Ridgid 12in Sliding Miter Saw: Setup & Review - BUYER BEWARE

Ridgid 12in Sliding Miter Saw - Blade Wobble Nightmares
#ridgid #mitersaw #toolreview #powertools #buyerbeware
Defective Model Numbers I Purchased - 1826 and 1831.
In this video we purchased a Ridgid 12in Dual Bevel, Sliding Miter Saw (Not the Non-Sliding Version), and we had the worst luck ever! Ended up buying 2 of these saws, and both of which turned out to be lemons. No help from Ridgid directly or Home Depot - and after some internet searching the bad reviews are RAMPANT. Blade Wobble, Vibration, Horrible Dust Management, just thing after thing. I was 'Brand Blind' because I have about 20 other Ridgid tools - so I skipped reading reviews when I bought this. I documented my ENTIRE process from unboxing all the way through testing the 2nd saw for wobble and vibration - and I tried to spare you most of the boring steps. I do cover the full unbox and setup, as there are some people out there that do want to buy this saw, and that have bought this saw with NO problems whatsoever. I hope this review helps you to make your decision on what saw to buy!!!!

Just picked up saw and stand combo as a combo purchase and just put it together today in prep for some trim work on a house we are remodeling. I checked with Home Depot and they assured me these were the new models and did not have the issues with blade wobble the R4221 models had. First cut seemed ok, but upon longer cuts, found the motor would bog ever so slightly and at the same time could feel vibration pick up. Did a few more cuts on various wood and experience the same issue. Also noticed whenever the “vibration” could be felt, the wood would “splinter” or “chip” at the cut line. Took back to the store and swapped for another. I really want this saw to work as it is the best value for the money over dewalt, Hercules, and others in this price range. That being said, if it can’t cut a smooth line, it isn’t much of a value at all. Planning to try to test the replacement out tomorrow and will post an update then.

Sadly the replacement did the same thing. I have contacted support via email and done some research. I tried a different Blade with same results. Going to stop by and get a Diablo blade as a last resort. Also read that sanding the outside locking piece that holds the blade using high grit sandpaper on a flat surface may resolve the issue. My wife is insisting that since it has a lifetime warranty to give it a chance. I think it may work sufficiently for what I immediately need it for. Since I used a HD cc to purchase (buy stuff this way for the 365 day return policy), going to give it the chance. Will continue to update as I try different things and work with support (assuming they don’t just tell me to stuff it and just return it repeatedly).

Update #2 - After contacting support again, I was advised that the issue has not been reported for any of the R4222 saws so supposedly I would be one of the first. I was advised to purchase a high quality blade as the wobble is more noticeable on bevel cuts they feel the blade may be the culprit. Keep in mind I tried the ridgid blade that is was shipped with and an a avantipro blade. In the next few days I will get a Diablo blade and go from there. I’d they does not fix it I was advised to take it to a repair center and see if they can look at it while I am there to see what they would recommend. I had them check my sons saw which does the same and the SN on it shows it was manufacturers after the issues was fixed. So it seems to the R4221 and 4222 use the same “fixed” arbor setup. I was not told that, but I am deducing it based on experience. More updates to come once I switch blades (again).

@@brianshackelford5564 Thanks so much for the continued updates!! I'm going to Pin your original comment so hopefully people can read this thread. So extremely helpful man, truly! I tried filing down locking ring on mine as well, to make sure there were no burrs or imperfections. I ended up with the Dewalt I have now, and it's pefectly smooth right out of the box. I also have an Evolution R255 Miter Saw which is also 100% smooth & true out of the box. I hope Ridgid appreciates customers like yourself who are willing to go through so much for their brand!! I really wanted to love my Ridgid Saw.. but after 2 of them I saw a rough future ahead. Looking forward to hearing how the Diablo blade performs, I'll be very surprised if eliminates the issue all together. Thank you again for the continued updates!!!!

