It's not recommended to tumble different types of stones together due to the vastly different levels of mohs hardness. For example if you tumble corundum like those rubies you tossed in they will abrade the softer stones badly while the rubies will take a lower level of polish. By the final polish the harder stones will continue scratching the softer stones and the polish won't be consistent. Great video quality otherwise and happy rockhounding.

The rocks have a harder time chipping when they are more polished. But with non polished rocks and/or gems they can chip way easier. So it makes sense to be more careful with them at the beginning then a little less careful when they are polished. Plus when he pours them into the strainer it’s like 2 inches away which won’t chip the rocks

Back in the 1970's when I was in middle school, I got a small rock tumbler for Christmas. It ran continuously day and night for weeks in my bedroom. I changed the grinding medium and water every week or so. It was a long process but it worked. I only used it the one time period. The rocks came with the grinder and I never tried it again after that. I guess at the time it was too expensive to keep doing it, or maybe too drawn-out of a process, or whatever. And I never knew what to do with the rocks afterwards, other than look at them. There were little mounts included for jewelry, but I didn't care about any of that. But, it was pretty cool at the same time.

As a Jewellery designer, just passing on some info, you really shouldn't tumble different stones... by doing it that way you will reduce some of the softer stones to beads as they are slammed into the denser stones.

Well it really depends on what you want to achieve. If you are doing it for a hobby and you dont care about the sizez, do as you will, but yeah if you are attempting to use them for making jewelry or trying to make a profit, tumbling similar hardness stones is probably a good idea.

This is like everyone's first tumble. We mix all of them together and think the whole process is going to take a month. Then we start tumbling and we realize it's going to take months to have perfectly polished rocks. I gave up rock tumbling after it took 8 months to polish my first batch. Not to mention the amount of rocks that totally disappear.

Outstanding. I have four, 3lbs tumblers. I want the 15lbs tumbler cause many say they polish much faster than the smaller tumblers. I start my first batch 6 weeks ago and I’m still on the first stage. Before moving to the 2nd stage iim spending more time on the first stage, cause those with more experience say spend more time on 1st stage and you’ll be much happier with the end results. Clearly yours are amazing. Absolutely beautiful end results.

You SERIOUSLY think tumbling is less AGGRESSIVE?? Crystal ores aggressive enough to literally RESHAPE the entire rock, are you being serious?? Man oh man.
