I cut the metal rods on my Roborock s4 Max. I used wire cutters, needle nose plyers and a metal file. I bought the s7 roller and it works perfectly with less noise, way less of my wife's long hair, and more proficiency. With the lack of brushes on the s7 roller I use only Turbo and Max modes on my S4 Max as more suction is now needed in the absence of the brushes. That worked perfectly for me. I would not try this if you are not comfortable with hand tools because you could break the part as the metal rods are there to help make the part more stable. For me, It worked great and I'm happy with the outcome. Warning: Do this mod at your own risk I am not responsible for what might happen. Cheers!

Thanks for the detailed writeup. My other concern is does the nee brush roller make contact with the floor (not carpet)? I could not tell with the bars holding it back.

@@jamie.andrews Hey Jamie! I'm not sure as the housing for the s4Max is definitely different than on the s7. There's a wider opening to make room for the slightly bigger standard roller (with brushes😎) on the s4Max. I know for sure it does a good job on my carpet. I'm not so sure about the hard floor that's why I increase the power to Turbo or Max. It's not perfect but it was a fun experiment and I'm happy with the result. I did have a full dirt bin after 3 or 4 cleanings. If it turns out that it's not cleaning as before I can always put the original back in. At least now, without the wires, I have a choice.

This is an interesting idea, I ended up ordering the s7 brush cover and brush from aliexpress pretty cheap to try in my s6. I am tired of cleaning dog hair out of the nylon bristles and it looks like everything is the same dimensions.

@@bugur35izmir My previous order was canceled because they didn't have any in stock. I just ordered from another seller the total was $15 for the cover and brush. Its on the slow boat from china so it will be a little while, end of march it sounds like.

wanted to buy s7 brush and install it on my s5, thanks for saving my money !

Do you know if any other brush rolls fit in the S7? This rubber one makes an awful noise when it goes over my stamped LVP floors and it’s driving me absolutely nuts. Considering returning the robot honestly. Didn’t have this issue with my T8 at all.

No other rollers fit in the S7. It is a unique design.

I have a s7 the only thing im missing is nice brush patterns on the carpet. Can older brushes also fit S7 vaccum?

Weird. Mine leaves patterns. Yea you can use the older brush, but it might not be as effective in the S7. Make sure your roller brush is actually spinning. Something might be wrong with your S7.

The old style brush roller does not fit the S7. Only the one that comes with the S7 works.

What about using a S4 brush on an S7 . I am concerned about the S7 brush scratching the floors. We have a new home with engineered wood. I have heard that the iRobot 9 has a similar brush that scratches wood floors.

The S4 brush will not physically fit in the S7.

Thanks for the nice video. I have a natural stone floor that my Roborock S7 scratches on. The four protruding parts of the brush cover touch the floor. This causes scratches on the floor. Is there a solution for this? For example, increase the distance from the bottom to the floor? hopefully you have a solution. Greetings Michel.

No unfortunately they are different.

My S7 is scratching my floor. I don't think it is the brush itself. What could cause these issues? The scratches are not deep, more like sander marks in perfect alignment with the route it takes when it is cleaning :(

@@jamie.andrews I think that could be an issue. But in normal mode, I think that the plastic tabs do not touch the floor. I think it is the back of the floating deck that touches the floor. Do you think I could attach felt pads the the places that touch the floor?

The covers can not be swapped, but as other have mentioned you could cut the metal wires.

@@jamie.andrews Thing is I'm still wondering if the new brush handles long hairs better. Cause some of the tests show it's yes, and nothers don't... I guess it depends of the lenght of the hairs used for the test... My gf having very long hairs, that's a key question to me ahah

@@jamie.andrews My main problematic is really the hairs. I'm afraid none of the roborock handles it properly. I've checked Hobot ones and their design are much clever for hairs. The sucking is done before the brush roll!

What happens if u cut the metal rods?

@@theattorney6072 Can it be done? Sure. Should you? No. The roller brush design is different with the S7 brush being smaller so it will not get close to the floor on another robot. The S7 has a floating roller brush head that gets the brush roller real close to the floor.

Oh, I feel so bad for the broken brushroll! But I wouldn't replace the old ones with the rubber roller anyway. It wasn't designed to be replaceable with the others. Tho I do like the new style, mostly because it's really easy to maintain.

Yea I would not replace it either. I noticed in Reddit that several people have had their S7 brush torn up. I am not even certain when Roborock will sell replacement ones.

@@jamie.andrews The covers with the metal bars can be replaced, thus it would be intreresting to see the results if it was run with a cover where the metal bars was removed. Will it weaken the cover, but save the damage on the roll or is there any other reason for the metal bars to be there (such as guard when going over obstacles)?

They are not compatible with each robot. The brush covers are totally different.

i dont think its worth of it.. s7 brush roll is skinnier than the regular that is going to put more airflow and less seal
