I have had this mic for over a year and until I watched this video, I didn’t know how to use it properly. Thank you for explaining the mic features so well, giving clear scenarios when to use cut filter, presence boost and padding.

@@AudioforContentCreators hi great video got a deeper understanding on how to use this, do you have any tips as to how to avoid recording chicken, passing vehicles and playings kids sound i get to record them even when they are blocks away. for context i try to make asmr cooking video all the windows and doors are closed, my setup is sony a6400+video mic ntg plugged using the default cable, (gain knob on 13, camera gain on 1) i get a lot of hiss or white noise too, so i had to heavily rely on noise reduction in post production with adobe PR, hope you can help me maybe im using the mic and my setup wrong?
Absolutely fantastic review. The way you introduced all the different functions was awesome. Thank you
This is absolutely the best review I have seen for this mic. Very well done!
Great review of this product mate - really appreciated you taking the time to do the frequency cut demo's and off axis rejection tests.
This video deserves more views. Thank you for the effort in your detailed, yet concise review. Keep up the great work.
I only got through 3:30 and I have liked and subbed. I had me with your view on biased/unbiased reviews when something is either bought or given to you. Love that honesty and acknowledgement!
Always appreciate the honest and thorough reviews, keep up the good work!
Again, the most reliable and comprehensive test done on KZread
this video is a pure goldddd, thank you so much
Thank You, that was an extremely useful and enjoyable experience.
I think this is the most useful and informative video on Rode Video Mic NTG review on youtube
Great review! I've owned this mic for 5 months now and have only used it a handful of times because I wasn't so happy with how my videos sounded like. I'm not very technical and idk anything about sounds, I just know a good sound when I hear it. This video is really great was very helpful ,and now I have a better understanding on how I should set it up when I use it the next time. Now my viewers can expect better sounding voice overs.
hands down best video ever for this mic! thank you! i had no idea what the features did and now I'm all set!

We all really appreciate the amount of depth and detail you put into this review! Bought this microphone yesterday and the quick start guide is simply not enough information on how to fully use all of its features.
Just got this mic. What a great informational video! Thank you kindly🍻
Such a thorough and detailed review complete with guitar solo! Love it :D
Thank you. This was a suburb combination of a detailed review combined with practical advice. Subscribed.
Dude, you're a freakin rockstar. I'm learning so much with your videos and you teach everything in such a clear way that I can understand. Since I'm new to audio, this is helping me out so much. Thanks Brother
I love this! Thank you for such a detailed review.
This review is amazing. You are truly a content creation pro!
Just installed, with the purpose of using it for webinars & YT live shows (talking head but needs some space for showing books/albums - one of the reasons I didn't like and want a lavalier mic). Works well! Paired with RODE PSA-1 (which is not intended, nor designed for pairing due to low weight and other reasons) but it gave me exactly what I wanted: clear shot, with mic being invisible just above my head. 100% happy.
Really good review! Thank you, I learn much about my own mic better than the brochure that followed ☺️
very well done man. one of the best videos ive ever seen and I know NOTHING about audio. Thanks for teaching me about the product i just bought.

Thank you for a great video, no fat, just valuable information. Keep up the good work Brian. 🙏🏻
I have watched a lot of reviews about this microphone and yours is the best by far. A very clear review and the way you used the microphone throughout made a lot of difference. I am a stills photographer and like to make tutorials for my students, the USB connection will make it easy to go straight to the computer. Thanks for the review the detail you went into was just right👍

Thank you so much! this was super helpful and straight to the point!
Video is so good I went to press the like button and found out that I had already liked it in the past. You are right about reviewers' bias when the item is free vs paid for. I had the same argument with another youtuber before. Bias free is almost impossible.
Solid review, Brian, thank you!
Awesome video! this was incredibly helpful.
I ordered one of these today. It works great for vlogging and content creation, but the ability to use it directly as a USB mic is amazing! With this + the EOS WebCam utility, you've got amazing on-the-go video chatting capabilities, without the need to lug anything else around! Add a CamLink to that, and you've got a top notch streaming setup!

Great review and demonstrations! And, dude, I love this mic! I actually just had it delivered yesterday and it picks up 2 people talking perfectly (and it didn't pick up the noise from my ceiling fan, which is a must because my studio tends to get a bit warm!). Now, the one MISTAKE I made last night in the interview I was doing was that I didn't double-check that the mic was on. Typically, the mic automatically turns on once it's plugged in. However, this doesn't happen about 90% of the time. Last night, the soundcheck went great! But once I plugged the mic back in after listening to your test, the mic didn't turn on. So...(ugh!!) an hour and a half interview was completely gone! Talk about heart-broken (I was interviewing the drummer for Siren, which has recently been resurrected from the 80s). Fortunately, he's agreed to do another one, which I will this time double-check everything and will also have a backup source going! Next, I'll also be testing this for my guitar videos. I've always wanted to get a mic like this to be able to record tutorials while talking and playing back and forth. My lavalier mic just doesn't work well for that. So for years I've been recording my guitar direct and syncing the audio/video, but that is time-consuming. BTW, nice Jackson!

Awesome, except for missing the interview!
I know this video is old, but I'm glad you did a deep dive into every feature, as that's what I was looking for! I've been using the original VideoMic for years and it has never failed me, however, having to remember to have 9v batteries before every single shoot gets annoying and these days, super expensive. This is the main reason for getting the NTG with its rechargeable battery. I also wanted a smaller mic and didn't realize how much smaller this was than the original VideoMic, so that was a pleasant surprise. Also I love my DR-10L and the dual recording, so finding out that the NTG also has this is incredibly useful.
Best Rode NTG review I have seen so far.
finally a quality review with details!
That was so honest of you...no hiding behind trees. Admire you for that.
Thank you for this indepth review...brilliantly done.
Hey! This was really helpful. I learned a lot and while I was watching my brand new RODE VM NTG got fully charged. Sweet. Thanks 🙏

You are the best. No one say about -6db in safety Chanel. Only you!😊 I tried to find it even on Rode instructions ..

So I've travelled for 6 years straight and just filmed along the way with a Gopro but hardly even looked at the footage because I travelled without a computer. Now because of Covid I went back home to my parents and it was the start of a long cold winter and I thought I have to do something with my footage and started a KZread channel... So basically I edit little travel/diving/spearfishing/ adventure videos and am using all my old Gopro footage for this, but the audio is so horrible that I bought a good Mic to do some voice overs. Another couple of months and I will have gotten through all of these older videos and in the meantime I started filming and documenting my life with a better camera to keep putting out better quality in the near future, just so much footage to go through and edit for the moment :D
Everything that I could have expected very good
Sold! After looking at your review of the microphone, I’m confident as a serious upcoming content creator, this microphone beats all the other competitors at the moment. I’m gonna go ahead and place the order this week. Thanks again for a solid review!

Great review! Thanks! Very helpful:)
Brilliant review - thanks.
Best review so far for this mic. I want to capture voice and ambient sound (noisy streets and things like that) with a camera and a phone and you explained clearly that it might not be the ideal mic for that. It's a beautiful piece of tech though. I like the features. I have a descent USB mic to record voice and play online games, it has a 0 latency monitoring output but like this Rode, there's no way to control the headset output volume directly on the mic, and doing it in Windows causes some problems. I don't even know if there are some mics able to do that.
Thanks for this. I definitely made the right purchase buying this mic.
Great video, thanks for the info, I just bought one and I am learning to use it for content creation

I just bought this mic and found your video to be very helpful for its use. For me, it will be used while in the field or woods. I'm looking forward to testing the mic's ability to reduce wind noise using the 150 high-pass filter in conjunction with the wind screen. I think it's a bonus that it's highly directional, but we'll see how well it picks up nature's ambient sounds that are pleasing. Thanks for your information.
very informative and you answered all my questions ive had about it and couldn't find this information anywhere else on YT! You got my sub

Fantastic! Perfect one-and-done mic.
This mic saved our film when our main interior mic, an Audio Technica AT4053B, suffered terrible RF interference on a recent shoot in NYC. The interference was so bad, it made the audio of 3 locations unusable. Our on-camera Rode VideoMic NTG did not have the same issues (better design). It produced great audio and saved our film. Huge thanks to Rode.
Excellent review. Finally ordered one of these: seems like it will be great for use w/ FilmicPro, which could benefit from a mic with the gain control features of the VideoMic NTG.

Good review, Thanks.i will get this for both cam and desktop use. One thing about the non-replaceable battery .You can easily send it to Rode and ask them to do it, you don't need to dump it and get a new one, why would you even think that and not consider a simple after-service for a new battery?I am sure its an easy replacement just like most user non replaceable batteries on hundreds of other devices.

What I don’t think was mentioned in your review and has worked really well for me is the lack of rf interference from my wireless Go setup. It’s fantastic, my video mic is horrible for picking up the interference but my ntg is perfect, that alone is worth the price of entry!

What would you consider the best settings for filming fireworks? When filming I’m usually between 25-100ft away from the fireworks while they are going off. I’m trying to find the best settings to capture the true sound of the boom from the fireworks and the echo that follows. If you can help, thanks!

You'd probably want either a really quiet shotgun mic with great rejection and low self noise, like the NTG8 or MKH816, or a parabolic mic.
Ive had this mic for a year now and ive just plugged it in and recorded and only recently after doing my first vlog outside thought to myself I better look at the settings now xD
Klasse gemacht gefällt mir außerordentlich gut Best Regards from Germany LG.Pidi
