Roborock S7 - New Brush Design, Will it Scratch Your Floors?

This video talks about the new Roborock S7 with auto-empty bin and its new all rubber brush design with floating brush housing. My concern is that it will scratch floors in the same way, and for the same reasons, that the Roomba i7 and S9 do. I discuss the various elements of brush design, why hybrid brushes exist, why rubber brushes clean better and why they scratch floors.

    The answer is no, by the way. It will not scratch your floors. Not unless something gets caught in the squeegee. I have a more recent video where I tested the S7 MaxV and it didn't leave a mark on plexiglass.

    I have the Roborock s7 and noticed staight-line scratches on the wood floor. I guess these probably have more to do with the plastic "teeth" on the front of the brushes container which probably touch the floor. Not very happy to be honest with all that. Brand new wood floor has lines all over the place matching the moves of the roborock.

    Would having the Roomba vacuum carpets before vacuuming hardwood floors take care of this issue?

  • @MrRoombato

    @MrRoombato

    3 жыл бұрын

    I don't know what the issue is with the S7 precisely because I haven't tested it, all I know is that it has a rubber brush that picks up dirt and a brush housing that presses dirty plastic into the floor. Also, several subscribers have told me that it scratched their floors and one sent me photos. Regardless, it's not something that's going to be fixed by cleaning carpets first. Maybe thoroughly cleaning the housing and brush after each cleaning would mitigate it to the point where you'll never notice, but I can't be sure.

    I can't give you a definitive answer because I won't buy the thing to test it. It would be a waste of money. Because...I've had several people tell me in the comments (you can find some here) that it scratches the @#@$# out of their floors. But mostly it's the brush housing from what I understand, not the brush itself. Although at least one person reported that the brush also scratches. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

    It appears to be a bagless system, but we can't be sure at this point. I hope that the clear part is some "cyclonic" thing that lets you see the dirt swirling around but then stores it somewhere else (like a bag, or at least an opaque bagless bin). The last thing I want is a see-through dirt storage bin that shows me, every day, how nasty my house is. :)

    I honestly don’t think any of them know about this. Which is odd for me to think, because they should know. It’s kinda dumb for them not to. But if they did know, them they would know that if this were to become public knowledge, there could be some pretty serious blowback. My worst nightmare at this point is all of them going to rubber brushes and everyone just sticking their heads in the sand about the floor scratching. I have no idea how long it would take for these things to wear through the polyurethane finish of hardwood floors. Could be years. People aren’t very good at accepting and acting on future problems.

    Hi, I got s7 maxv and it even scratches my tiles (!). Reason of this is the plastic teeths which are part of the brush cover. The Neabot is my favorite robot so far...it would be the Ecovacs T8 AIVI, but its auto-empty station sucks (or fails to, rather) for pet hair and its app is buggy. So far in my experience, only robots with rubber brushes and brush housing that press firmly down scratch floors, so anything with a hybrid brush should be fine. Yes, that's what you have to do. Exactly how often, I don't know. I clean mine every few days as a matter of routine maintenance, but this still happens. I live in a rural area and I have dogs, so maybe I get more fine dirt than other people, but it doesn't take long, a couple of days of daily cleaning, to get from clean to what you see in the vid. The counterpoint to your comment, however, is, "Get a robot with hybrid brushes, and you won't have to!" And that's a valid point. Robots with self empty bins promise a mostly hands off experience, and if you have wash your brushes every day or even every other day, they fail to deliver on that promise.
