I can't believe this is still around. I agreed to appear on A Current Affair to speak about the decline of the music industry. They asked about James twice. The first time I replied that I would not say anything bad about him, as the question was phrased in such a way to presuppose I would. The second time I added that I did not want anything bad said about James, just to be clear. I still thought A Current Affair was a news program that reported the news, not created their own. When it went to air, I was shocked, embarrassed and enraged. I seemed to be saying things I never would. It wasn't until I ran into another musician from the 80's/90's in the supermarket that it was finally explained. This musician used to work for A Current Affair. He said that they keep on asking questions until the get the answer they want and then record another question back at the studio, completely changing the dialogue into something that would cause controversy. This is a more severe and pointed type of bilge journalism that reported my 'head injury' or 'brain damage', depending on what gutter press one reads. I took North Sydney Council to court to hold them responsible for road works that caused a number of collisions on the same night, as a matter of public safety. I was not over .05 and there was no evidence that I was, as stated during the court hearing by the policeman who attended the accident site. The court system is simply a matter of who make the most convincing lie. North Sydney Council's solicitors proclaimed that I was over the legal PCA, rendering them void of responsibility; my solicitors claiming brain damage as a way to augment their case, for which I never gave authority. I liked Guy McDonough and have never criticised him. The austech person has about as much idea about songwriting as he does about the press and grammar. 'Bink's', refers posession by Bink.

As fate would have it I’m learning your lead licks from Downhearted this past week. Haven’t been able to put the guitar down for days. Thank you for your unmistakable and unique contribution to the Australian soundtrack of the 80s, even if you were not fairly recognised 🍺🫡 My brothers played your records till they were worn out, I wasn’t allowed to touch the record player until the late 80s 😂

Interesting to note James’s “mansion” is briefly shown early on, only for the “journalist” to contradict himself by declaring “it’s not one”.

1 Timothy 6 v 10 to 12.....The LOVE of money is the root of all evil. Similar things happen to many people not just musicians.....that's why a good lawyer is worth their weight in rocking horse manure. It's a sad thing to say, but you can't trust anybody when it comes to money, always get a contract, always get your lawyer to read it before you sign or agree to anything!

They were a band they worked together money should be split evenly. Doing guitar riffs is just if not more important than the person writing the song. Same as the the drummer ect ect they’re a team. Money should be shared equally

While Binks has some legit gripes about how the music industry works, the rest is sour grapes. Since he suffered a bad head injury while drink driving (and successfully sued a council for damages over it....how does that work?), he seems to think that everything wrong in his life was caused by someone else. When he isn't bagging out James Reyne, he is online bagging Guy McDonough , who being deceased cant fight back. The music industry has always been the same, if you write the song you are the one that gets ongoing royalties. Bink's even complains that Reyne "doesnt like to share his songs"........that's because they are his Simon. Almost every Australian Crawl hit was written by Reyne or McDonough. It's pretty self explanatory, and it's a pity a grubby show decided to give Bink's some air time to moan about his misfortunes.

What song's at around 5:16? And what was that particular recording of Downhearted? Its been used as the 2013 remastered Version but I cant find that video that its come from. Found the version; a 1980 countdown performance but it seems to be blocked in Australia :/. Still, whats the other song?

The worst of the worst journalism. Reason enough in itself to take 'A crappy affair' off the air. Simon - thanks for the riffs - and be guided by Confucius who said 'Holding anger / bitterness towards any other has the same effect as swallowing poison & hoping they get sick. The only wrong in this is the media muck raking. James - thanks for the music & great times shared at concerts, parties & other musical times 🎶🎸👍😊

Actually, you are spot on. Reyne was playing solo for 15 minutes at a pub on the north side of Sydney about 15 years ago.He arrived one hour late, got his guitar, started strumming it with his latest obscure songs.I left after 5 minutes, a total waste of time. It is one thing to be surrounded by talented musicians and think that on you are still the ants pants. Lately Reyne has realised he is human as his record company was waking away from him. Ultimately he is only human with a massive ego. If you remove Simon's comntribution to the band they would be in damage control. Which is what happened.
