I am a VinFast VF8 Plus City Edition user for the past year in California (since 3/18/2023) and I totally agree with Francie's assessments about her VF8. The only thing I want to point out is my VF8 has awesome sound system, until about 2 months ago when VinFast updated the software on my car. I hope this will be corrected on their next software update. I really appreciated Francie's courage to share her very real user experience with her VF8 Eco, which is a great public service to the general public and especially those who are not familiar with EVs.

Thanks for this in depth real use review, Francie! We picked up our VF8 Plus about a week after yours and the experience so far has been almost identical to yours, with the exception of charging as we do that at home so it’s very livable. It’s my wife’s daily driving and like you, she’s not performance-oriented so suits her very well. She actually gets nauseous in my Model 3! 😂 She loves all its comfort, features and practicality so far. If they can resolve all the software quirks, this would be a great vehicle. My biggest surprise was the very capable ADAS. It may be better than Tesla’s basic AP as I can change lanes and it automatically re-engages afterwards. We got the lease too. If they can improve the software over the next 3 years, we’ll most likely buy it out as purchase option at lease end is very attractive, nowhere near the $53k sticker all in.

One word to describe VF8 is UNBELIEVABLE after my first 350 miles in one day! I would say driving VF8 is believing. In addition to other VF8 high tech features including HUD, face recognition, 360 camera, voice control, heated and cooled seats, automatic driving seat adjustment; Vinfast ADAS and blind spot warning are quite interesting. When on a road trip, if you want the EV to take over, just hit the ADAS button when the EV reaches 60-70 miles/hour. All you can do now is to sit, relax and enjoy behind the steering wheel and touch it when asked. Vinfast ADAS is like a cruise control, but much better with advanced technology. The ADAS will center the EV between the lanes and drive you uphill, downhill, along the curve road and between other vehicles; it will stop or follow the same speed as the vehicle in front of you, does. When you try to change a lane, a bright yellow warning on either the left or right mirror will flash if a vehicle is coming up. After all the due at sign in, my $200 deposit and the old car trade-in, I paid roughly $200/month after taxes for a VF8 Eco, which is about $7/day with a 3-year lease to own contract. It's even cheaper than the price of a Big Mac meal 😁

You ARE a professional reviewer! In just a few minutes, you answered every question that a reasonable person would have. You also do great interviews and know how to seamlessly “manage” multiple guests on the same show, giving each space to comment without confusion. Many of us are in an ABSOLUTE WASTELAND for DCFC - as in: almost NONE for a population/trade area of OVER 1 Million; the BARE handful of DCFCs are locked-up after hours at dealerships, and they usually have ONE charger! Awaiting the GM adapter, which will help, a little. (We have Home Level-2, don’t travel). In southern NM/W. TX, the general population never even SEES any EV - true Unicorns, and typical local dealers don’t ask for the EV allotment -- YET. IMO, anyone who has Level-2 available and who leases/buys an EV (Even a Spring Roll), WILL NEVER GO BACK TO ICE. The difference in daily operating-costs between gas and electrons is significant. Oh, and as a life-long, now “former” (fast) M/C rider - F-U-N. 👍🏿👍🏿🙏🏻🎯

It would be an interesting topic for a few episodes, and potentially easy to find sponsors for. Biggest challenge is making sure they can return it to stock afterward, so they can't make any changes that aren't reversible. There's precious little coverage about aftermarket audio in an EV out there.

I really struggle to find a questions about the Vinfast cars, but always great to hear other owners perspective about the EV ownership. We are in third age of EV ownership. From enthusiastic age with really few cars and no public chargers, to more cars and more chargers available but still early adopters issues, and now many different cars, many chargers but still problems with confused consumers, confused manufacturers and old charging systems and different standards for charging stations and ports. The forth age will be better, with mature cars, charging operators and car manufacturers.

I had a hybrid that had at 1/2 to 1 second delay before you got full response if you flattened the peddle. This was annoying, but you learned to account for it. My current vehicle is ICE, and it takes longer to spool up in the same situation. Again, you learn to account for it. On charging, since you have over a week between charges, I assume you don't have a garage to allow Level 1 AC charging. That should be enough for a vehicle that is not driven much each day. (Also, I was surprised to find that there is only 1 CCS fast charger in Memphis. Next closest really is in Mississippi. It will be Arkansas when the Flying J gets their installation up and running across the river.)

