One thing that both annoys me and has me skeptical is RJ's claim that R2 will have "hands-free" driver assist. That was said about R1. The earlier R1s even have an internal-facing IR camera for driver monitoring. Then they disabled that on existing vehicles, and removed it from later-build vehicles completely, and removed all mention of "hands free" from their website. (Humorously, they didn't remove it from their website until months after removing it from the vehicle.) So R2 will have the capability R1 was sold as "has the hardware for, will arrive soon via OTA update". This reversed claim also has me skeptical they will actually have it on R2.

Ironically, during the "reveal" for the R2 it seems as if the R3/R3X stole the show. While the R2 would suit my needs better, that R3X is really flipping cool.

Single motor small pack is less than 300. Honestly though over 2 years of DCFC growth means 270 should be fine if that’s highway. People are way too attached to range figures. We need to focus on infrastructure enough that even 200mi LFP cars are good enough.

For some people that's fine, living in Minnesota I would prefer 250miles range at 70mph and 0⁰f 300 summer should be about right for a primary vehicle much less is second vehicle territory in my book (like my Bolt EV).

Thanks for the discussion. We need to stop with the range fixation! It's more about charging speed. I'd rather charge faster and have a lighter vehicle. The other madness is the fascination with 0 to 60. This was started with Tesla to sell EV when everyone thought they were stodgey. Now it's all people talk about. The charge port location doesn't matter - the cables on superchargers are going to be retrofitted, (thank you Liv for saying that Rivian knows what they are doing!). Thanks for the discussion.

R2, R3, R3X - very nice looking designs. I'm excited. But, I've been seeing commentary about how shaky Rivian's prospects are as a company. They're not yet making the R1T & R1S at scale so they can make money, and there even seems to be concern about their profitability with the delivery van. If all that is valid, are they making their situation worse by diversifying into even more vehicles already? I hope this works out for them!

Jordan - FYI: Bury the hatchet means put your weapons away permanently; make peace. If Rivian had dropped the camp kitchen completely, they wouldn't have been burying the hatchet; not sure they'd be burying anything unless they were actively trying to make sure people forgot that it had ever been offered. Then, I'm not sure WHAT they'd be burying, but it wouldn't be a hatchet. "Dropping" or "abandoning" seem like better ways to express this idea. Just my 2 cents. Loved the whole discussion in general.

They did postpone building their Georgia factory, saving $2 billion, and are going to build R2 in their existing Illinois factory to start. That savings should give them enough financial runway to start mass production of R2 and become profitable. Then after couple quarters of profitability I figure they’ll restart the Georgia build to expand production and build the R3 there.
