that hipster "new grass" is shit. They have no identity or connection to the music, no background of being mountain-folk or southerners. They just copy it cos it sounds "cool" to them, and like to play dress up with their coveralls and old time looking clothes. They're pathetic. However Ricky is the real deal! We need somebody to take his place.

Ricky is absolutely a mandolin master. Bill Monroe's mandolin was notorious for being hard to play because of the way he liked it set up. You can tell by how conservative he plays on this. Still an absolutely iconic moment!

My nephew sang this at my mother’s funeral who passed away at 97 a month ago. I haven’t been able to cry..the last few months had been rough..but this unleashed the tears. Thank you, I needed to let go. I was feeling guilty that I didn’t fully appreciate this incredible mother or do more with her when she was younger. She was still gardening 6 months before her death and I thought she’d live forever but alas we all need to let our mothers know how much we love and appreciate them before it’s too late.

My mammaw who was the most dedicated Christian woman, loved gospel music. Lately I've had this song stuck in my head. I'm not a Christian but she was. She would sing gospel music all the time. This was one she sang often. I know it because of her and her making me go to church. I guess she's been talking to me and I didn't realize it. I would never personally choose this song but she would. I lost her in 2003. I was 16 years old. I'd give anything to see her again. I will always love gospel music because of her.

I agree. I know I don't and it's thanks to masters like Ricky Scaggs that make it look so easy that keeps me happily ignorant! What an amazing musician and singer!!

Ricky has been my man since the late 70s. When we were both. I also had an awesome 35 mm camera back in the day. And I have a few pictures of Ricky at some concerts he done near my hometown flint michigan. And all my friends know Ricky skaggs. And every time they hear it or I play it they'll say oh geez there's her man again.
