I feel like most people don’t get academy awards when they’re gruesomely devoured at the end of their performance. It has something to do with politics, favored people and a specific formula in a film involving a specific actor. The academy awards is a joke. Some the best movies I’ve seen are never nominated

Robert stole the show in Jaws. Should of been nominated for an Oscar. One of the best ever on screen performances.

I believe he was drunk when he first attempted it but couldn't pull it off to anyone's satisfaction. He came back sober the next day and nailed it.

Mr. Shaw's portrayal of Quint gave the movie the character it needed.

All parts worked! The haunting music, the sheriff who ckd not swim and egghd Dregus the opposite of raw Quint. And the Indianapolis scene below decks brought the theater to the silence of a grave site!

@@billkramer2994I Agree with all you have said. What I meant was that without Quint they would have been fighting the shark from the shore the whole time and closing the beaches. Even though the shark killed Quint, he knew to end the problem you have to go kill the shark.

Like hiring the right gunfighter after amateurs all failed in the old west. One great western "the professionals" says exactly that. Who knows if Jaws wld have left the area on its own or other competant and better boat and equipmnt shark fisherman wldn't have gotten Jaws. Remember the grt Quint got eaten and Jaws was killed by land lubber sheriff!

“Here lies the body of Mary Lee, died at the age of a hundred and three. For fifteen years she kept her virginity…. Not a bad record for this vicinity” Once said, never forgotten. Shaw’s delivery was genius.

Yeah Robert is among those old school british great actors like Anthony Hopkins, Peter O'Toole, Richard Harris and Michael Caine. And they all loved drinking that scotch and have that old grandfather mentality

World class actor! The voice he gave Quint is perfect.

For years I thought he was a grizzled character actor. Only to find out he was an esteemed British actor. That’s incredible acting.

It's so sad that he never even saw the incredible success of this movie. Lots of people don't really know of the brilliance of this man. He was a wonderful novelist as well as an accomplished actor. Gone way too soon.

Well he actually did. Jaws already became the highest grossing movie ever already in 1975. He didn't pass away until August 1978. Jaws 2 was already out by then. He also was in another film based on a Peter Benchley novel in 1977 called The Deep. So he was fully around at the height of Jaws mania, and even beyond. Just saying ✌️.

​@Greggorious123 I believe it's a shame. It wasn't until the Dark Knight that comic book movies were awarded with Oscar nominations. I don't know what Schindler's List has as a movie that Jaws doesn't have. They are both movies. They are both phenomenal. They both employ actors working hard at their craft. So why are they judged as if one cannot be awarded when the other can?

Wow...seeing now who he actually is in real life....that performance becomes even more unbelievable. What a transformation...amazing.

If it's not my favorite movie scene, it's close to it. I served in the Navy for 12 years, so the scene holds a little bit more depth to me as a US Navy sailor

My dad took me and my sister to see Jaws when it was released. We were 9 and 6 years old - God knows what dad was thinking! She went out crying and I had to watch the last half on my own 💀

He was such a GREAT actor...!!! Such a class act. Miss you Shaw you were beyond a consummate professional.

Shaw was magnificently intimidating. All time great.

Jaws and the taking of Pelham 123 were Shaws best, I think. He was so great in this film. Back when film stars were like the films they were in, spectacular.

I took my girlfriend now my wife out to a Saturday night movie. We went to see the great Waldo Pepper with Robert Redford. But if you showed up at the 7 o’clock hour, you would be the test audience for a new movie. We went. we had no idea what this movie was about, no pictures, no one has seen it before. The movie started with the nighttime beach, bonfire, where the girl and the guy went off and the girl went into the water swimming. The man in front of us with his wife had to be in his 80s. He was probably there to see the great Waldo Pepper, which was a movie about old airplanes with radial engines, and 2 wings… early days of air flight that poor man could have had a heart attack the way he was reacting to the test movie. He was standing up halfway out of his seat at times. The whole audience was not moving from their seats to go to the refreshment stand or even to the bathroom. The movie was Jaws. That was in 1975 when my wife and I were dating. that evening the way we were ambushed by this movie, we were not prejudiced by anyone else’s opinion, no clue ..that was the most entertaining movie I have still ever seen in my life ever.. Nothing has topped it.

It’s wonderful, I watched this primarily due to my love for Jaws, and surprisingly the most fascinating thing in it is Shaw’s story about the uproar caused by his joke about preparing for the role of Churchill. How can people possibly be so stupid as to interpret his joke literally? It’s amazing. Thanks again.

You can see why his "Indianapolis" scene was so believable- the man is a natural raconteur with no need for a script. Such a terrific actor,. What a gas it would have been to know him...

The guy that said it was largely inaccurate.....what are you talking about? There was never a distress signal sent at all. They had just delivered the atomic bomb to Tinnian Island and they were under an order of complete radio blackout. They were sunk before the bomb had even been dropped. The Navy had no idea that anything had happened until the ship didn't show up at Pearl Harbor when it was supposed to.

i love all 3 of the main charactors in jaws but i have to say robert is my favourite out of them, he really brought depth to quint. and amazing him to see how incredibly down to earth he is here with this interview. the sort of guy you bump into at a bar and 6 hours laters your still there having a blast. true legend the only other people that i think could have done a good job playing quinnt would have been either richard harris, or terrence stamp. you would need presence and a great voice.

Drefus said after torturous delays etc "Jaws will be a bust!" I watched it in a coll town Ann Arbor, Mich and the lines were around the block and you cld hear the screams OUTSIDE in line w all the doors closed! The look in the eyes of the movie goers as they busted out of the doors was stunning of OMG what did I just see! The shark music when it came on its silent run will haunt me forever as will the opening scene!

When filming jaws Dreyfus was relatively young in his late 20s, Allegedly they did not get along with each other perhaps Robert didn’t think he showed him enough respect and another sad thing was three years later he died of a heart attack in his beloved Ireland..

Jaws wasn't jaws without Robert Shaw as quint 😢😮. The glue of the movie. True legend and brilliant actor. So many great lines, " ten thousand dollars for me by myself , for that you get the head the tail the whole dam thing " that's a 20 footer , 25ft, three tons of him " epic lines

He played one of the greatest characters ever.

What an absolute legend.

He made the movie especially the Indianapolis EPIC

I think I love this movie so much because I'm from there and it brings me back to much simpler times growing up
