Creator and star of The Office and Extras, Ricky Gervais has won three Golden Globes, two Primetime Emmys and seven BAFTAs. The Office is the most successful British comedy of all time, shown in more than 90 countries with seven remakes. Gervais has returned to stand-up comedy for the first time in seven years, touring his new show Humanity worldwide.
ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.
The Oxford Union is deeply grateful and encouraged by the messages of support in response to our determination to uphold free speech. During our 200 year history, many have tried to shut us down. As the effects of self-imposed censorship on university campuses, social media and the arts show no signs of dissipating, the importance of upholding free speech remains as critical today as it did when we were founded in 1823. Your support is critical in enabling The Oxford Union to continue its mission without interruption and without interference. You can support the Oxford Union here: oxford-union.org/supportus

You forgot to mention some of his greatest character traits. Ricky is incredibly smart and a major science nerd... I love his podcasts with Lawrence Krauss, Sam Harris and Neil DeGrassse Tyson.. He can really talk coherently with some of the greatest minds of our time. Oh yes, of course... He's a brilliant comedian too, whether in a stand up comedy form where he dissects human society, our fears and doubts, or as a director/producer/writer of his cutting edge comedy series. Ricky Gervais definitely inspires me..

Yes, I love him and his message! And ironically as he talked about desperate people living live like a public open wound, lying so much and audacious that the lie becomes accepted or attempting infamy as reward, and your life as a reality story ruin the people who try that as their route to make them relative is so pathetic. I could not help think of Harry & MEEghan now that if not for the fact it preceded them by a few years he prophetically told their future! He is a wise, deep and thoughtful man!

In that case, it means nothing. It's a useless, wasteful and senseless emotion. If It doesn't mean you're right, but doesn't mean you're wrong, then it's not a moral gauge that's useful. The problem Ricky is highlighting is, in the first instance, a huge number of people use offense to mean they ARE right. And many others go along with it, and acts as though it's like moral currency.

I thought it was a bit awkward and sad how the moderator didn’t ask any questions about Ricky’s love for animals, and just said “great” and changed the topic. Seemed like he just didn’t care to know and felt somehow uncomfortable with the topic. Like so many people when you talk about animal rights or veganism feel uncomfortable and want to switch topics, although they’re quite comfortable to engage in behaviours that exploit animals.

It's happening just as I said it would...the healing phase of being "scared to death”is lung cancer, pneumonia, bronchitis and flu. You can also expect to see more appendix problems which are caused by being in fear for your life, feeling like a fish out of water, uncertain of your place in life. The longer the fear, the more serious the diagnosis. When the willful hostages are finally freed from their homes (because of media and government lies based on the fraudulent Germ Theory), and people begin to get happy and feel less stressed, the result will be the healing phase....of pneumonia, burst appendix, gallbladder issues, arthritis in certain joints, it’s all subjective to what your brain experienced at the moment of the conflict. The fear campaign has caused ALL the illnesses, not a Boogey Virus. Every disease is based on the Germ Theory, which was the theory of ONE man over 100 years ago. It was never proven to be 100% valid, and has not even been QUESTIONED again. Why? In order for a theory to be valid, it must be reproduceable in each and every person 100% of the time. Every single person exposed to a "virus" MUST get sick from it 100% of the time, over and over again. It's how you PROVE a theory is valid. This was never done. Scientists used to think witches and witchcraft were valid!! Educated people?? hahaha!! If you cannot "catch" cancer, arthritis or diabetes from another person, then you cannot "catch" a cold or flu. There is no such thing that only SOME diseases are communicable, but not all. It's either all or none of them...they are all based on the same Germ Theory. If you can't "catch" someone's lung cancer, you can't "catch" their colds or flu. Upsetting and distressing events in a person's life is what cause ALL cancer and cancer-equivalent disease, cold, flu, pneumonia, bronchitis, etc. The cause of death in Small Pox was PNEUMONIA, not acne lesions. The only people who “caught” Small Pox were the ones who were attacking each other..Indians and Militia....people who feared and were attacked by each other. A massive fear campaign will CAUSE people to be "worried sick", but sickness doesn't happen until people resolve their fears. Why do you think kids get sick in October? Because their fear of going back to school and being upset about it finally dissolves, and they get back into their routines. What the media and government is doing to people is criminal. Western Medicine is pure fraud. I can't be the only person in this disgustingly brainwashed world who knows about German New Medicine.

