Black for me👍
I thought the polar dial would be a no brainer, but for some weird reason the black looks better to me.
I know its subjective, but believe that this would be better with a 40mm case- a size which IMHO would have a broader and longer- lasting appeal. We have witnessed a huge interest in the 39mm Tudors, and can't help but think the trend for case sizes is moving downwards.
Black for me definitely…
Black is so much better

Black is much better on the wrist, good contrast steel case and black dial. Polar is too bright.
Great observation that white looks larger. Great point.
I have the newest iteration of the Polar. It's my favorite watch.
Good job on the video, last week I got both black and white dial version and I love both but the black dial is my pic.
Thanks for the review. Polar is the one for me!
Cheers mate on a great comparison video - I personally own the Polar and I love it. I already own the Explorer with a black dial so it was a no-brainer for me to get the white dial EX2. I must say, can’t go wrong with either one!! Saludos from San Antonio Texas!!
Thanks for the recent videos, I love the Explorer II content. Polar for me.

Black dial 😍
You changed my mind from black to white , great video - polar any day
The black will be worth more in the future because it’s the only explorer ii with the floating hands since the 1655

Went with the black for a more discreet look. Ideally I would prefer if most people didn’t recognize my watch
Awesome watch, the size is perfect and the white is the one for me. I guess that’s why I bought one. #loveit
Great comparative video. Loved the description of the Polar dial looking like it’s been drawn on. Like you, I think Polar’s generally the way to go, unless you’re trying to operate under the radar. It looks fantastic, is one of only two white-dialed sports models, has a bolder look (for those who want that), better captures the Explorer II’s essence and purpose visually/aesthetically, AND is the superior investment. The 226570 Polar dial pops even more than on the 216570, thanks to the anti-reflective coating on the underside of the crystal, the update text, and the enhanced Chromalight lume.
Both are beautuful, cant go wrong...
I recently bought a polar dial one. For me, it was a no-brainer. I've checked out many videos on KZread for comparison. But as soon as I checked both black and white dial in reality, the game was over. White dial and its printing and indices are so crisp and unique with beautiful contrast, you can easily fall in love with the dial itself. .42mm was the borderline size for me and the maxi case(?) style didn't help. I have 7.25 inch wrists, and it was really the limit for me. However, I cannot resist the temptation of the beauty of the dial. I suggest you definitely check this out with your own eyes before you make any decision.

I was the opposite. The white dial pictures got me on the Rolex website but as soon as I saw them both in the AD I choose the black dial. Love the watch but was hoping for a case size reduction on the 2021 release. That would be THE only 1 watch collection.

As someone with a 7.75 inch wrist the smallest watch that fits me well is a 41mm, so the 42mm is the perfect one watch for me, although I can pull off 43's. I'm glad they made them 42mm and hope they keep the size. For me, tool watches need to be bigger for quicker legibility in outdoor situations.
I have both of these exact models. Couldn't decide which i wanted more so I bought both. I will say that I do wear the black a bit more often than all my watches. (I also have a sub.). the black gets most wrist time because it is more understated and suits most of the situations i find myself in. Also I will say that though the white has better legibility that is not the case in low light. Believe it or not the black is more visible in low to no light because the lume stands out more against the flat black dial. I have worn both of these watches and i sleep in my watches so I know how they both perform in low light. Most of those who talk legibility on the polar are just taking it at face value and not in real life and may not have the black one to compare it with...great vid!
White dial all way. Thanks for the nice comparison
I like the black much more. The white just looks like it has less detail. Just one opinion.
I bought the black from a reseller. No brainer as it is much cheaper. I love it. The black hour, minute, and second hand look so much better and more elegant than the polar hour and minute hand in black. Plus, the contrast and legibility are much better in black than in polar. Light reflects and dances more on the black than the polar. I didn't want to buy from a reseller, but it's impossible to buy from AD unless you spend a nearly equivalent amount of the Rolex on another random branded watch that resells 70% less!! So paying a premium to a reseller is still chaper than buying a random watch that loses 70% of its value the moment you leave the AD store

White dial ❤🎉
Does the white dial comes with white gold markers too? They look… black coated or finished?
Explorer 2 white dial + white rubber = perfect
I have the black 16570 but I can see why one would want both.
great review on considerations. i want the attention and something different so white is it. stands out.
The polar is fine is you already have black dial rolex . To me the explo in black is more an everyday watch than the polar as more versatile.
I love these Explorer IIs. Beautiful. I think that the polar dials are more unique to Explorer IIs. When I see a black dial Rolex, my knee jerk reaction is that I compare it to a Sub. The polar dal sets it apart.
Black for me, that’s why I bought one. Don’t get why people prefer the white, to me it’s insipid. White dial, white markers? Black has nicer contrast, black dial with white markers and the gmt hand pops on the black
I have owned both sizes and I prefer the newer polar model. I paid $8000 for mine (brand new)10 years ago and still think it was great value for money.
I just recently added the black dial and I was planning on the white. For me, the black is certainly more subtle and versatile as mentioned. On the contrary, I believe the black is more legible and I looked at both in the natural light and indoor. Both are beautiful
White, white and white. And when you're done, a little more white.
Polar for the win. A real beaut. 👍🇬🇧
White
tried on the black today, and really like the contrast, its more stealthy and readable. the white is just too washed out and less legible, i like much less ""hey "look at me and my Rollie BS that the white provides. I have nothing to prove. Also, it is has much more legibility due to sheer size of dial components than my 40mm hulk sub. Also, not as bulky and chunky as my SD 43
Both are amazing but I need the white.
SEIKO 5 SBSC009 Field Sports GMT Mechanical Automatic Watch.
If they shrunk the black dial down a millimeter or two and kept the floating hands it would be perfect
White for me
my only nitpick for this model, having the newest black iteration and coming from other diving watches, I don't know if it was an aesthetic consideration but I feel the crown is pretty flat and really lacks height.
Black dial for me
Why not match the Time and Date on both ?
I have the black dial, love it. I also want the white.

Interesting video…… I purchased my Rolex Explorer in 1993 and have worn it ever since!!! I elected to go with the black face!!!!! More masculine and conservative!!!! The red 24 hour hand with the large white triangle makes it damn easy to read!!! Also the black dial goes well with a formal suit or casual clothing!!! The white dial would not!!! Bye & bye Ian Fleming (007 author) wore the original Explorer watch!!! It was his favourite watch!!!! But he gave Bond the Rolex Submariner because it was a dive watch!!!! Kind regards Ian 👨🎤🇳🇿🏉

Actually, he gave Bond the Explorer in the books. He just calls it an Oyster Perpetual at first...but in OHMSS Bond smashes it and is contemplating what to replace it with and decides another Rolex because of the big numerals at 3, 6, and 9. Only the 1016 Explorer had such at that time. The MOVIES gave Bond the Submariner.
I own the white dial
White!
Polar for me
Polar is much more unique and more Explorer by far, in fact I bought a pair of polar 216570 as gift for my twin boys
Black as it stays true to the original Steve McQueen…….
Polar dial all the way!
White!!!
The White dial looks "cartoonish" I prefer the Black 226570, don't like the floating hands on the Black 216570.

“Floating” hands on the black, not on the white.
