Rihanna and Nicki Minaj producer JR Rotem on his synths | Studio Essentials
Музыка
Producer JR Rotem boasts a discography spanning entire eras of pop music - from his start making beats for Destiny’s Child’s “Survivor,” to producing smash hits like “Whatcha Say” by Jason Derulo and “Beautiful Girls” by Sean Kingston to today, where he continues to work with acts like Fall Out Boy, Charlie Puth, Panic at the Disco and more. The through-line of Rotem’s productions lies in both his classical piano training and impressive collection of synthesizers, ranging from classics like the Roland Juno, soft-synths like Omnisphere, to modern workstations like the Korg Kronos.

@@jt-mx4on J.R Rotem is acutally a real Record Producer like P-Diddy and Quincy Jones. He doesn't just only make beats hence why he said he didn't understand what producing was until later on. A Record Producer is similar to a Film Director as they physically collaborate with the Vocalist and Engineer in the studio that sees the whole thing through all the way down to the mix. They provide a musical insight and technical guidance to the Vocalist and Engineer to help get the best record as possible. That's what J.R Rotem does beyond just composing a beat. He produced the finished product known as the Master's to be delivered to the Record Company. Timbaland, Rodney Jerkins, Bryan-Michael Cox, Pharrell and Chad, Scott Storch, and, Dr. DRE, all do the exact same thing as J.R Rotem as it don't just end at the beat. They are all known as Songwriter/Producer's because they are wearing two hats as the Composer that composes the beat and traditonal Record Producer role when they are in the studio overseeing the entire production, recording, mixing and mastering.

So I find it disrespectful when beat makers call themselves producers when all they do is make loops on a crack version of fruity loops lol

Yeah? I love that sh t. The evolution of a musician/artist leading up to their preference of using a telephone, essentially, to compose their works, for even a modest % of the time they create, is just fascinating to me. Now, for you, if the two compact machines are your "current" go-to instruments, what instruments did you play/utilize most heavily while creating in the past(before you changed to the new 'instruments of choice' you currently favor in the present)?

Payton Paciotti Yeah I also think it's really cool how hit maker producers like Timbaland went from making beats on a keyboard to an IPad. For me I grew up with a Grand Piano in my house. One of my family members played REALLY well so by the time I came along it was still there for me to fool around with. I had a music teacher at my elementary school who taught us how to play the keyboard but I guess I was too young to be that interested but the foundation was there. Fast foward to my late teens I bought my first keyboard because I had been writing songs in my phone for awhile and wanted to create the right production to complement my songs. I got annoyed with the bulkiness of the keyboard as soon as I started playing it so I decided to look for and download some DAW apps on my phone and tablet (couldn't find a cheap laptop under $200 at the time). Found a few great apps that had WAY more synths and sounds than my big keyboard. Long story I know but I said all that to say I went from producing on a keyboard to producing on my phone and tablet because I found it much more conducive to my workflow in the sense of it's more convenient and comfortable for me to work with than even the laptop l have now.

J.R is one of the few Record Producer's that acutally still uses hardware. Scott Storch still uses his MPC 2000XL still to this day, Ryan Leslie is still mostly hardware. I still have all my hardware, composed of the MPC 5000, Fantom XR and my 16 year Motif ES that's still kicking but I use alot of soft synth as well. I have hybrid setup essentially. Hardware does still have an edge over software, such as convenience, reliability, and faster work flow. But there are cons such as storage and RAM capacity compared to a conventional computer.

Also fact is that very sound be it treadmill pop or iconic is created by others. Mostly from existing genres and styles that are already popular. Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones did not invent pop music out of thin air. Preference is your personal matter. Check out Rosalia, the spanish Rihana. You might like her too. Adios

@@AudioPervert1 everyone knows how rihanna sounds in my area, and due to her music's prevalence in my childhood she's become iconic to me. i know her voice isn't as strong as legends like whitney houston or freddie mercury but i could care less about the technical aspects of singing as long as an artist's voice and production is sonically pleasing enough for me to listen to. like i don't listen to travis scott because he's the best lyricist or anything (he's clearly not), his music just has a psychedelic vibe that i like and and his voice is somehow made soothing over his instrumentals.
