As a former swimmer and now a triathlete, i prefer swimming or triathlon. Yet the Tour is way better than the Olympics' road race.

I so wish that we will someday be able to see the entire race. And that goes for the time trial as well. I was travelling when it took place and missed the Cancellara show.

2021 during covid still reliving this 2016 Cycling.

Haha, the commenters have no clue what it is all about. Don't even recognize the riders. Very funny to watch. Go Greg!!

That day we walked from Humaita to Ipanema and saw the rollout, then we went to Lagoa and watched rowing, then back to Humaita for lunch at All Capone where we watched Volleyball, then to Copa Cabana, about 300 m from the finish. Very new to bike racin here, but why do they stay in line, especially near the end? Wouldn’t you want to fight to get first??

You don't want to fight to get to the front, you only want to fight to win in the end, and the two are mutually exclusive. It takes less energy to ride behind another guy than to lead because there is less air resistance. So the lesser riders sacrifice themselves for the better riders from their team and lead to allow their teammates to slipstream behind them. Then when the lesser riders tire out, the better ones attack, depending on the circumstances. Road racing is a very tactical sport.