I figured I would write the sad, but apparently foreseen end to this tragedy. I went and purchased a Hercules 12" Sliding Dual Bevel Mitre saw from Harbor freight after reading and watching a LOT of reviews giving it very favorable ratings. Not wanting it to actually be better than a saw that is priced $200.00 more, I brought out the Ridgid, put the AvantiPro 80 tooth blade on it (OK its no Diablo, but it is supposed to be a decent blade) and made some more test cuts. The wobble seemed a little less with no load, but as soon as I started cutting I can hear the motor noise change and actual can feel the vibration in both the handle and the piece of wood I was cutting. Several iterations of this just to be sure. So I broke down and opened the Hercules saw, set it up in about 5 minutes. First cut was AMAZING. Smooth as silk in the motor, never dropped power, no variation in the sound and it cut through the same wood like butter. Now, to be fair it may be that the hercules saw comes with a primo blade, but still, even with no load on it (not cutting) it sounded nothing like the Ridgid. Made same cuts with no issues. Did a series of comparison cuts and ended with splintering every time on the Ridgid no matter how slow I went. Same cuts with the Hercules on the same piece of wood - no splintering. Did miter and bevel cuts and again on the Ridgid could feel vibration and can actually seem the blade marks well defined (can actually feel them on one piece) vs the Hercules they were not visible. It is a shame. I bought the Ridgid as a combo, love the stand, love all the features of the saw, but the main function just doesn't cut it - quite literally. I will be returning it as soon as I can get it in the back of my truck and drive the hour back to Home Depot. Thanks for the advice and the support. Ridgid - if you ever actually read this - start listening to your customers! You have a saw priced in the same range as the leading saws in this range, but you are simply not up to par on the quality in this case. Honestly, I again go back to suspecting it is something with the brake system - but hey - what do I know? Just FYI - The saw from HF with 3 year replacement warranty (take it back and drop it on their counter and walk out with a new one or a refund) was around $400.00 including tax. Highly recommend if your budget doesn't quite allow for the Dewalt equivalent. Make sure to find a coupon before buying - don't pay full price. I hope this helps someone else out and I wish I had listened to all the reviews....

Thanks for your video! I bought the R4222 yesterday (7/9/2022). As I was unboxing it, I found oil droplets spattered across the tool, parts and packaging. It made a slippery business of trying to free the tool from its Styrofoam home! Once on the table I went about cleaning and getting to know my new saw. The oil droplets came up easily, until they didn't... I found dark stains, almost like blobs of oil burnt into the Extension Table, that I couldn't remove. It only got worse from there. Areas at the back of the saw were corroded in a white mushroom fasion like what you'd find on an old battery. The top of one screw was covered in rust while it's neighbor screw was covered in black gunk. And finally, there they were... small crevasses caked with sawdust. "CRAP! Some knucklehead bought this thing, used it once and left it convalescing in a dark, damp corner where batteries go to die and then returned it to the store." At this point I could care less about a Lifetime Warranty. How about a Stupid People Warranty that includes dispatching an intelligent human armed with understanding and compassion arrives at your doorstep instantly and replaces the defective saw with one free of imperfection? No buts. No excuses. Here's the thing, though. When I opened the box, I first had to cut the surrounding plastic straps. In fact, ALL of the plastic straps, from the outside of the box to the contents, were present and intact, just like your video demonstrated. The tape on the box appeared to be original as well. The only unusual bit of packing was broken Styrofoam - the top piece and a couple of interior pieces. I was just going to take it back to Home Depot and exchange it. Now I'm wondering if I should test it for wobble first?

Follow up on my Rigid purchase and note to you from 1/24/21, after buying new Diablo Blade hoping the blade was the problem and returning Saw to Home Depot. Had considered the Metabo but not impressed upon closer look. Decided to get the Dewalt, not the "Special Buy" which is a lighter version. Went to the Depot, talked to the salesperson he gave me $50.00 off for the nonsense and took it to the shop, put it through the paces for 2 hours. This is an excellent saw, true and square and well built. I have been a carpenter for 40 years and it takes something to turn my head. Thought you might like to know. The associate that gave me the 50.00 off said this saw has had problems for the last year at least, he did not know why they continue to sell them. Some work fine but many are coming back. Thanks for the info on you channel.

