You've probably heard this before but you should check out Dax - To Be a Man

It has taken me 40 years to be willing to ask God for help instead of trying to fix it for God. Lots of pain and regret in those years. I found a Celebrate Recovery and I am working through these issues with Jesus. I am now 72 hours sober which feels amazing and I am learning to trust others. My kids are out of the house too (I'm 42 and had them young), and I made a lot of the same mistakes as the mom in this video. This video dropped the same second the album did, and I was SO excited...then by 15 seconds into this video I was a sobbing mess for a couple of days, if I'm honest. I've been trying to watch more reactions to this song to "get used to it", so to speak, because it is such a beautiful song and sounds really good...alas, I'm not there yet because I've used 4 tissues in the time it took me to type this comment!

This song makes me cry almost every time. It is a great song but very emotional. Thank you for being honest about what you are going thru. I have not hit that point where my boys have all grown up and left the house, but it terrifies me to be in that same place you are in, with an empty nest. There is a song by Bebo Norman called The Middle that I believe was written for parents in that exact stage of life. It too is a wonderful song if you are interested.

Your eyes throughout the reaction told a story I have to believe we all felt watching this. This song is my conviction to raise my kids without passing the burden's of my childhood on to them.

Bro I literally went through this as a kid. Dad and mom arguing dad getting physical with mom, mom drinking or using substances to numb the pain; I in turn experienced the same as an adult substance abuse ect. I'm so ashamed of myself my 4 year old daughter had to experience over the weekend before the current weekend ending; the trauma I endured (I did not get physical with her mom) as a child. her mom and i were so nasty to each other.

I feel ya man. We are prob about the same age. Try to enjoy the ups and downs and the journey.

Each one of us has purpose, God gave each what we need to reach those we touch in are walk. We're all different for a reason. Let him guide you..

Men need a purpose in there life, we need to feel useful, it's in our nature, if we don't, that's where we can get depressed and struggle with self-worth. In my opinion men should never strife for being happy. Especially in the current world we live in. What we should strife for is purpose, pride and connection, if we are able to do that, a state of ''happiness'' is often a byproduct. It's totally understandable if you're getting older and not being able or needed to ''take the responsibilities''you're used to, as a good men should, that that can have a impact on your overall well being. I'm sure you are able to find new purpose and fulfillment in your life, you seem wise enough. But, you also have to be realistic that it probably won't give you the same satisfaction compared to the ''golden years'' but that does't mean it's any less of a purpose, that's mostly just our own ego's setting high standards. The possessions of this world are all temporal….that is exactly why the father in heaven never leaves you, gives you hope and purpose. The biggest problem for us is surrendering self and giving it to the Lord. Jesus never promised anything but eternity with him. This world will bring joy and sorrow. We do not quest for hear we quest for a righteous life and then an eternal one…God bless you my brother and always turn to the Lord!!..:)
