Ricky Gervais with The Hollywood Reporter's Tim Goodman
The Hollywood Reporter TV Talks and 92Y present Ricky Gervais in Conversation with THR’s chief television critic Tim Goodman. Recorded May 20, 2017 at 92nd Street Y.
In a world gone crazy, what do we need now more than ever? The mad comic genius of Ricky Gervais, who visits 92Y the night before his eagerly awaited Humanity world stand-up tour hits Madison Square Garden.
And he arrives on the heels of his hilarious new film, Netflix’s David Brent: Life on the Road, which finds his beloved, epically delusional Office character chasing rock ’n’ roll stardom with his band, Foregone Conclusion. Don’t miss the chance to catch this comedy giant in person as he talks with The Hollywood Reporter’s Tim Goodman about taking on everything from the state of the industry to the state of mankind - and, if we’re lucky, offers us a glimpse of David Brent’s unprecedented musical artistry.

What a absolutely brilliant insight into life this man has! I love this guy
ricky is THE MAN!!!
the man is a comedy genius
It's always cool to hear smart people talk. Especially if their intelligent and funny. Add to that dude has a cool English accent
I'm guessing "Attached" became the brilliant After Life. Can't wait for season 2!
He said he wouldn't have a recorded version of Humanity so he could do it live longer. He did it live for a long time, and then announced it would be on Netflix. The double milk. I like it.
15:48 this is from 2017... what a genius
I remember trey parker and matt stone talking about Russell Crowes album, they described it as "Bon Jovi meets Hepatitis B"
Ricky Gervais♥
I think "Attached" came to be "After Life."

Christos Karsanidis Personally I think that would be even worse than Life on the Road which I thought was not that good. That character is so much better than that movie.

Mr Life on the Road was awful. So uninspired. Characters doing and saying things that were not remotely believable, just to force a joke you see coming a mile away. Ppl were insanely cruel to David, then all abruptly like him for no apparent reason in order to have a sentimental ham fisted ending. Maybe he needs Stephen Merchant to stop him from getting too corny, over the top, and/or self indulgent
A new drinking game- every time Gervais says "Do you know what i mean?"
Gervais did EXACTLY what BOB HOPE did at award shows "cut-ups" and if u were not in BOB's monologue means u have not made it yet! Bobby Darin at Oscars every year not in BOB HOPE's routine. Finally when DARIN up for Oscar BOB HOPE put him in for his usual abuse of big stars! Darin did not win Oscar but he did win his place in Hollywood!
"Chris, why don't you fuck off" that's the line that made David Brent self aware. the character was done after that. Also i hate that Ricky keeps saying I when he refers to the Office....what happened to when WE wrote the office.

Totally agree. It's disrespectful more than anything! Smerch had no trouble mentioning Gervais in his Cambridge union interview. (Worth a watch btw, sound quality is awful though).

Brilliantly put. There was no need to do anything else with the character. Life on the Road was a pale imitation, with Brent going through the exact same arc, except this time it was unsatisfying and pointless. His ego has made him insufferable
Ricky is one of God's most insightful atheists!
Drew Carey's weight loss seems to have changed his voice quite a bit.

Just a tip for all comedians--as soon as you have a populist cheap shot at Trump it always feels,to me anyway, like you've run out of ideas or material, the subject is getting tired, boring and predictable now, give it a rest.

“always feels, to me at least” No comedian ever cares what you feel. Not one.
