speed and power, is the feeling of stepping inside the circle onto the inside two wheels first, then feeling all 4 wheels on the floor as the pull gets closer, and then the final push at the end of the cross pull from the outside two wheels. That "rocking" sensation from inside to flat to outside edges can feel scary -- like whether the ankle is strong enough to do that entire pull without flexing and twisting (my big fear!).
Nice video dirty deb ! This was very useful 🙂

Hello o/. You explain very well the transfer of weight from the back leg to the front leg. There is hardly any need to push. The body weight does the job. Well done for the lesson. (10:25) I remember when I started this exercise I had to work on the flexibility of the ankles. Well, I'm on inline, on frames of 306 and 303mn in UFS (without heel pad) ;b
looks like fun

Kia Ora from NZ Dirty Deb :) can you please do a vid on the difference between Derby skates and heeled skates? I used to skate in heeled boots as a teen and could do all these cool tricks. Now, 30 years later, I've decided to get back in the boots and try Derby, but man, those skates are different! Balance is a lot more precarious for a start! Can you explain why that is? And perhaps give some tips? I used to use toe stops all the time too and now I need to use t- stops and plow stops and I'm finding it hard and wondering if it's the style of boot?
