Late reply but I don’t think Rick really cared that much about Unity. I mean without a doubt, he’s hurt, but not to the point of killing himself, the reason he attempted to kill himself was because Unity made him remember something, that he’s alone. She even said that Rick is better than anyone, meaning that Ricks the smartest person and no one compares, that he’s at the top, and it’s lonely at the top. He understands things differently because he’s so smart, and no one would ever understand him.

I'm glad that you guys see how Rick really cares about things, despite what he says. So many people seem to think that this show is nihilistic, when it's the *opposite* of nihilistic. The show is about Rick coming to terms with his issues.

Exactly, the show is not promoting nihilism at all, Rick is not an aspirational character in his vices, but in his slow overcoming of them.

I agree with Rob everyone is letting Rick slide with a LOT of shit and Jerry was cutting grass because the last episodes the house got teleported and it left a line in the cement where the grass could grow come on it's five of y'all! Also who said the space currency works for Earth? It was for Rick's own benefit

Lunacy's Straightjacket It is common for most viewers to side with Rick because all the cool things he can do and how he shits on everyone. Not everyone really thinks about how dealing with someone like Rick in real life would be extremely frustrating. It doesn’t help the people who usually call out Rick for being shitty are Morty and Jerry who are more often or not portrayed as being wrong or pushing their own morals or ideals on to a man who points out the flaws in them and universe throws them in situations where those ideas fail. Jerry is an idiot and selfish but this episode he made valid points on how Rick plays on Beth’s abandonment issues to get away with getting what he wants and endanger their kids, but since it is Jerry pointing this out it loses credibility.

Its Rick, you think finding a way to make space currency hold value on earth is beyond his abilities? It's just a matter of a couple trades and/or service exchanges. Also, yeah, Rick is a bit of a mess at times. The guy literally doesn't see much of a purpose to life. He was produced this way, though. That's not really an excuse, but a way to empathize with his pain. Wubba lubba dub dub, amrite? Sure, he hurts others while dealing with his own hurt and that's not cool. Where do we go from there? He either can't or won't change, let's assume can't for the sake of the debate. So what do we do with Rick? Do we just keep letting him do what he does in the name of love and understanding, or do we self-preserve and cast him out on his own where he will likely end up killing himself, not to fail due to a impulsive dagger in his heart, but to succeed due to a calculated and determined solution to his, and others where he causes, problems. What's the right thing to do with these types of people? What would you do if you were in Rick's shoes?

Interesting fan theory- the little being Rick kills is posited to be one of the Cronenburgs, a child from the reality where Rick accidentally fucked everyone's genomes up with his love potion. It's believed he was holding onto a sample baby from that reality to find a cure, because much though he despises it and refuses to admit it, he really does still have a shred of conscience deep within him and he felt guilty. But he never found a cure, and so, in this moment of despair in his life, he just chooses to euthanize it in a test of his suicide machine. Well... I don't know if it really holds water. S'not like Rick's really cared about collateral damage before.

That might be, but I feel that the creators intended the creature as symbolism for his outwardly cold unfeeling heart, which screams in excruciating pain beneath that unapproachable exterior.

Rick’s suicide attempt was one of the most powerful emotional moments I’ve ever seen in a show. The music is haunting

A quick insight about how deep this show can get..At the end where Rick goes to kill himself and you guys pointed out about Jerry "He's wacking the cement!" But if you notice, he is smiling. They are portraying how depressing it can be to be extremely intelligent (Rick getting drunk and attempting suicide) and also how ignorance can be bliss (Jerry running the weedeater on the cement but he's happy doing it.)

Jerry ain't weed-whacking the cement. Watch it carefully. There are weeds growing out of the crack that was made in the season one finale when the whole house with part of the garden was transported into another dimension. They brought the house back but the circular crack around the house and through the driveway stayed. So now there's grass and shit growing out of the cement.
