Rider techniques, part 17: TURN THE BIKE ON SIDE STAND - Onroad.bike

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

You can turn your motorbike on the smallest place around it's side stand. It't very easy - if you know the correct technique.

    You may also want to apply a slight reward force to keep the sidestand from closing while you pivot. If the stand closes go ahead and drop the bike. Saving your back is more important than scratching the paint.

    I found this video helpful. Even though I do this quite often, I learned something and for that thank you. As always, I will show other riders I see struggling with this technique.

    Sorry to be negative for this well made video. Sidestands are designed to support the weight of a leaning motorcycle. They are not designed to support the whole weight. You may get away with this a few times, but the stand bushings or frame bracket will stretch and weaken very quickly. Each time the bike spins the torsional forces put on the stand cause the brackets and bushes to twist, these forces were never factored in during design and the metal will fracture. This is not a skill you have to master, just turn the bike the same way as all other bikers do.

    DutyDruid Agreed. For your reasons, plus possible snapping or closing of the stand, I'd be far too nervous to try this technique. I'd rather bounce the bike or get a push to reverse and turn.

    True, doing it repeatedly on a bike that's not made for it can be dangerous yet it could be helpful in some situations

    I want to know how to bend the kickstand, it's too strong, the side of the streets have a slope at the end and my kickstand is holding my bike weird and it has tipped over 2 times already because of strong winds... A Quick Fix would be probably to loosen the bolt that holds the kickstand so i can have the extra space as if it was bent.. and just lean on it

  • @piggysister01

    @piggysister01

    TREESGOBOOM I think you would be EXTREMELY unwise to bend or loosen your stand! Bending it could very seriously weaken it, and loosening it could dangerously change where the supporting strength is coming from. Could you change the direction you park your bike or park on the opposite side of the road etc to solve the problem?
