Rimac Nevera Top Speed Full Run - VBOX

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The Rimac Nevera has set a top speed of 412kph (258mph), making it the fastest electric production car in the world.
Miro Zrnčević, Rimac’s Chief Test and Development Driver: “To travel at 412kph, or 258mph, means travelling at a third of the speed of sound. Simply achieving that alone in a road car is incredibly complex, but in Nevera we have created a car that can travel long distances on a single charge, can tackle tight and twisting race tracks and can drift as well as break straight-line speed records, both for acceleration and V-MAX. I’ve driven Nevera since it first turned a wheel and to see the perfectly honed car that is today is a really emotional moment. The most important thing I have learned during the top-speed attempt is how composed and stable the car was - confirming that our aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics teams have done an amazing job.”

    At peak power of 1915 HP, the Nevera will go through its 120 kwH battery pack in 5 min 26 sec which is approximately 1% every 3 seconds, which is actually what we see here. If a Chiron made that much power (1915 HP), it would drain its fuel tank in 7 min and 3 sec instead of its usual 9 min. So for those concerned about the rate at which the charge goes down, actually the Nevera did well here. At full tilt, neither electric nor ICE is going to last long making this much power. But it seems the Nevera can't sustain 1915 HP just yet. Still more to come...

    It how electric motors work. There is no gearbox. Torque decreases linearly with RPM, so HP is constant over a certain range. As you get near the top torque drops more rapidly, and hp decreases. There is no way around this without a gearbox. Its making almost peak power between 0-200mph, so it doesn't really matter.

    Impressive topspeed for an EV. I noticed SOC drops 1% every 3 seconds. That means at that max throttle max speed, the battery will last you 5mins. If you are traveling at 258mph for 5mins, you can get 21.4 miles out of the whole battery. If I'm not mistaken, james may said a bugatti veyron will run out of fuel in 12 mins, which for a veyron to travel at 253mph for 12mins will get it to 50.5 miles. So looks like ICE still wins as far as full power and range.

  • @KyleHubb

    @KyleHubb

    Жыл бұрын

    @@skrlaviolette I'm not sure why power drops, but, I suspect it's to control heat in the battery and motors. As far as the two speed gearbox, it changed to single speed gearing for all four motors (instead of single speed gearing controlling front motors, and another single speed controlling rear). You have to follow the development of this car to see where he made the changes. Watching his interviews with Top Gear, Jonny Smith (Late Brake Show), and a few other motoring journalists will also help to fully understand the car. Originally supposed to have come out 2 years ago, but got delayed cos he wanted to absolutely make sure he trounces Elon Musk's next generation Roadster. Some difference between his carbon-sleeved motor design and Tesla's carbon-weaved design is that his rear motor RPM tops out at 17,700 (front motors at 15,000) while Tesla's top out at over 23,000 (each Plaid motor). So, it'd be great to see how Tesla responds to this. Also, there are three car manufacturers today (2 currently EV only) with 20,000 rpm "redline" motors -- Tesla (Plaid powertrain), Hyundai/Kia (GT& N powertrain), and Lucid Motors powertrain.

    I wonder why the power and torque droped @ 0:23 , it does have only single spead gearbox, so this must be a decision from the power management system?

  • @beanapprentice1687

    @beanapprentice1687

    Yea I was wondering about that too. The throttle stayed at 100%, so maybe there was a road traction issue (such as bumpiness or water)? The torque vectoring system is super responsive and would probably cut power in that situation if it detects wheel slip. Edit: well I guess I was wrong.

    Lots of control algorithms and various battery/powertrain State of Power calculations. There are hundreds of sensors in the battery, measuring all cell voltages (174) several times per second, about 100 temperature sensors, current sensors etc. Basically it is some cells coming close to the limit (voltage drop) and the control systems reacting too abruptly and then scaling back. We now have the data and will optimise the control systems which will result in higher average power and faster acceleration. Still lots of potential in the system.

    My guess is that electric motors also have some power curve, similar to IC engines. So at very high rpm, they lose a bit of their power. To avoid this, another gear would be needed