My experience goes beyond yours. Bought mine back in 2016. The blade wobble was acceptable once I rotated the flange by 180. I guess it cancelled out the wobbling somewhat. I had no vibration at all. I used mine mainly to cut 2x4s or smaller stock; redid the base boards on house. Funny enough, in 3+ years I never had the need to use the sliders for any project that required any precision. A couple of months ago, I decided to build some drawers that were about 12" tall, so I decided to use the 4221 to make the cuts. To my surprise, the sliding mechanism was about 1/8" off from the fence to its full extend; in about 14" inches of travel, the deviation was 1/8". No way to correct it. I appears that the casting was bad and some people had reported the issue on some Ridgid forum. I spoke with Ridgid about it, and they suggested I sent it in for repair through my local Home Depot. After a few calls with the repair center to explain the issue, they offered to replace it with a refurbished 2018. Got the saw, an 1831 serial and although it is more precise (the slider tracks well), the wobble and vibration are horrible. The vibration is so bad when the detent is set to 45, it sounds like the motor is going to blow up. The saw has way too many flaws; granted I think the design (other than the dust extraction - it sucks pun intended) is OK and has potential. The manufacturing is poor at best. In any case, I will give Ridgid a call, but I think this thing will end up on Craigslist. It is still a decent saw for framing and related work, but I will end up going for a Dewalt 779 or 780. I do have other Ridgid power tools which are fine and like. Unfortunately, this saw is horrible.

I just bought the same saw so still learning. The hex key is as you later discovered is supplied and the manual did indeed state the location, albeit not too visual. On the dust issue it is a common problem; not just with Ridgid. Simply put NO DUST bag is worth a hoot. You cannot PUSH dust into a bag. You must PULL it. Therefore you need an input duct/port that is large enough in area to allow air flow great enough to suck the air volume required. So the basic problem with a shop vac. connection is the mouth area of the exhaust input port; probably limited by rear area space. Now on subject of blade wobble. This also is a core problem with any device with such a blade. It exists with a hand saw 7 inch blade or a saw with a 10 inch blade. In both cases it is less noticeable. Now with a 12 inch blade it more noticeable because of the larger mass spinning larger diameter thicker blades (wider kerf). There are 'stiffener kits' available for some products which claim to counter this issue but they introduce bigger issues of blade diameter reduction or even mounting problems. Its not easily fixable. This is basic aerodynamics matter. You may have already experienced this if you have flown at 35000 feet plus. The aircraft shakes because the wings are shaking (just like the saw blade) as it passes at high speed through the air. Maybe you are a bit too harsh on the manufacturer. The wobble is a bit of a moot point. Does I cut OK? I find it to be a good product when I cut probably the most demanding precision... compound miter crown molding joints. The product was designed for construction/outside work so dust is not an issue. (I should say I have NO relationship with anyone associated with manufacturing or distribution.) Just a common old retired woodworker.

Thanks for the long comment - lots of info. I will say the vibration and wobble I felt is a known defect with this saw. My dewalt miter, the one I ended up buying, is like a hot knife through butter in comparison. Zero extra vibration and zero blade wobble. The amount of wobble I had was allowing the blade to skip across the cutting surface which is not good for any type of cuts or for the sake of safety. I also have another miter saw by Evolution (and videos up on both the Dewalt and the Evolution as well) and it also has zero wobble or weird vibration. That’s my two cents on the whole thing. I bought two saws from Ridgid and both were the same horrible situation. Both got returned. Thanks again for sharing your thought! 👍🏻

  • @opiegonebad58

I picked up one of these just yesterday (2023) and it doesn't have the dreaded blade wobble. It does however have the horrible non existent dust collection. I used mine in my basement shop and have had an old Delta 10" chop saw for 20 years that has worked fine but it has come to the end of it's useful life. I have dust collection on all of my other shop tools but for some reason I have never had it on my miter saw so honestly I have been used to dust piles behind my chop saw. I did however modify this one with a high tech solution. Took a plastic cup, cut it in half long way and taped it to the lower half of the chute to extend it down to just above the table. Considerably improved the dust pickup. It still throws dust but now it picks up probably 75% of the dust compared to the 20% it was catching. Haven't tried a vacuum on it yet, that might help. My biggest gripe other than the size and weight is the terrible safety switch design. Being a short guy, I can barely push the button to pull the trigger if it is fully in the 'up' position. I have to pull it down a bit to push the button. They should put a side 'thumb' push button like every other manufacturer on the planet does.

