Backwards comes easier to me than forward. I just started skating again after about 15 years and that's still the case.

The more you work on core fundamentals and mechanics instead of chasing tricks, the easier it becomes to skate all ways.

I started at 67 and ended up playing roller hockey. If the rink hadn’t closed I might still be playing. Have to be content with practising on my own in a local outdoor basketball court. Have skated a couple of informal marathons too so hey get to it. You’re not too old to learn.

OMG...you ladies that have commented after this lady ALL of you just SUPER pumped me up. I'm 48 and decided to start skating. I havent skated since i was 8 years old and all i had to skate on was cracked concrete with old stainless steel wheels. i skated frontwards and thats all!...Thank you for having the courage and being an inspiration to me and others....I LOVE YOU!!

That SLOW MO shot was EVERYTHING more of that please

There’s no shortage of how-to skating videos out there but yours are hands-down the best. Very informative and practical. Keep it up!

Bruh the family in the back is super lucky they know the owners or are the owners of this building. Also, I had no idea I how i learned to backwards skate. I knew nothing about heels I just looked at others and worked on it. So many mechanics to skating, this will help when I teach others.

Yes practice mechanics instead of chasing tricks and you'll become an amazing skater. The more time you invest the better. If you skate everyday with a great pre workout body routine , balance and core exercises, then skate a few hours a day you'll be better than anyone in your city like me lol

I watched this video months ago before I got my skates and it looked and sounded like trying to understand French in cursive 😂😂 MADE NO DAMN SENSE and now that I’ve been on them for a few months and having learned this it makes so much more sense

You are awesome. I am 45 yrs old but I haven't skated since I was about 18. I started at age 4. I competed. But when I put a new pair on it felt all wrong. You have helped bring it all back and make it so much better in a fun real way! You rock DDH❤

This is exactly where I am! Stuck with the backwards scissors and the little side-to-side cha cha but focusing on the heels makes so much sense, psyched to try this out! Thank you!

I've wanted to do this too! I'm from Florida and the only rink in my area only caters to children. The owner actually told me adults aren't interested.

​@@jimbobaggans1564 I just don't get it. They tried a few adult sessions and decided there weren't enough people so that was it. Obviously they don't have a passion for skating, it's just about packing in as many kids as possible. I gotta tell ya, I went once, it was pretty awful, they were throwing up, crashing into each other, wiping out every 5 feet and the noise level was worse than any concert I have ever been to. Yikes!

@@plantifulvegan4198 Love that your vegan 😁👍 At my rink they allow stupid scooters! Sooo many accidents! No walls on the sides, so it's a free for all entrance and exit. Add scooters to the mix of that. Nightmare!

I brought some skates in March 2021 but I keep putting off going outside as I think I’m scared and lack confidence, i found your videos and you have helped rebuilt my confidence and it feels great to learn again and the feeling of unlocking different moves. Thank you for your videos and your positive energy I wouldn’t know where to begin without these videos thanks Debs x ❤️🌈

I’m now 41 and during lockdown kept seeing ppl skating online and remembered I used to love skating and questioned myself to why I stopped. I got my roller skates and its like the 3rd day and I learnt how to do a spin today!! IF I CAN DO IT YOU CAN DO IT TOO, YOU JUST NEED PRACTICE :>

I never even realized this as I learned as a young child, this is such great info you hand out !!

The UK is a difficult place to skate but I'm doing it anyway! I was on skates earlier and couldn't figure out why my backwards skating wasn't working now I see my mistake from watching the true skate goddess, thanks Deb 💚

This was just was I needed! I was having trouble visualizing how my feet should move while skating backwards. I took your advice from your wheel video and got rink wheels... I was able to maneuver scissors and small shifts much better right away... the big challenge has been understanding heel movement in skating backward. Thank you, Deborah, you read my mind! 💯

@@Dirtydeborahharry I was still struggling so I watched this video again very closely. I noticed how your skates responded smoothly when you moved your heels. Then I realized I wasn't getting a good inside edge on my heels because need to loosen my trucks a smidge more for ease of movement. 💡🤯 This is exactly why I appreciate your KZread videos... I can slow down, pause and "rewind" if I need too. Thank you again, Deborah ✌😎

I don't backward skate much because I can't transition...scared to for some reason, feel like I am going to lose my balance, right now I come to a complete stop and turn around, which im weirdly ok with but so want to go back and forth. Thank you so much for watching these videos and for your support. My nephew, Xavier, filmed all my early videos. Now he is busy being an amazing skater and overall beautiful human being. Now my skater friend Adria films and edits and bonus ... her son writes and produces the music :) I will do a video highlighting different genres of skating.

I like your c stop. That's my next practice lesson. Started skating again after 20 yr + hiatus. My legs need a break in between. The hard part is the hip movement. I skate with my feet and it's so scary to trust the other foot for cross overs

Don't worry young lady I'll be tuning in here in Australia. After 25 years I'm lacing up again still have my old Bauer99 hockey skates & you're definitely helping in some of the things I've lost in those years but I'm determined to get it back i love skating. You're really helping in my confidence again with hints that I've forgotten about i still have side & reverse gears its just getting to relax again. Anyway thanks for your tips. Kind regards Ian

this is the exact video I needed! I feel like so many backward skating videos just go over the basic backward motion without explaining any lateral movement! I've been working on this skill but hit a progress wall because I didn't quite understand how to add any other movement than straight back. 4:45 blew my mind! so excited to try this at the rink!!!