He's down to earth in a way that he's dumber than dirt. "People who believe in God don’t need proof of his existence, and they certainly don’t want evidence to the contrary. They are happy with their belief. They even say things like “it’s true to me” and “it’s faith." Ricky Gervais Ricky does not know what biblical faith is because he just does not care to know. Biblically, faith means trust. It's a trust by evidence seen. God asks that we prove things. To reason. To get knowledge. To study. God has nothing to hide. We develop trust from what is seen, and that which is not seen yet is trusted also because of the trust built up from what is seen. It's much like a human relationship. We don't trust much until a person has gained that trust from what is observed. The difference is though, God is not limited to human powers. He created us. Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. crossexamined.org/biblical-faith-vs-blind-faith/ www.truthortradition.com/articles/what-does-the-bible-say-about-faith www.revisedenglishversion.com/Appendix/16/Faith_is_Trust www.truthortradition.com/articles/faith-a-confident-expectation-of-gods-promises-coming-to-pass www.truthortradition.com/articles/hebrews-1-11-and-faith Ricky can't even explain the start, creation, and yet he acts so smugly. Real science says nothing does nothing. Real science says if there was something there already it must fit with the evidence of what we know. We know the 1LT says there's a conservation of energy. It can change forms and neither can be created or destroyed. Creation cannot happen by natural means. The 2LT has various aspects, one being the universe is winding down, entropy. Usable energy is becoming less usable, so at one point usable energy was at its max. This all points to a supernatural creation, by a supernatural creator at a certain point in which matter, space, and time were created. When I read how it can happen otherwise, ALL the fools resort to science-fiction. Once a supernatural creation is accepted, then the next step is finding proof of what supernatural power did it. We can't even get science without God. The laws of nature only can come from a Lawgiver, God. We only get life from life...the law of biogenesis. We can't get anything without God. God is the reason for us and all we have. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fJ2B09yHj7y5iLg.html “However improbable the origin of life might be, we know it happened on Earth because we are here.” -Richard Dawkins. 9:20. He makes a cracking point here. If everyone's agreeing with you, your words are accomplishing nothing. If you are speaking your mind about a subject which you feel strongly for/against, and everyone who is listening to you is agreeing, you are preaching to the wrong people. I think this is a big problem at the moment where these SJW people are all hyped up on the fact that everyone has been agreeing with them, so you should too. But in reality, everyone is not everyone, they are the people whom you have chosen to talk to.

DowzerWTP72 Yes, but in discussing your opinions with those of like mind, you get new information and perspectives you might have never thought about, you get nuances, details and a more complete ideology, worldview, etc. The keyword here is "preaching" Talking is not necessarily preaching, and frankly, I don't want to be preached to, and I have no respect for anyone who tries to preach. I agree with something else Gervais says, being right about something is not the point of being happy in a civil society. What happened to debate, or the consideration of others' opinions. It is this drive to be right. Like everything in life is a contest. This is part of the divisiveness. It goes along with winning, or the idea of being a winner or loser (in people's minds.) And that is based on how much achievement accomplished through individualism--competing to beat others in order to win (and here's where we went wrong--at any cost, even at the expense of others.) There has been a price to our systems that have become more and more oppressive.

"It is the mark of the educated mind to be able to entertain an idea without accepting it"-Aristotle. I think this sums up the start of this talk very well. My generation seems to be woefully ignorant towards this concept nowadays. Not all millennials are ignorant snowflakes screeching for censorship. Ricky's handling of the 'Would you rather ...' question was masterful. Rather than dismiss it out of hand he showed a comedian's mind at work by exploring any potential humour in the scenario. His exposure of the failure of the questioner came when he says, 'You can't ask a question and then back out. You haven't thought it through.' For me, that epitomized the difference between a comedian who thinks carefully about the topics and things he comments on, and an individual throwing out a one-liner in the misguided belief that he's funny.