Hey Guys, just bought the kit today at Home Depot (it's still in boxes) Canadian $497 + taxes for saw and stand. Seems like a great deal but I see why now. I was just roaming and researching reviews comparing this r4222 to the Dewalt when I stumbled upon this video/review. I do see below where someone else bought the new model and it seems to be working. The newer box actually has an identification on it that reads " New and Improved" and I checked the Bar code number (presumably serial no.) which reads BX1950 - so I'm hoping it's a December 2019 model as described in your video. Not 100% sure what I want to do from this point but I really do like the stand and many of the features of the r4222. Just went through another similar situation in Canada with Mastercraft 12" mitre saw and the junk it was and problems with Canadian Tire as retailer with poor customer service.

My neighbor is sold on Rigids, and I do like the guarantee thing myself...but not something that comes with a wobbly blade that spews saw dust everywhere! I am interested if you know if the parts that are in the new 780 can be easily swapped on the 779?

I don’t have the led light - as far as I know that’s the only option I lost. Also, Lowe’s switched the 32T blade for a 60T blade for me no charge when I bough it which was cool of them. @@Ryan-sn6gn truthfully, i have only used it for one project. My comment won't be as good as most daily users...It worked splendid, I did not notice any wobble. I haven't had a chance to cut thicker wood. Let's just say 2x2 with sliding, i had zero issues. My main complaint was mentioned probably by others was the dustbag doesn't do it's job, very narrow. I instead use a vacuum, still makes a mess but I can live with and clean it myself without frustration. Dust latching to the sliding assembly doesn't cause any issues either. You don't have to read this, I couldn't wait so I bought the miter saw and stand for $580ish? But I returned them. And got the miter saw and i think pneumatic stapler bundle. At the same time the miter stand went from $200 to $120, thats when I jumped on that stand, so convenient but i don't recommend paying for more than $130. Lowest was $100, but i don't think it will ever go that low again. Unless you stumble on directtoolsoutlet.com when they have Ridgid "Factory Blemish" sales since they are also lifetime warranty as long you register and chat with Ridgid to complete the process. I jumped on the Ridgid Wagon. My starter brand is black and decker, but that ridgid lifetime warranty, deals, and HD military discount got me.

When I searched for those same issues specifically, I was blown away by how many people had the same problems. And on top of that in the comments / reviews on Home Depot too - person after person - same wobble, same vibration. Then Ridgid claimed to have no knowledge of it yet all of their 12” miter saws are on the clearance rack. I honestly love Ridgid, almost every tool I own is from them, but they failed hard on this saw - but that’s ok! I like having my Dewalt now, and it’s good to mix things up!!

I am in Canada and have a R4513 model that is very similar (a few locking mechanism differences but very similar indeed) and have experienced none of the problems you guys went through with this saw except one. You are so right that the dust collection bag in a joke, its just flat out bad. I hooked the unit into my dust collection system and it is greatly improved but there is still more dust left on the unit than I would like to see. Overall though I am really happy with this unit that I have had for 3 years or so now, sorry you guys experienced the blade wobble situation - that is pretty poor.

I just bought one today. Same thing with me as far as Dewalt. I’ve had my Dewalt miter saw since 2006 but it’s only a 10 inch and now it seems everyone and their brother want real tall crown and base. I’ve been able to get by with my 10” by laying the base flat and doing a compound cut but it’s a real pain in the ass doing it that way. I’ve only unboxed the new Ridgid so I don’t know yet how it cuts. I registered it with Ridgid tonight. One of the reasons I chose this saw is because of the lifetime warranty on parts and service. I’ve read in several places that the blade wobble thing has been taken care of so hopefully it’s not an issue.

