The DCEU dies at age ten. It began with the hope and promise of a Superman snapping a man's neck, and it ends with Jason Momoa's Aquaman being a drunken good time. In this very special ScreenCrush video, we pay tribute to the franchise that barely was.

Imagine if The Terminator started dancing at end then they combine powers like a mega zord that is somehow better than Superman actually killing the other Superman. Marvel have one thing in common is that they don’t do comic accurate stories and that’s the magic of superhero movies. In those movies we don’t already know what’s next to happen.

Yeah. I wasn't sure it was sincere at first because the rest of the segments were so tongue in cheek, but then it was obvious it was sincere and it was touching to the point of nearly bringing me to tears. I'm glad the rest were what they were, but it was nice to see this very real tribute to the movies as seen through a son honoring his father. RIP, dad.

My god. I'm weeping. Adam's tribute to his late father and the joy that the Shazam movies held within their core was deeply touching. This is what so many seem to miss about super heroes. They aren't just power fantasies and wish fulfillment. They are a belief in hope, and the child-like joy that we all can feel. Best wishes, everyone.

In my opinion the DCEU was really good. I'm 55 who grew up watching Christopher Reeve as Superman. Then when I was 21 we got Tim Burton's Batman. The DC comics, TV shows, and movies has always been my favorite. I loved Smallville, and the Arrowverse, for me they were the best super heroes shows.. I've never really cared for Marvel comics. I like some of the tv shows like The Incredible Hulk, AGENTS of Shield and some others. It really saddens me that the DCEU didn't continue. Maybe I'm just getting to old for comics and the shows and movies.

Man Of Steel was an ok movie, with a great Superman, but a complete misunderstanding of the characters. If you're going to do a deconstruction, fine. But not with the 1st in an attempted cinematic universe. Only got worse with a gun-toting murderbat, despite liking Affleck. Tonal shifts back and forth didn't help. I like the Snyder Cut ok, and some parts of other projects (WW was still the best IMO), but RIP is only accurate if it means: Rot In Purgatory. Learn the lessons WB. And Gunn. And Snyder. And Marvel. And Disney. And...

I know people have mixed feelings on Superman, but if the studio can’t understand and respect who that character is and execute that character, than there’s almost no chance this universe was going to work in the long run. The fact of the matter is that the DC universe is a spectrum of wildly different characters. There’s a lot of weird but iconic stuff in DC that can’t all be interpreted by one guy creatively. Zack Snyder got to determine the tone and creative approach of all the major characters and elements of the universe as opposed to Marvel who had a new director on each of the phase one characters and then let a new director bring them together.

I think Ryan is overlooking the themes of Man of Steel, the whole point of the scene where Clark's dad died trying to save the family dog, it was supposed to teach Clark what it means to be a real and virtuous man (put your life on the line to save others). Also, in Snyderverse, Superman and Evil Superman are just the same person but in the old Superman films, Evil Superman was a clone. And Ryan said Superman doesn't kill, but Evil Superman does. So in Man of Steel, Superman gets a taste of the dark side. Lois is the only key to keep Superman good.

Like Adam, I have a personal connection to this universe. I saw BVS in theaters by myself a couple months after getting out of rehab. I never hated the Martha scene. Bruce’s trauma began when he lost his folks, felt totally powerless. Grew up lonely and isolated until boarding school, and in this universe he tells Alfred they’ve been fighting crime for 20 years. 20 years he controlled petty criminals, extortionists, gangs, gang leaders, mafia bosses, and super villains. One day Superman fights Zod and the power and invulnerability of the kryptonians triggers his childhood trauma, the Batmobile becomes a tank and he starts branding criminals. He’s trying to cope by doing what he did for 20 years but now to the extreme. He finally is given the tools to bring down Clark. (earlier we see Lex show how the kryptonite works by holding it to Zod’s body and the cells erode) When Bruce finally has Clark down holding the kryptonite to his head scrambling his brain, Clark desperately states his mission. Bruce is shocked at that name, LL shows up and explains. Snapping Bruce out of his triggered state and seeing Clark from a rational point of view. This is perfect because trauma affects the brain by not storing the traumatic event like a memory, it sits out there waiting to be triggered unleashing the feelings of and perceptually being sent back to that traumatic event. Changing perception or accepting the event can heal a person’s trauma. Sometimes immediately. IT’S NOT A LAME SCENE… You’re still my favorite RE!

One of your best videos & loved the guests. I'm right there with you: Superman killing Zod was the Death of the DCEU, before it even got to take off. A shame and a waste of time, talent, and boundless potential. I have faith in James Gunn and hope that one day, hope itself will return soon to a universe that is beloved by so many.

As an OG Captain Marvel fan myself, I was very moved by Adam’s heartfelt segment. To me, he is the only Captain Marvel. The Big Red Cheese. I loved the comics as a kid and loved the movies so much. I hope against hope the Marvel Family will make it into Chapter 2 of the Gunnverse. I remorse the stories hinted at that we’ll probably never see.

I grew up a DC fan... and watching the DCEU has been really sad to me and I think the best thing any of you said, was that it felt like the people making these movies really didn't know the characters very well, and really did not love them. To me that is the difference between the best of the MCU and the best of the DCEU...

In the meantime I’ll just sit back and enjoy looking at his wonderful artwork.❤
