Ridgid 12" Dual Bevel Sliding Miter Saw Review - 70 Degree Miter Capacity

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

The Ridgid 12 in. Dual Bevel Sliding Miter Saw (R4221) was designed to do just about any job without hassle. Everything on this miter saw moves with ease and most items can stay in place while mitering and beveling. Further, the Ridgid miter saw miters 70° to the left and to the right. The cut capacity of the R4221 is incredible with a 16" cut at 90 degrees. Incorporated into the dual bevel design is crown molding stops so that you can move the saw head instead of the material.
This items that really stand out to us is the adjustable table sides that easily rotate out of the way allowing for the 70° miters on each side. The fence uppers will slide out of the way for most common crown molding cuts and only need to be removed on more drastic miter and bevel combinations. If you are into lean, this saw allows you to save time simply by its easy of movements and lack of having to remove anything from the saw.
Features
Adjustable miter and bevel detents with bypass allow for quick adjustments to the most common angles
LED cut line indication and work-light illuminates work to improve visibility and accuracy of the cut
15 Amp motor
Built-in-dust collection port works with common 1-1/4 in. wet/dry vacuum adapters
Crown stop mounting holes are compatible with common stops and available RIDGID crown molding stop (not included)
Blade brake stops blade for quicker transitions in between cuts
Positive bevel crown molding stops at the most common angles; 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 33.9° and 45° left and right
Positive miter stops at the most common angles 0°, 15°, 22.5°, 31.6°, 45°, 60° and 67.5° left and right
4,000 RPM
Price Point
When you pull this saw out of the box, it is a pretty large unit with a crazy miter capacity. The saw blade needs to be installed, but for the most part it is assembled. Going through assembly, we were still surprised at the $399.00 price point at Home Depot. That means you can pick up this 12" or the 10" or the same price. But when it comes to features, the 12" is packed with innovative ideas that simply make it one cool saw.
With this saw, and most miter saws, the blade on it could be better. It is a give and take for the price, but we really feel a good blade will help make this saw come to life. The ease of adjustments and how smooth everything moves, compliments the saw and possibly makes the slides for the saw feel a bit rough. If we could change two things on this saw it would be the blade and opt for a smoother slide for the saw head. But the slide is really not that bad and seems to work in and get smoother over time.
Realistically, this is a smoking hot deal for a 12" miter saw with some serious abilities to do just about anything you need to. We would not be hesitant to recommend it to anyone.

Attention ridgid fans, I recently communicated with ridgid about the blade wobble, the sent me a kit , which included a back washer, the was machined, a ring, and a new screw, after installing them, it seemed that it corrected the wobble, I only cut into a 2x4 a couple of cuts and worked well, even the shadow of the blade was straight. Now this might just be a plaster covering up a wound. I hope to hear from other purchasers of this model R4221

I have been a Ridgid fan for 15 years, and have a 12 inch Ridgid, but want a slider now. Unfortunately I am still seeing 2018 posts about wobble on this one. Even though I love the 70 degree swing (every miter saw should have it), way too many posts about blade wobble... is probably going to force me to buy the Dewalt.

This test is only if you want to saw with a precision miter saw. (not for rough work). Tips and Test: Very important if you would like to saw with precision. (avoid torsion as much as possible)! Always choose a Miter saw with a handle positioned in a vertical line above the saw blade. Everything must be aligned, slide rails, handle, and saw blade,it is much better this way the blade will not tilt. Because there is some torsion in the aluminum housing . And choose an engine with softstart on it to prevent wear of the gear and worm shaft. It is very important that everything is aligned. Here are some examples to show how the handle must be positioned above the blade. Bosch gcm 800 sj / Bosch gcm 8 sjl / Evolution rage 3 / FESTOOL KS 60 / Bosch GCM 8 SDE / FESTOOL KS 60 E KAPEX / Metabo KGSV 72 Xact / Bosch PCM 8 SD / Hitachi C10FSH. (This also is the case with the Miter saw without the slide rails). (If you want). You can test it yourself at home if there is torsion in the aluminum housing. Step-1. First you make a saw cut from +-5 mm deep in to a flat piece of wood about +- 20 mm thick to this with the normal handle positioned on the right side of the Miter saw (the wood it will remain in place until the test is completed). Step-2. Then repeat this by pushing the saw blade down with your hand (finger) on the aluminum protective cover were the saw blade is cased in. Just now only do this without the running engine. Step-3. Now you can see if the saw blade will be positioned in or next to the saw cut. If the saw blade is (+- 0,2 / 0,5 mm) next to the saw cut then there is torsion in the aluminum housing (test is completed). Step-4. therefor it is much better to choose a Miter saw with the handle positioned vertical in line above the saw blade. Conclusion: how further away the handle is from the saw blade how more chance of torsion in the aluminum housing.(don't go for that). Also with a cheap slide miter saw it is still better the handgriff in line a above the saw blade than on the right side. Maybe they will make it someday then we have a winner...

Ya I have heard that about that saw it's to bad. I gotta say my dream saw is that really nice Ridgid 10" miter saw, but I am sure I won't get it anytime soon cuz I have the Ryobi 10" sliding miter saw and I also have the Ridgid 18-volt brushless 7-1/4" dual bevel sliding miter saw and I love that little sucker I can pack it anywhere so easy since it only weighs 24 pounds and has a small foot print and blade for it are cheap, it's cut cut capacity is 2"x8" but for my needs and the kind of things I cut it works just fine and cuts like 95% of everything I need to cut, I really like it the dual bevel is nice and I like the shadow line plus I have mine adjusted perfect so my cuts always come out precise, I actually just picked up a 7-1/4" miter saw specific blade for it and it's the only one I have ever see that's specifically designed for a miter saw, it's a Dewalt blade and I am sure they made it to go with their 7-1/4" miter saw so I picked it up and threw it on today and man it works great best blade I have used on my Ridgid miter saw, it's not a Dewalt cheap line saw blade either it is one of their top of the line black and yellow series blade which I would say is definitely as good as a Diablo blade maybe even better!

So I was trying to figure out how bad my blade wobble was, watching the edge of the blade as its spinning. Just not seeing much because its spinning so fast, was thinking maybe it was in my head since I read all the bad reviews my mind was looking for a problem that might not exist. So I put a 2x4 under the blade and lowered it to cut and I saw the blade shadow on the wood. That shadow would shudder and swaying side to side. It was pretty noticeable then. That shadow was moving between 2 points at least 1/8". Someone above commented that you can hear the motor and blade wobble at the start of the video here. My saw definitely sounds rough like that. I can feel it through the handle too.

Did you guys notice any excessive blade wobble? I just purchased this saw and the blade or arbor seems so out of alignment it's scary. I'm a pro GC and am very familiar with just about any tool and this one is rough. I hope it's a defect but others have complained of similar issues. It's not really a lateral blade deflection that you get with a lot of cheap saws - it's almost as if the arbor or blade is not centered causing the blade to spin like a parabola, not a true circle if that makes sense. The blade actually jumps when it first makes contact with stock wood because each tooth is hitting the piece slightly different than the other. Please let me know if anyone has had this happen. Thanks guys!

Very disappointing saw. It looks good and has all the features you could ask for. However it cuts like shit. There is a weird intermittent vibration that causes about 1/16th of an inch blade deflection. It’s almost like the electric brake kicks on when it shouldn’t. I bought 2 and returned them both.