@@Edmund_Mallory_Hardgrove bahhhh I ended up taking it back to Home Depot because the saw was so big and heavy. It’s a nice saw tho. But seriously it’s too big to transport from job to job. It’s very long and very heavy. I hated to give it up because it seemed like it would do everything. I think it would be a great saw for a shop environment where you didn’t need to transport it all the time. I took it back and got the Dewalt DWS716XPS. This Dewalt doesn’t slide but it’s dual a bevel 12” miter saw with the light to shadow on the blade for easy cutting. It was 50 dollars more than the Ridgid. I’m happy with the Dewalt even tho it doesn’t slide. The other route I would consider is checking out the Hercules 12” sliding miter saw from harbor freight. It’s almost a clone of Dewalts 600 dollar 12” sliding miter saw. So Dewalt makes two 12” sliders, one is 300 and something and the other is 600. The Hercules is a clone of dewalts 600 dollar saw. Same weight and specs. Dewalts 300 dollar saw looks like their better saw but it’s not the same and it’s a lot heavier. If Weight isn’t an issue you would be okay to get any of these saws tho. The sliding mechanism on the Dewalt seems smoother than the Ridgid tho. Anyway I hope this didn’t make things more confusing. I am very happy tho with the Dewalt saw I ended up with.

Just purchased the same saw, R4222, and was setting it up and found the same problem as you, I knew that something wasn't right so doing some looking in the manual, and on page 17, fig 14 in both of the images it show a ring that goes in the centre hole of the saw blade. So I called Ridgid and had them send me one as one wasn't with the saw the I took it out of the box. While watching you video I tried to pay close attention when you remove the left hand bolt that holds the saw blade in place and when you remove it there was no ring, and that where it should be when shipped, between the outer and inter washers as per the manual. The ring is there because the hole in the saw is a 1 inch hole and the arbor is 5/8 of an inch, I did measure them. As a final note I knew when I seen the image of the ring what it was for as my old miter saw had one. As of today I have yet to receive the ring so the issue isn't solved 100% but I am confident that should fix it.

I'm be had my my saw of the same model for just over a year now. The better I've gotten at the craft the more I noticed the wobble. I first thought it was the blade. I was wrong. You're lucky you noticed it as soon as you did before the many other things broke like mine. One side of the handles for the bevel slips and does nothing. It continuously needs adjusted on both miter and bevel. And worst of all...the guard gets hyperextended on the down setting and won't come up as I pull down. I've had to take that whole assembly apart numerous times to bend and beat all the parts back straight again just to have it fail again a week or two later. Ive learned how to deal with its many idiosyncrasies but the blade wobble was its final nail in the coffin. Thanks for posting and letting me know I'm not alone.

1/24/21 I picked up the saw, unboxed and set it up in the shop, fired it up and there was the infamous death wobble. I too had been told by the "tool manager" the issue was from last year, a bad product run and there was not problem. He stated the item was selling out quickly. The blade as provided was not bad but had a slight deflection on my straight edge, so I went got the Diablo Blade, installed it, and guess what, it was worse. Back to Home Depot tomorrow, refund, and go to Lowes purchase the Hitachi Metabo, we currently have 4 of their saws, one 14inch that has been in service for 28 years. Perhaps they are not selling that well as there was 1/4 inch of dust on the box.

I was so disappointed that Ridgid wouldn’t admit there is an issue.. shocked is moreso the better word because they’ve always worked with me in the past. Once I saw how wide spread this issue seamed to be, I figured that I had to document my process and put a video out. Thanks so much for watching!!! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

I just bought this saw today prior to watching this video. My model# is 4222T and does not seem to have the wobble issues shown on yours. Im also using a 12" Diablo blade and not the stock blade that came with it. Is it possible that the factory blades are just junk? There are some additional differences in the design of the saw between the one i bought today compared to yours. Maybe they have fixed the issues? I made a few cuts to see how far out of alignment the machine was and the dust collection could be better but i had not hooked up to my central vac yet.

Wow.. thought I was the only one. I just bought this 3 days ago from Home Depot and thought I was crazy because something felt off , and then I did my first cut on a 2x6 and it started ok but about halfway thru the board it felt like it slowed down, never felt this on my other miter (a 10"ridgid) . I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, I cut the same board on my older 10"Ridgid and it cut smooth and effortless.. tried again on the 12" and blade slowed down significantly during the cut that it kicked back! never happened to me before. I tried it a dozen more times with 2x4, 4x4, 2x6 and it struggled to cut. It also felt like something moving/wobbling while I pushed thru. I didn't try another blade because I didn't want to spend another $50-$60 for something that should work out of the box. I immediately jumped online to look for review/videos and sure enough I wasn't the only one. Thanks for the video, I'm going to lug this this monster back to home depot, shame because the saw came with a free stand which is awesome.