I think it should be something configurable. For those who are coming from ICE vehicles , the delay may make sense. However if you are already an EV owner, if feels weird to have a lag on the accelerator. One thing I compare between VF8 and my MY. We have options Eco, Normal , Sport. Whereas the MY has 1 option , with additional $$$ to add the extra power to the system. Not really needed. But it is all or nothing. I prefere to have options.

Nice review!! If you lease it for a month and buy the car then the price of the car is $29k for plus model and $27k for Eco model. They are offering $13k off now on 2024 VF8 ECO. It's an option when we are on lease...if the company survives one more year and if they sell 10k vehicles atleast in the next two years. Then we will be confident in buying out the car that's

Francie, you must live in an apartment or condo stating you cannot use at least a 120-volt EVSE. I have a Tesla DMLRY, and my garage door opener stopped working with my nema 14-50 plug, so I started parking in garage with just a 120 volt plug, and I was just fine for three weeks before the opener was fixed. My friend uses a 50' HD 12 gaga extension cord for over 4 years charging his Bolt EV. Extension cords, not recommended but will work pulling 12 amps. You really must get a way to plug in at home. Great video. I'm glad to see

For a home charger, Tesla now has a combo charger (NACS & CCS). We have the Tesla Wall Charger, and have had no issues at all with it. For other options check out “State of Charge”, but for Future Proofing you should probably get one that handles both major standards, preferably natively or at least with an adapter.

if you lease the car for $250 a month then what you DON'T mention is that the avoided cost of gasoline could pay mostly if not all that would cover the lease payment thus you could be driving this car for free. Seems like no one is talking about the avoided costs of fossil fuels.

It was very interesting to hear your experience and especially your experience being dependent on public chargers in a public charging desert. In fact, I’d love a whole series of episodes with various guests all of whom live dependent on public chargers and especially those in areas with little to no charging infrastructure. Many of us live in places more similar to where you live than in places like Colorado where Kyle & co are. We don’t have a plethora of DCFCs or even level 2 infrastructure. My hometown in East Texas (population >125K) has NO DCFC within 50 miles. The only level twos are at dealerships with limited access. Tesla isn’t much better. There are Tesla level 2s at ONE upscale grocery store. The closest supercharger is 25 miles. This is the reality for much of the US. It would be great to hear the experiences of people who drive electric but who don’t have home charging or who regularly travel to/through areas with no charging infrastructure. I would love more diverse experiences included, starting with your own. And especially your experience as a woman driving an EV. How safe do you feel charging? More or less than at a gas station? (Some scary $?!\ happens at gas stations). A whole vlog on your experience as a woman EV’er would be great. In any event, keep up the good work. Love the content and I enjoy your presentation style. 👍

The aerodynamic of VF8, with more interior space, will have more air dragging that caused more cost in electricity compared to the Tesla. Also, for other EVs with AWD features and similar horse power as the VF8 would cost more. Also as I know now, the fast charging will cause the battery to be more hotter that would reduce the life span of the battery. Also with 10 years warrany, perhaps VF8 has battery warranty coverage to cover battery change near to the approaching 10 years of the car.

re charging - you didn’t mention using any public level 2 charging, including malls or shopping centers. Some of those are free, and they can supplement occasional DCFC. An extra 6% charge per hour while you are there anyways for a meal or shopping run can help and add up. It is a different mindset from “fill up then drive to empty” from the gasoline era.

My Tesla Model 3 also beeps so much it drives me crazy. Tesla is supposed to be the best EV, but it's terrible due to their poor choices in some areas. The beeps are insane, systems are constantly "degraded" in the slightest of weather (cameras degraded, speed limited, park assist degraded, etc), auto wipers are terrible, basic autopilot is terrible (my Kia's ADAS is much better). All this stuff drives me crazy and I definitely do not want to buy another Tesla.
