When you really think about it, Cyprus was probably far more financially and strategically valuable than Jerusalem. I understand Jerusalem was incredibly important, religious-wise. But Cyprus would make supplying and reinforcing the Kingdom of Jerusalem so much easier, especially if one takes advantage of the large amounts of trade that occur in that region. Not to mention, Cyprus would be a great place to store crusading forces and plan a military campaign.

Absorbed all I could on the subject of Richard and the Crusades as a kid more than 40 years ago. The unprovables aside, the military exploits alone made him a giant of the Age.

But if it really kept it Richard liquid and then he sold it twice how did he leave England in so much debt. Then he gets himself captured and his ransom is crazy but Phillip pays even more to keep Richard in jail longer. I think Richard is a great general but a terrible king not to mention the fact he said he’d sell England if only he could find a buyer and only spent 6 months there and that was to tax. Not to mention going to war against his own dad. He gets no blame for his mistakes. Then he stupidly dies because he forgot to wear his gorget like how’d I you not notice that your neck is missing a big heavy piece of metal. Great brother to caused so many problems and John gets the blame for not being able to fix everything. He ruined everything Henry II built

It was John that ruined everything. At Richard's death the Angevin Empire was intact. Richard was a great king, it's a misunderstanding of the historical period in question that causes some people to believe he wasn't a good king.
