Hi everyone, This is Jan Todd who’s directing the Arnold Strongman Classic (ASC) this year with help from my good friend, Steve Slater. I’m delighted by all the responses to the new “Road to the Arnold” video released today but after reading through the early comments, I thought maybe I should clear up a couple things about the 1) The prize money at the Arnold and 2) Elephant Bar Deadlift Event. The Arnold Strongman Classic (ASC) is run by Classic Productions the organizers of the entire Arnold Sports Festival (ASF) and the other international Arnold festivals held throughout the year. Rogue is the biggest sponsor we’ve ever had in the history of the Arnold Strongman Classic but the money they give to ASF is used to support a variety of expenses related to the our strongman show and other events at the Festival. Rogue and our other sponsors this year (Reign and Midway) have NO say in what the prize money will be for the ASC. Prize money is decided by Classic Productions who also determines the prize money for the Arnold Strongman Series, pro bodybuilding, and other pro sports that are directly run by the Festival/Classic Productions. What Rogue has done to help make more funds available to the top men, however, is to establish the Rogue Record Breaker (RRB) Events so that on some events a man can make an additional $5,000 if he breaks a previous record. There will be 2 RRB events during this year’s ASC, two on Saturday afternoon beginning around 4, and there will be be a special RRB show on Sunday morning at 11 that will also be live streamed. I'm pleased to announce that three of these RRB events this year are for strongwomen. As for the Elephant Bar--the idea for the elephant bar came from my late husband, Terry Todd, who wanted to replace the Hummer Tire Deadlift because Hummer was no longer a sponsor. After Rogue became involved as a sponsor in 2014, Terry asked Bill Henniger about making a long bar to use with regular Olympic style plates that wouldn’t bend with 1000+ pounds on it, and after lots of work and testing The Rogue Elephant Bar made it to the stage of the ASC in 2016. Terry loved the bar and how it responded and understood that such a long bar would flex and prove to be harder to lift than a regular deadlift bar-but that was meant to be part of the challenge. He also understood that strongman rules permit hitching the bar and supporting it on the thighs-both of which are forbidden in powerlifting-- and so the different rules of strongmen made it logical to have a unique bar. Terry’s goal was always to have the ASC events be unlike those of other strength contests-and the Elephant Bar has allowed us to do that-and because it’s so unique it has also made it something we all talk about and remember. When it was created, Rogue agreed that the Elephant Bar would not be a bar that would be sold or given to athletes so they could train with them. Obviously, you can see in the video that Brian and Thor now train on long bars-but they had them made privately. No one has been given an Elephant Bar to help them prepare-it’s strictly reserved for the stage at the Arnold. So, remember when you watch the contest either in person in Columbus just 12 days from now (or via Rogue’s Livestream) that you can’t truly compare what the ASC men will do on the Elephant Bar-to what was done back when we lifted with Hummer tires (which let them pull from a higher position) or, what’s been done in other strongman contests on other bars including regulation Olympic bars that don’t flex as much. Those kind of comparisons don't work--they're the proverbial "apples and oranges." You also need to keep in mind that the ASC does not allow our competitors to “gear up.” Just as ASC competitors can’t use tacky to lift stones, they can't wear a deadlift suit, and they can’t use a Figure 8 strap to affix their hands to the bar. Figure 8 straps allow a lifter to hold the bar in the lowest possible position-almost in the fingertips-because the straps are sewn together and the bar won’t fall out. At the ASC our men can only use “lasso” straps (one circle with a long tail that gets wrapped around the bar) that require them to hold the bar snugly in the palm to keep the strap tight. These are significant differences. Will someone do 501 kilos this year? No one can say for sure-but I expect we'll see it tried. And to answer one other comment in the thread below, there is no rule against a man calling for it as part of the three lifts the men get in the regular contest. The guys choose their own weights during the regular DL contest; they can ask for 501K at any time. We’re just offering them a chance to pick up $50,000 if they can break that magic barrier-either inside the contest or on a 4th attempt. In closing, I want to personally thank Rogue for being such an incredible sponsor of the ASC for these past five years and, especially, for all they are doing to make the 2019 Arnold Strongman Classic another historic event. Classic Productions is dedicating the show to Terry this year--and Rogue's willingness to make sure this year's contest lives up to his legacy has been simply amazing. Hope to see you all in Columbus...Jan Todd

Tom Black he does still, he did a deadlift of 500kg on a regular competition bar which is unheard of. These guys are lifting on the elephant bar which many say is easier because you’re gradually lifting the weight off the ground instead of all at once but it’s still hard. Eddie hall record still stands

I disagree. Most American family’s live with 50k or less in a YEAR, so getting 50k for doing a heavy lift (something they do already no matter what) is already a great amount. Sports players and movie stars are way way over paid and worshipped like gods now days and it makes me sick. People need to stop with the idle worship bs.

#TEAM TRUMP it’s still ridiculous in my opinion. Of course it’s a great feat and there is no denying that, bf still imo there are a lot of people getting paid way way more then they should, especially when we have homeless vets who fought for our “freedom”, starving children and a lot of people in our country living with a yearly salary of less then 50k a year but we should pay these people millions because they can hit a ball rly far or lift a crazy amount of weight. It’s utterly ridiculous IMO.

ChallengingGravity I didn’t say the elephant bar was the same as the hummer tyre deadlift. I said, pulling 501 on an elephant bar, does not ‘break’ the 500kg lift done on a powerlifting deadlift bar with skinny plates.

megin na there is no ‘THE’ deadlift record. There are many. Raw, single ply, multi ply, strongman rules on a powerlifting deadlift bar, elephant bar, hummer tyre etc.

I love Hafthor and Brian but... I’ve seen them both in training and in comp and just there isn’t the same drive that exists deep in Eddie Hall’s DNA, men of their size should be able to do what they do... not trying to take anything away from them they are the top of top tier athletes but. But Eddie was ready to die out there, he pushes himself to some serious limits Mentally and Physically

Why won't you give the price money to record breaker like the title says. Record for elephant bar is 472 kg not 500. 50K for 501 kg is just ridiculous.
