These rider technique series videos are first class, shorts sessions of really good information that we can all learn from and easily absorb. Your knowledge and experience in motorcycling is class leading, can save lives and put over in a refreshing style, not to mention the dry humour! We need more of these and need to get more motorcyclists watching and learning these life skills. Well done and thank you!

Thank you bro for the very valuable information here. I always use the rear brake at the beginning of the braking for the same reason you mentioned but not in emergency braking. what you taught me now is to aggressively hit the rear brake for a fraction of a second while there is still load on it before the weight shifts to the front, and then forget about the rear and concentrate on the front after that split second. One more thought, I think that bikes with autoblipper makes it easier to downshift without worrying about any clutch action, but then it is most likely that the motorcycles with autoblippers have not only ABS but a cornering ABS too!! So there is convenience to still hit the rear brake until the motorcycle stops. It all depends on what a person has a a motorcycle and most importantly to train heavily with the proper technique that best works with the technology of his/her bike. Never wait to confront an emergency braking situation without having previous training maybe 2 times a week!

Notice the upright position. Don’t brake hard while turning, ever. In a corner, stand the bike up and brake.

Blocking the rear wheel, and then forget it!? Never heard that one before. You know my take: - then steer the least at one side and you will have a locked rear passing your front end, possibly causing a high side towards the object and a broken neck + a grieving family - an academic view that at first you have traction at rear; I say, pull the front as fast and delicate as you can - practise - as you need to get max traction at front ASAP; and - of course - simultaneously brake rear but w/o locking the wheel - practise. You get what you get at rear.

Hello! Very good video, good explanations and very usefull demonstration videos in the background. There is only one thing that I am not 100% sure of: locking the rear wheel for the whole period of braking. Locking the rear wheel means breaking traction it it jist slides along while the front wheel gets all the traction and slows really fast. What hapened to me in my first years of riding was that I locked the rear and because of it’s inertia and because the front decelerated faster, the rear of the motorcycle moved violently to the side and, for sure, that’s an awful poaition to have while emergecy braking. What hapens is the body of the bike pivots around the front wheel. I am curious what are your toughts on this and if ever hapened to you. Thank you for the video!