My wife bought me this saw for Christmas 2018 without my input. To be honest, I would have never had purchased it since I always used Dewalts for more beefy cuts and used Hitachi for more pre ision and never would have considered Rigid for a saw. I have a curved staircase where I did a chair rail and backer and also did some faux wainscoting where I was doing 65+ degree cuts, kerfing out the wazoo for arched entrances and also cutting crowns as well. Fortunately, I had none of these problems other than the dust issue. When my wife purchased the item I read all the reviews on home depot's site and I notice that the stand reviews (which is awesome) were included...kind of made me fear the worse, thinking they were stacking the deck on the reviews. I was so concerned I called Rigid and they assured me the wobble problem was fixed (so, they are aware of this). So, come January I assembled everything and I made literally thousands of cuts with a diablo blade and have never looked back. Even making my wife a desk with hardwood maple lumber and maple veneer plywood, as well along with thousands of cuts on the soft stuff moulding material. I am at a loss that so many people have experienced this, but thought I would share my experience as well. For full disclosure, I am not a pro that cuts throughout the day, but I am a skilled DIYer that has done a fair share of cutting with high end and mid-grade saws.

Where is the serial number? Ive tried googling its location and i think ive found it but would like to be certain. Also, and its probably a stupid question, but why does it matter that the blades wobbles vibrates? Will that stop it from cutting true/square/straight? EDIT: I just ran out to the garage to check mine. Purchased it maybe a month ago. I needed/wanted one bad and for $250, basically 50% off, i couldnt pass it up. Anyway, looking down the blade as you did, mine doesn't seem to have even the most minute amount of wobble, but then again this is my first miter saw. Same goes for vibration, how much is excessive? Its kind of jumpy when i first pull the trigger, but smooths out long before top speed. My brother is a very skilled machinist, would it be worth it to check the runnout with a dial indicator? Any idea what i should be hoping for?

I could feel vibration that wasn’t normal - almost like an accelerated “knocking” feeing. When I’d cut a piece of wood I could feel the vibration in the wood and almost see the blade skipping a bit as it started to bite into the wood going slow. I’ve read / heard that the blade wobble is a motor issue which is cause by vibration. I’ve also heard some people have the wobble and just don’t notice it really until someone else points it out OR they use a different saw that doesn’t have the problems - and they go AHHHHHH that’s way better!! My Dewalt is night and day different. It’s so smooth and strong, no issues. I hope yours is a good one!! I so wanted mine to be perfect - I tried two of them and just no luck for me! Thanks for watching and for sharing your story!!! 💪🏻🙏🏻🛠

So I’ve had my saw for a couple days and after about 8 hrs of use I couldn’t find any wobble in the blade. The only thing I’ve had to do is adjust the alignment for the angle. After reading some comments about the serial number range I checked mine and it’s 1830. Looks like I picked the right one off the shelf is all I can figure. I love the saw though. So I have to say I took my ridged saw back after a few weeks of trying to convince myself that the wobble wasn’t there. It’s just too noticeable even with the “fix” from the factory and correct vin number. I was in Home Depot the other day and saw they had the Dewalt DWS799 for $399 with a free rolling stand. I couldn’t resist it! After 3 weeks of use I’m 100% convinced I made the right decision! This saw is so much better. They have some great deals this week on Dewalt Miter saws too. I’d make the swap. BTW - re the "MISSING BLADE WRENCH" - It comes from the factory mounted/inserted in the grey rear handle of the saw. It's clearly visible on the extreme right side of the screen at 6:26m and a few other time locations as well. They didn't forget it, they just tucked it into a handy storage place where it's readily available and less likely to get lost... or found? It's location is illustrated on pg 8 of the and is listed among the "Loose Parts" on pg 12. I have the 4221 which was a gift and just set up (months after receiving it because my DeWalt 10" doesn't have the same capabilities) and discovered severe wobble the moment I switched it on. Interesting to read various input remarks as to possible culprits: it seems like a shudder as may be either harmonically induced or blade balance although it's hard to ascertain because in isn't fully constant which led me to suspect it could be a drive train issue such as motor bearings or bushings because it's rather noisy too - that said my Makita 7 1/4" Hypoid is a noisy beast too. Cut surfaces aren't as nearly as badly marked as I had expected they'd be - but I'm sorely disappointed that Ridgid pushed this otherwise superb saw to market without thorough pre-production QA or inline QC production testing. Other than that, I have a lot of Ridgid tools that I'm very happy with, as well as some DeWalt tools that strike me as being a bit over-hyped.

