You are thy best Greek chef in the whole world!!!!!

Baklava is Turkish dessert. You must eat Baklava in Gaziantep. If you eat in a crappy dessert shop in Istanbul, you don't like it. I invite you to Gaziantep. You'il feel the taste you never had in your life.

The origins of Baklava is in ancient Greece but was adopted by many middle , south and far eastern cultures due to the conquests of Alexander the Great and rule of the Byzantine Empire. Later, desserts such as Saragli made by Akis in this video influenced other European desserts like Strudel .
Any version of this has been the best thing ever!!!
I made this yesterday and It was sooo delicious and unbelievably easy. It tasted full of flavor. I will never buy store bought baklava again. There is no comparison. The kids and hubby loved it. Thank you Akis!!
Sometimes I don't know if I'm watching for the recipe or for Akis. Either way, I'm never disappointed. So yummy!!

@Paloukotis because turkey is in the heart of the world we sure have food from all around the world. Its nothing that really bothers me infact I am very proud of that but I really thought baklava was arabic or something? 🤔 Anyway we both have great food and I dont care for the origin.. I just enjoy😂 I would say stop the fighting and enjoy eating 😊😂

@Paloukotis so you only needed a turkish word for this sort of baklava. SARIKLI means baklava like a SARIK. Sarık is the turban of turkish imams, this baklava looks like these Turbans! You need to learn turkish to understand greek dishes!

@Fortyfour Twentytwo Comments here about who invented, starts because your first comment was "we will always fight when it comes to who invented the food". But I do like your attitude that we should just enjoy, but also it is nice to honor the history. Enjoy the food, but also why not say a thanks to those amazing Ancient Greeks who did so many things first, and then gave all of it to the rest of us to enjoy 😍🇬🇷😋
There is some debate about who invented Baklava. ... Greece invented phyllo (leaf pastry) around 300 BC. Crete (part of Greece) had a recipe "Gastrin", almost identical to modern Baklava, with layers of phyllo & nuts, baked and with honey. It was known to the Ancient Romans, and is recorded in “Deipnosofistae” Ancient Greek cookbook, 300 AD. The middle east made a "sort of" Baklava around 800 AD, however it was made with bread not pastry, so it was really a sandwich with nuts & honey. Around 1300 AD the Ottomans, through their conquests, learnt phyllo pastry.

Wrong, Turks always knew about phyllo pastry. It's called Yufka in Turkish and in other Turkic languages as well. If Ottomans learnt phyllo from Greeks, how come Turkics in Central Asia make it too?
@Noodle657

The Greek president already accepted that it’s a Turkish dessert. They all know it but still trying to get trade markers of foods from Turkish kitchen🤷♀️ ( cacik, yogurt and so on )

@@madonebo9249 I expect you know that the whole Anatolia region was Greek for 5000 years. Even after the Ottomans captured Constantinople and all the way up to 1920 the main language of the area remained Greek. So here are the options: A. If phyllo came from Anatolia any time in the last 5000 years that makes it Greek. B. Yes a similar pastry was written about in Central Asia in 1100 AD, however 1900 years before that, Homer the ancient Greek writer wrote about Baklava and phyllo pastry in 800 BC ... There were trade routes all the way to Central Asia, therefore the logical answer is Greeks invented it probably 3000 years ago, and it slowly made its way East after that ... Cheers. Hope this helps.

@@jayaline Anatolia was Greek for 5000 years? Lmao. What happened to the Hittites and Luwians? You better Study History before you talk about anything.

@@madonebo9249 Oh look a smart arse. Ok smarty pants, yes Anatolia was inhabited by many peoples since prehistoric times, however West Anatolia was Greek from 20th Century BCE. That was the relevant time period to the question of Baklava. ... Are you suggesting the Hittites or the Luwians invented Baklava? No, I expect not. Then what is you point? Obviously with your "lmao" and your childish jibes and insults, your comment was only ever intended to display that you are a smart arse, and therefore ignorant on how to behave in a discussion forum, plus I notice you have not added usefully to the debate of when and where Baklava was invented. Maybe learn to argue on point before you talk about anything, how about that smarty pants. LMAO. Also its "you'd better study history" not "you better" so maybe "you better study" grammar before you write about anything. LOL 😁

I'm just making rolled baklava from this recipe and it is baking in the oven at this moment. Can't wait to taste it :) thank you Akis
Instead of corn syrup, my friend adds honey. I will definitely try the rolled ones! Thanks
I made this exact recipe...... exceeeeeeept for... 1/2 the butter and 1/2 syrup. I misted the sheets with clarified butter and a squeeze bottle to coat in the simple syrup. After looking at several old school (like hundreds of years old) recipes I started to notice that butter wasn't used nearly as much as people seem to today. Same goes with absorbing as much flavored sugar into it as possible. Very happy with the results. This method works very well when frying the long rolls too.

Brian Bassett people who make baklava are never frying it. It’s a dessert that you bake. In many different countries similar recipes about baklava and each and every one of them is being baked! Now, you can cut down the butter and sugar for a healthier version but then you fry it? 🤔 Think about it. Not smart.
this recipe never disappoints!!

Wow makes me so happy
This thing is really amazing! Made it this evening and can't stop eating it. Already 1/3 through the whole thing all by myself. Also, I used 1/3 of the sugar in the recipe as it seemed way too much to me. And even with 1/3 portion it is still quite sweet. Used 1/2 butter as well. And I had plenty left over to dump into the pan at the end.

Normally it is Greek until the ottomans copied it! Here: Dalby speculates as to why Cato's section on bread and cakes, which he describes as "recipes in a Greek tradition", are included in De Agricultura:[33] We cannot be so sure why there is a section of recipes for bread and cakes (74-87), recipes in a Greek tradition and perhaps drawing on a Greek cookbook. Possibly Cato included them so that the owner and guests might be entertained when visiting the farm; possibly so that proper offerings might be made to the gods; more likely, I believe, so that profitable sales might be made at a neighbouring market. According to a number of scholars koptoplakous (κοπτοπλακοῦς) was a precursor of modern baklava.[19][34][35] Historian Speros Vryonis describes koptoplakous as a "Byzantine favorite" and "the same as the Turkish baklava",[36] as do other writers.[28] The name (Greek: πλατσέντα) is used today on the island of Lesbos for thin layered pastry leaves with crushed nuts, baked, and covered in syrup.[37][38]

@@hayellada-ball3836 Stop with ur ancient crap. Nobody buys it. Its very turkish just like most other "Greek Cuisine" google what "Saragli" means in Turkish. The fact is that most of these Pastry and Dishes were invented DURING the Ottoman Empire which last for 700 Years. The Turkish Kitchen in The Ottoman Empire was massive. And they invented a lot of creations that is eaten today by the entire Balkan/Turkey/Arab/Persian Nations. If Baklava was Greek, How come Turks,Bosnians,Arabs,Serbians,Persians;Kazakhs,Uzbekhs etc all eat it as their national dish? The Greeks could not spread Baklava to all those Teritorries. But the Turks could do that because they Ruled over ALL OF THEM. Even Greek names that end with "oglou" comes from Turkish names that end with "Oglu" which means "Son of". JUst sstop being delusional and start being realistic. Your countries lived under Turkish Rule 400+ Years. Ofcourse u are heavily influenced.
