Rocky Raccoon 100 2023 course preview
I'm a few days out from running the Rocky Raccoon 100 trail race so I thought I would swing out to Huntsville State Park and sneak peak the course out. I've tried to include information that may be helpful to folks running the race that have never seen the course or area.

Thank you for the video
Thanks for making this. Very helpful. I am flying in from Columbus, Ohio for the 100 miler next week and havn't seen the course until your video. I guess I can expect some roots : ) Thanks!

Thanks Scott. I'll see you out on the course. Pause my watch if you see me face down out there.
Excellent video- super valuable/timely. I’ll be there to run the RR this weekend, this literally couldn’t be any more relevant or useful to me. Thanks for making it.

Glad that it could help. Good luck on your race!
I've ran the 50m (2021) and am coming back for 100. Good reminders! Not much has changed at all. The roots were mostly in sections for sure.. I didn't remember them being a problem for the 50, but I think a few ppl said something. If you run any kind of technical trails in training, this should be a breeze. Great Event!

So true! The roots will probably bite me when fatigue settles in late night. I'm good for at least one header. See you on the course.

safe travels to Huntsville. I'll see you out on the course.
Even with the roots, it's an excellent course and with aid stations you have to see to believe. It's a shame that area will have received so much rain in this last week before the race.
This was helpful, thank you! I am one of those flying in for this race. Of the loop, how much would you say is very rooted? Like parts that you showed of Dogwood had a good number of roots (not like Hurt 100 or anything but certainly you need to pay attention and hop around so you don't face plant!). I'm thinking about shoes and which to go with. In your video, those roots seem to be the only bit that looks kinda technical. For reference I'm used to rocky trails vs rooted (southern california - our mountains are sandy, rutted, and/or rocky. Both loose and immovable 😂)

I would not say the trail really technical at all. It just has just the right amount of roots to keep you honest. Just pointing that out because a lot of people assume that it is a flat track course which its not.
