The word "Underrated " is used far too often in music. Here is one example, where one of the best groups of our time, were not given their due around the world...yet.

@@StainedGlassStories Yeah to that! During Covid I ran my fav underrated music series for my friends. At the time I rated "Leave them all behind" (Long Version) as my fav song of all time. Still gives me shivers listening to that song to this day. Two masterpiece albums and with two comeback albums, the last really solid all the way through, it speaks for itself.

I still remember where I heard Vapour Trail for the first time. I was completely blown away with how beautifully structured that song is. The strings, the amazing drums, the guitars. To this day I don’t think there is a song that is so perfect. You can’t change anything to make it better. Been a Ride fan ever since, I bought a bunch of their albums that day.

RIDE for me was a game changer in the early 90s growing up in Southern California. Punk had died years earlier, and I for sure wasn't gonna be into shitty Grunge! Thankfully I discovered RIDE, the stone roses, Catherine wheel and chapterhouse to save music going into the 90's. Years later right before the RIDE reformation I got the chance to meet and talk with Mark up in the high desert of Southern California. It was during his solo era playing a psychedelic festival near yucca valley. As I sat with him near the pool we discussed music, and other things about life in general. He asked me about growing up in California, and we had a really interesting conversation that lasted about an hour. At some point he asked me "So Paul - if RIDE were to reform, do you think there would be support"? A bit shocked I enthusiastically replied Yes!!! 100% huge support! I will never forget that conversation with him, and regard Mark as a very genuine person and class act. So glad they are back! Long live RIDE.

Saw them in 1992 and again late last year. Though 30 years had passed, they were better than they were 30 years ago - and they were bloody good back then! Their energy and unity as a group is simply amazing. One of the few bands who translate well from the studio to the stage. They are unique.

I don’t believe Steve Queralt has changed a bit since Ride’s debut album days. They’re all in their 50’s and time changes us all eventually if not sooner, but he is the least-talked about Ride member and to me THE absolute coolest. Terrific bass player for a terrific band that I’m thrilled got back together nearly a decade ago already.

In Spring 1991 I was a student at TeesPoly/ Uni. I walked into Alan Fearnleys Record Store, (a Little shop) and there they were browsing the records, there was no one else in. We talked briefly, they said they were playing at The Rock Garden that night. They seemed quite shy lads. I never got to see them. I was a bit older anyway at nearly 29. But I liked their sound. I had seen a lot of Punk and Post Punk bands in my teens. But I had been disappointed with the Eighties. But it seemed in 1991 that music was getting interesting again just as I was getting old!

Great documentary ✌️👍💜😊 As others have said, Ride are underated. They're superb. I'm not sure why they weren't on TV more in the UK, they lived in and around the next City to me, very local, yet I didn't become aware of them until later, even though I was watching local bands and gigging in indie type bands too. I worked in Banbury too. I love their Gregorian type harmonies, with the sonics of the music contrasting too✌️✌️

What I get from the title of stained glass' videos being called documentaries is that they are the only videos, almost always, the only videos or one of the few videos on KZread you can find about the smaller bands and their histories. Although they may not have super in-depth and rare interviews and cutaway scenes and extreme editing and footage of live shows and things like that that are documentary would, I really appreciate this person making these videos about the histories and backstory of these bands. I don't think there's anything wrong with calling this a documentary because it's not like there's another documentary out there about the band ride. Unless someone with a lot of money in their production budget who was also a really big fan of ride someone like say Edgar Wright decided to finance an actual film documentary about ride. I appreciate all the work that you do, and I get plenty of information from these videos that you make about my favorite band so thanks cuz I couldn't find them elsewhere.

Great band, very close to Teenage Fun Club in my opinion with a more psychedelic approach.Leave them all behind my favorite.

OX4 isn't pronounced 'ox' '4', but 'O' 'X' '4'. OX4 is the postal code for East Oxford, where I used to see the various members of the band kicking around in the early 90s when I lived there... on buses, in bars, at the football when Oxford played at The Manor... It's a song about yearning for home.

I never heard about Steve going back to a 9-5 job, that's really interesting. Do you know what he did for work by chance? Seriously great documentary by the way!

To me, it's the unique drumming with good basslines that makes their best songs work. Ride at it's best didn't seem to be about Mark and Andy.

When i was in this indie scene in Glasgow in the mid/late 80s we didnt like the terms shoegaze or twee. And back then it was closely interconnected with people into 1960s music and style. So i always called it 'the 60s/indie scene'.

I always imagined what things would've looked like if they went with marks idea , like they already had a couple baggy tracks so I don't think it would've been a problem.

I can honestly say we never used the term ‘shoegaze’ in Australia in the 90’s when listening to or referring to any bands like RIDE or MBV etc. I don’t think it was even a thing at that time. Just cause bands like RIDE focused on playing their instruments and didn’t jump around on stage or have those flashy, generic rock band affectations that were popular in mainstream music.
