Thank you for this great video. I'm slowly learning to identify the rocks I find but sure get confused by those mixes! Sometimes it's nice to simply enjoy the beauty of them. I'm fascinated by the slab formations. I've got a slab of deep green jasper in my tumbler now. Can't wait to see it all shined up. Thanks again, Nate

The appreciation for each stone just as it is, regardless of its title, is the detail. at least for me. identification is good for sharing knowledge, but for personal understanding all it takes, is time, to pause, and see. thank you ; )

Muito bom agente vai aprendendo cada x mais .
Good to see you are alright Nate. I'm liking the new format with the classification. I'm thinking the ones you are calling Andesite, are actually Serpentine. The green ones, I'm pretty sure, are Chert. Whatever they are, their beauty is all that truly matters. Thanks for bringing me along. Im heading out to Guadalupe Creek in San Jose today. You've inspired me to get of my duff and live a little. Thank you.
@QuestForDetails
4 жыл бұрын
yes I think they are probably just super pure serpentine, that was my original guess and the community input seems to back it up so from now on it will be referred to as such, thanks for helping, and happy hunting !

Wow, after not seeing any posts since the recent fires, I started getting really worried about you. Just this morning I was searching Google for your area and Napa County to see what fire news I could find. Not sure I was right but I concluded your fire was part of the Kincade fire?, which was huge. I watched some KZread vids on it and just got more worried, so I stopped. Anyway, glad to see you back! Missed you! Another nicely made vid, enjoyed it. Hope all is well with you. Peace!

Glad to see you back Nate we have missed your videos
Recently came across your channel and it helps this new rockhounder here in New Mexoco.
If it's waxy, hard to scratch and passes heat/cold test, then its more than likely jade. The only way to really know is to do a density test.

those moments of metamorphisis captured in a single rock
Your back! I was a bit worried with that intro, thought I'd accidentally started watching the latest "Survivor" and then it rolled into what I thought was the Pilot for a new Stephen King Movie 🤣 but you didn't disappoint Nate👍
@QuestForDetails
4 жыл бұрын
" And the Gunslinger Followed " it is a Stephen king novel , or might be, you never can tell he's tricky, on to the tower ! thanks for coming along !!
Agates are a mystery. I subscribe to the idea of hot and cold silicates. Opal and chert are probably replacements formed in cold processes. Agate seems like a hot pressured replacement. It's all quartz with impurities. Like water, quartz absorbs everything. Add some manganese (or magnesium?) and it becomes amethyst. Add iron, it's jasper.
I really did enjoy this video! The landscape rocks were stunning! This gives me a little more knowledge on what to look for when i'm out and about. I really do enjoy your videos and that it's a family affair. My spots are The High Desert area in So Cal and The Puget Sound on the west side, Washinton State. There are wonderful ocean agates in Washinton.
Hey, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. This is my first video of yours, now am a new subscriber. The knowledge, music and the tone with which you speak all works. I found your channel while looking for meteor video's. I live in Martinez, East Bay area. I am a rock hound. Happy hunting!!! Thank you much.

I think so too.
Yay! Happy to see you back🤗 This video rocked! I'm pretty sure I know what a couple of those stones were. 10:07- arfvedsonite in feldspar. It could be hornblende but I'm pretty positive it's the first And 18:20 I think is a variolite. I find a lot of those up here and pick them up everytime they're so cool. For the greenies... I think I see a lot of serpentine. But I would scratch it with a piece of quartz or steel knife because andesite is Mohs 7 and won't scratch. Serpentine and even jade will. Worth a try ? Beautiful nonetheless. Thanks again Nate😎🏞

@@angelahighwolf I don't, think so🙁 All I know about merlinite is that it's a dendritic agate or dendritic opal. And some beautiful gabbro called mystic merlinite that I believe comes from a certain location but can't remember exactly where😎

Lovin your channel, giving me a new take on the jaspers I've loved my whole life, but have not been near any volcanoes to get out and hunt, living in Iowa makes it hard to find jasper, only really good hunting are the Keokuk Geodes in Southeast Iowa- A paradise for geode collecting. Thanks for taking the time to share your adventures.

The stone at 9:36, could that be inclusions of black tourmaline?
@QuestForDetails

I overlooked the possibility, but that has bene suggested several times now, and looking at it , yes, it might be just very " over cooked" it has good properties, and good timing, if it is ; )

@@QuestForDetails I thank you, your videos make me go back more than 30 years in time, when I was a solder in the Iraqi army during the Iraqi-Iranian war, I was deployed in an air base in the desert western Iraq, there I discovered a lot of shell fossils and many crystals and geodes, big ones about the size of a soccer ball, very heavy, I collected 24 pcs, I broke one and inside was very clear transparent crystals, the other couldn't break, but in a construction lab we cut one and the inside was ball like minerals, well, thank you again, I love your videos
