Robert Shaw should have won the Academy Award that year for his performance in Jaws. No other actor could have done the USS Indianapolis scene like he did. That scene alone was more terrifying than the actual shark scenes.

It's called talent. Those people were good at creating tension, suspense, excitement, etc. They made the audience feel they were actually experiencing the events. So far, CGI detracts from movies I've seen. It feels like viewing a video game.

I met Richard Dreyfuss at the Rhode Island Comicon last month, Nov. 2019...after waiting on line for 4 hours. He and his wife bought candy and granola bars and fruit snacks for all of us who waited on line...(he's a talker...loves to talk on and on). Now we were only supposed to get his autograph and pay for a photo op separate...but because we waited so long, they bent the rules...I took about 5 photos with him on my cell. He and his wife are so sweet and kind...I got him to autograph the inside pamphlet of my Jaws DVD too! I will never forget that day!

Are you saved? If you died tonight would you go to heaven or hell? The Gospel, which means the Good News is the news that God Almighty, the Creator came in the flesh as Jesus Christ to take away the sin of the world. The one God is a trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Son came and laid down his own life to save ours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for our redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. Although God's creation was created perfect, having no death, sickness and disease, the creation became corrupted through Adam and Eve in them disobeying God. In this rebellion the creation became fallen through the curse of sin and mankind became separated from God. This world is fallen, but God offers reconciliation to him through his provision at the cross. Ultimately God will restore his creation to perfection when he returns but those that who reject his offer of redemption will remain condemned by their sins and go to hell. John 1:1,14 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and THE WORD WAS GOD. [14] And THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH , and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. John 1:10 KJV He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

I saw "Jaws" in a drive-in theater when I was 10 years old. It scared me so badly, I didn't even like being in the deep end of a pool for years afterward. The fact that you rarely saw the shark, but usually only saw his fin, made it that much scarier.
@HoneysuckleRoseSmelledGreat

I was either 9 or 10 when I saw it with my dad at the movie theatre. Like you, I was scared in a pool as well. We lived in Texas and I just thought that a shark might be able to swim through the pipes and come up from the bottom of the deep end of the pool through the drain.

Years ago I went with my family to Disney World. While waiting to get into a show, they showed an interview with Richared Dreyfuss talking about Jaws. When he was 1st offered the part by Spielberg, he called his agent. His agent said never do a water picture, they are disasters and told Richard to turn down the part which he did. A week later Dreyfuss was having 2nd thoughts about turning down the part so he called Spielberg and asked him if the part in the shark movie was still available. Spielberg said it was so Dreyfuss took the part. Said it made his career.

Also, the reason he had second thoughts was because he had gone to see himself in a movie he had recently done, and he saw himself for the first time on the scene and literally had a total nervous breakdown believing that he was absolutely Awful hence why he went back to Steve Spielberg Filmed is called The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz (film)

Love Dreyfuss and love the stories. Hate it when loud, overbearing hosts & hostesses (so full of themselves) constantly interrupt to put their own spin on subjects, mostly to let the world know "look at me, I'm still the center of attention here." That's most annoying of all. I wish they'd just shut up and let the guest talk. They fear that if they let the room wind-down and decompress, listeners will fall asleep and "ratings" will plummet. Not so. Not true at all! Listeners don't want bells & whistles. They want meaningful (substantive) conversation. They want to listen and learn -- AND to laugh.

The fact that Bruce* didn't work most of the time is the very reason that the movie was so successful (and scary): Steven Spielberg was forced to use other methods to ratchet up the tension since he couldn't show the shark. Many many horror movies since that time have employed the same method. * In Finding Nemo, the shark is named Bruce because this is a tribute to the shark in "Jaws". And the shark in "Jaws" was named Bruce because that was the name of Steven's lawyer!

Despite some personal difficulties, Mr Dreyfuss has always been the quintessential professional. And a great storyteller.
My wife and I saw this movie together when she was pregnant with our first child who is now 47 years old. Yes, that is how old this movie is.
I love how he’s talking to the audience and not to her.

I saw "Jaws" in a drive-in theater when I was 10 years old. It scared me so badly, I didn't even like being in the deep end of a pool for years afterward. The fact that you rarely saw the shark, but usually only saw his fin, made it that much scarier.

Hate it when loud, overbearing hosts & hostesses (so full of themselves) constantly interrupt to put their own spin on subjects, mostly to let the world know "look at me, I'm still the center of attention here." all those comments and not one mention about Dreyfuss being in the movie "American Graffitti with Ron Howard and Cindy Williams. Which is also a film with a young Harrison Ford in it.

The "American Graffiti" cast included a lot of unknowns who went on to be famous. In addition to Ron, Cindy, and Harrison, there was also Kathleen Quinlan, Mackenzie Philips, and Suzanne Somers.
Thank you this was fun
JAWS - RULES !!!!! 👍
great actor.....opus
Greatest movie of all time
Robert Shaw always scared me. His eyes were like the eyes of a shark in many ways. He was a tremendous talent and gone too soon. He was the star in all his movies no matter the character he played.
Just how much coffee, sugar, and goofballs did the director give Rachael so she would do all that overwrought fake laughing?

He sounds exactly the same lol
Loved him in Mr. Holland’s Opus
Great story 😊
I popped to see the house where Robert Shaw was born in Westhoughton, Bolton. As it was during work hours for me, I parked my truck on the high street outside the Robert Shaw public house and quickly walked to have a look. It was 2am. 🤣👍
1:44 what else can you say when having a bad day LMAO

That one made me lol.
I've always found it puzzling that the biggest stars of 70's cinema never made it past the decade. Richard Dreyfus and Burt Reynolds just disappeared, they had both had occasional hits in the 80's. 90' s and onwards, gone.

Both Dreyfuss and Reynolds received Oscar nominations in the 1990s. So they didn't really disappear, but you know they are also now pretty ancient.

I'm with you on the first sentence.
Happy 70th Birthday Richard Dreyfuss
I think Jimmy Fallon would be telling Rachel to shut up and stop laughing.