@@TheToughGuysTV thank you so much brother, I have the DW717 discontinued , I love it but I can’t find a left fence for the love of god, that one of the reason why I wanna upgrade . So your saying the 10 is better?

I’ve been using the exact saw for quite some time now with no issues whatsoever all my tools besides my 14 inch bandsaw is now all rigid only for the last 3 years all my friends say good bye to bananas (dewalt) and hello oranges (rigid) lol and I use my tools from planer to everything in between for my furniture business and I’m 100% satisfied with my rigid tools. Don’t ask me about the life time warranty because I’ve had no issues to try to use it ?

I had the same issue with the saw. I though I was crazy. Blade wobble with new Diablo blade and when making miter cuts on tall material like risers it cuts crooked line 1/8 -1/16 maybe even a 32 but as a finish trim carpenter it makes all the difference in the world

I watched this video first and then unboxed the saw to use it on some fascia boards. From the serial number it looks like mine was built in 2021 month 26. Funny thing is that it did indeed have a bit of wobble and vibration the first few runs and then it seemed to go away...almost like it needed to wear something in..I'm suspecting that the brake for the motor on previous units was binding and causing the wobble...that would also explain the lack of power in some units as well...I will report back after finishing the project

I have built a couple of cedar/VG doug fir (splinters easily) fence gates with this and I'm not experiencing blade wobble. I used the 60 tooth blade out of the box too...I'm switching it out to a 100 tooth for some interior trim work and will report back. I really do think it has something to do with the motor brake being dialed in too tight on some units. I bought this for $200 on clearance

The best one is the Dewalt DWS779, or 780. Try to find it lightly used on Craigslist, etc. I found a 779, like new for $250 on CL. Awesome saw, man.👍

Just an fyi: the dust chute is NOT lower because you bought a sliding miter saw. Throw a 4x4 post on your saw and try to slide your saw forward and the dust boot would come in contact with the 4x4 post. So, thats the reason it's not hanging lower. Now, if this were a non-sliding saw, you could make that dust chute much lower. But, as is, its designed to clear 2x4,6,10,12 material that users would "typically" be using this saw for.

That really looked like the blade hole was out of round or not centered. Did you verify with another blade? It didn't look like side to side wobble, looked concentric or not concentric. Just curious mainly... might be a horrible arbor.

@@TheToughGuysTV Cool. I was considering this or the DeWalt DWS799. I ended up with the DWS799 and am upgrading to the LED shadow light via kit. This video helped me make that decision. That wobble would have been a huge frustration. Great video and thanks! By the way, the blade that comes with the DeWalt was warped on mine. I put a Diablo on it and it ran true. Just in case others see that I thought I'd mention it.

The Tough Guys ...wow very noticeable. I made my first cut. When you mentioned wobble thought you meant maybe the saw shaking wobbly not the saw. Good to note and will check it out when get back to my garage. My purchase Monday so will check pronto since today first time use and registered. Need to register the rigid universal table saw as well. Great pics in the video best I’ve seen concerning quality!

I ended up trying two different saws with two different serial numbers. Home Depot did not acknowledge a known issue with blade wobble nor do Ridgid which was very disappointing. These saws are on clearance all over the place and I don’t wonder why anymore. They know the issue is bad but they are banking on people not noticing it and keeping the saws past the return deadlines is my guess. I ended up buying a Dewalt which I did a video on as well if you’re interested. kzread.info/dash/bejne/d2uWu8eQfq-_Z5s.html

The Tough Guys thanks for sharing your Dewalt video. I will check it out. Is the size aka weight the same? All your time wasted not good again thanks for sharing your experience! I haven’t tested to look at mine. Does Dewalt have the lifetime offer like Rigid? I will let you know my experience after checking.

I think Dewalt has 3 years on their tools so it’s a tough decision for sure. The Dewalt feels about the same - both saws were / are hefty in weight. Overall the Dewalt just plain “feels” better. Thanks for checking out the other video too!!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻
