I could listen to him talk all day long. Wish I had him as a teacher...

I was fortunate in the mid 80's to have Master Classes with Rod in Nyack, NY. I was only a late teen back then. I went from Patafla-flas and the half time shuffle to touring the world. Many thanks, Rod!

Rod, watching you in the old Winger Video when you played "Premier" influenced me to switch my kit to a Lefty and I've played that way every since... it just made sense to me that everything that a banged on was closer and more accessible doing from the other way... I say it still is.... and the greatest thing of all is it keeps people off your kit because they can't play a lefty kit!!!!!

I agree with the comments that Winger was unfairly singled out for criticism of the heavy metal genre back on the early 1990s and am glad they are getting the critical re-evaluation they deserve. Among Winger's solid credentials, Rod Morganstein is a graduate of the Univ. of Miami, School of Music, and Reb Beach is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music. I saw Rod Morganstein at a drum clinic he held in Dec 1989 at my local music store. (I'm a lifelong drummer). He held an excellent clinic and was a great, down to earth guy. One of the lasting impression he made on me (and was reflected in this interview), is that the music business is very unstable, and even for a well-educated and experienced musician like Rod, the bottom can fall out from under you at any time, regardless of one's status. I know that Rod is now employed (I believe full-time) at the Berklee College of Music, which seems like a perfect place for him to pass on his education and experience to others. He also gigs with Winger, of course, as time allows, among his other musical projects. Regardless of one's status in the music business, one has to save whatever money they make and invest it properly, as it's not the most stable line of work. I always remember that clinic by Rod and he's the one and only big-name drummer I've ever been able to meet in person, as drum clinics are rare in small towns where I'm from (or even medium-sized cities where I live now). best wishes Rod, Brendan
