Rocker Review: Jazicality "This Way"
Музыка
For today's "random local band," I take a look at a song by my friend Jaz, who has all the makings of a pro, but might need to put her lyrics on her website. ;)

Hey Bryce! Thank you so much for reviewing my song! I had so much fun watching this and definitely appreciate the tip about making the lyrics easier to find. I put them on genius and will be double checking everything because I saw a typo lol. Also for this song I can’t remember exactly how many layers I did but I always start out by labeling everything now. It has helped me tremendously with organizing tracks. I’ll start with a foundation of labeling the harmonies as high, mid, and low because that’s typically what I’ll use. As I get more ideas that should be placed in the same space with the same label I’ll add more tracks and it’s so fun and gives me peace of mind knowing I won’t have to go back and try to figure out what I sang where and where it will fit in the categories. I haven’t listened to Desa much but I will definitely check her out. Also the head turn at “hospital table” took me out 🤣 Thank you for this!

For whatever it’s worth, Taylor Swift doesn’t even have her lyrics on her website. I’ve never understood why people don’t do it. For every new release, I create a document that has all the lyrics in one place, so I can easily copy-paste them everywhere, and I wish more artists would do the same.

Also, I’ve seen some of your stacks videos - I can only imagine how big this song’s session must have been!

Thanks for watching!
I feel like every lady in Minnesota who raps has to contend with the Dessa comparisons at some point. In Jazicality's case, it definitely feels fitting, a lot of what I love in Dessa's music is in this song, too, but she's also definitely doing her own thing, too. Like at the end it feels... just a tiny bit gospel-y? Definitely gotta check Jaz out, since this is the first I'm hearing her, but this song is really cool.

Fair point. It’s something about the production style for me. The softness of the electronic instruments, rather than choosing harsh sounds, and the rawness of the verse vocals juxtaposed with the thick layers of chorus singing. Also, I saw Dessa twice this year, so that might have something to do with it too. 😅

@@MidnightNotion Oh for sure, yeah. Jaz is rapping and singing and doing both really well and really passionately, going from soft to more aggressive really well. The comparison isn't unfounded.
Looks like you'll have a new Metallica album to dissect soon.

In a couple hours. I have a full time job that required my attention, but I’m going to speed home in about 30 minutes to finish editing, and hoping to have it live by 9pm Central at the latest.
