Rockin' MIX4 100/90 Frames Review | Big Wheel Inline Skating

Спорт

I have had my eye on the ever evolving "wizard" frame market for quite some time now. The second I saw these new Rockin' Frames MIX4 100/90 mixed wheel frames I knew I had to check them out. The question is, will I enjoy these more than the 4x100 rockered frame? Find out in this episode of T+R!
Huge thanks to @rockinframes

Always felt Rockin frames were ugly especially when you see them mounted with that janky looking adaptor, but these look ok I think they actually suit 165 mount boots.

Great review! The "personal" cons you're speaking about here and in the "Endless 90" review, where you feel that the rockered frame length (276mm) feels a little bit too short helps me a lot moving towards a slightly longer frame. But I'm still in doubt between this configuration (Mix4) and a 4x100. Maybe a rockered 4x100 gives an additional stability that might benefit someone like me who's been skating for almost a year now and wants to try more things, but doesn't feel stable enough on the current 4x80 (243mm) frame. What do you think?

I can imagine this frame is slightly faster and slightly more stable than a 4x90, seems like a good compromise for people with access to fitting wheels. What I am looking for is something more "wizardy" with ultra low ride height. It seems that most 5-wheel frames have a higher ride height because of the mounting point, maybe trinity mounting is the solution...

I think rotating the wheels for even wear will be complicated. You can flip each wheel around for profile balancing, but how to rotate for 4 wheel balancing for wear? It's a cool idea and glad that they're thinking "outside the box"...

Very nice review. As a fairly new skater, on 80mm (243frames) i was looking for a bigger frame for cruising/jumps/tricks/urban. As my Bootsize is Eu43 , chosing a new frame made me doubt to go 90 or 100 , but these look indeed like best of both worlds for someone like me who wants to try a bit of everything and never can make up their mind :p Guess i'll pick these over the Endless 90 which are maybe not a big enough change compared to my 80's...

@@TheACR10 i've been using these for almost a year now. I really like them. They don't feel to high, wheels are still ok, and roll good for everything i've been doing. And our roads are really bad sometimes. We do cruising in town, 20 km's, we sometimes go try do 'wizardstuff' but i have not yet succeeded on that haha. And we did even a 45km track... All smooth. My friend tested a lot of frames / wheels (i lost count 😂) and also endless 90. 100, and 110. He loved 110 for our cruising, but 90 is a lot more agile. But he kept switching and couldn't decide for a long time. So these 90/100 is still the perfect in between.

What would you rec for Slalom/Roller Rink/Urban/Wizard for a size 11 (43/44 EU, 28.5-29cm space included) foot? I'm new and don't want to feel unstable on a short wheelbase, or too slow/rough out in the streets, but I do want to be able to get up on my toes and heels good so I can learn the Slalom dance move stuff. I also generally have wide feet and shallow pockets.

Another question ... I can't see any review of Iqon frames here. Is there any reason for that? What do you think about the fact Iqon Decode Pro frames gives also the ability to mount a H-block? Do you think a 100-84-H-84-100 would be ok for getting started in aggressive skating? Or would it be better to go with an aggressive inline skate? Cheers!

so, the centering of the MIX4 on the Twister boot is ok? i did not fit in the original twister edges, but i'm inclined to test the XTs. looks like the frames fit without any modification and are centered correctly? bought these frames after watching this one and a couple more videos on them and i have to say, i've skated the endless 90, 100, wizard NR90/NR100 and these are the sweetspot for me. fast, yet maneuverable. the wheelbase is perfect for my 275cm feet, not too short, not too long, just perfect. ride height like 90s, speed like 100s.

Great video and great skating. Thinking about these vs the Endless 90 for my first rockered frames for Wizard moves and general skating. I'm currently on 4x80 243mm worn to a natural rocker. Could you tell me what your boot size is? Sounds like Endless 90 frame is kinda like a perfected stock 4x80 flat setup. Maneuverable but fast and more stable. Whereas for Wizard specific skating, some of the longer options would be better. Is that fair?

Great overview and breakdown! The thing that keeps me from trying a mixed wheel size frame is that you’re forced to keep wheel positions for rotation. This means the rocker will become more pronounced over time. I personally prefer trying to maintain the original rocker on a pre-rockered frame by changing positions. I love the minimal rocker of wizard style frames and try to keep it minimal for the entire life of the wheels.

so i've put a couple hundred kilometers on these at this point and i can tell you, if anything, it is the opposite of what you're saying. i was also concerned about uneven wheel wear and the inability to rotate wheels properly, but the wheels get worn pretty evenly. the 90s get worn a tiny bit faster. i've rotated the wheels every 2-3 sessions, rotating the front/back wheels and also the two inner wheel interchangeably and just eyeballing it, because i tend to soul slide and brake with my left foot predominantly. the rocker is still there and it's not more pronounced, it's a bit less pronounced, if anything. rich hayter has also posted his completely shredded wheels AND i was approached by jevgeny from rockin' frames himself after voicing concerns about it. the conclusion so far is that the wheel wear is pretty even, by the time the 90s are worn to 80mm, the 100s are at or almost at 90mm. i'd highly encourage you to approach the rockin' frames guys, i'm sure they'd send you out a pair to check them out. i think they are a game changer for me. also, long time no upload, everything ok with you mate?

Awesome vid, Brenden! I've also been enjoying the MIX4 frame the last couple of weeks (mounted them on Twister Edge skates as well). I especially love the low ride height in combination with those 100mm wheels: it rides like a 4x100, but with the advantages of a 4x90. The MIX4 also seems to be the first frame that truly takes advantage of the 165mm mounting system - with most other 165mm frames, the distance between wheels and boot remains very large, which is not ideal for wizard skating. My own review of the MIX4 will take some time though, I'm dramatically behind schedule with editing. 😀

I’m very happy on a 243mm and often bomb around on a 215mm hockey skate, so I was expecting these to feel huge but, surprisingly, they don’t. Good review! So awesome all the new rockered setups coming out as of recent. I love the way the front and back wheel is so much closer to the boot. Makes you feel that much more connected to the wheels and looks better to boot. I just got some Wizard Advanced frames and the smaller inner wheels really does help with all the swively moves of wizard skating. I'm hesitant to bomb hills in them, but haven't had any scary wobbly moments yet I think due to the 100mm front and back. Leon and the crew are onto something with the banana rocker Hi-Lo-Lo-Lo-Hi and for sure is the most buttery/wizardy type frame yet. Just how tight the 80mm full radius wheels can swivel makes the frame feel like it's floating.

I agree this is one of my main points of interest for this frame. Theoretically should be just as low as a 90mm frame as the middle two wheels are the ones that will interact with mounting bolts, but with some of the benefits of the 100s too, and with outside wheels closer to your foot for toe/heel rolls. Really might have to snag a pair.

@@ThirtyandRollin I would also be interested in a follow-up review. I think the rocker will likely fade over time. The middle wheels are 90 mm and touch the ground more, whereas the 100 mm "roll less" compared to the middle ones and touch the ground less. So the wear and tear of the middle ones should be greater. However, the wheels should only differ in radius, if they come from different brands and have different urethane/hardness, it becomes unpredictable how the rocker will develop...
