Hey, Friends!!!! I took some days off to spend some time with my wife and kiddos for the holidays and new years. Unfortunately, it put me behind on my uploads. SO, instead of not putting anything out, I decided to drop this video. I've been sitting on it for a minute, waiting for a rainy day lol. i’ve seen some people complain about the animation in the first season looking less polished and don’t like the muted, slightly darker colors but honestly these things are exactly why i like it. the style just fits the vibe of the show and setting tbh, like the handcrafted, sunbleached and worn-out look of an old tropical beach town, so comfy and familiar.

It was cel animation. Up until the 2000s that was the norm. Many shows used cels for animation and later at some point they switched over to digital ink and paint. There's commentary explaining it on the home release.

@@Father_of_Death oh yeah im aware! i’m a big cel animation fan even if it is archaic and expensive compared to digital, i don’t think it’s really worse or better than digital and i think digital definitely fits some styles better, but man do i love spongebob animated on cels even though i know it’ll never be done again

They still have adult jokes in the new stuff, but its worse. It's in more of a kinky perverted way, nowadays but back then the adult jokes were hidden. Shows like Ren & Stimpy make me sick to my stomach but shows like CatDog and Invader Zim, (and sometimes early SpongeBob), where the adult jokes were more hidden, it's fine

Definitely check out season 2. Frankendoodle, Band Geeks, Graveyard Shift, Artist Unknown, none of these can be ignored.

For me seasons 1-3 were absolute peak. Every episode they put was amazing and timeless and for me personally, there probably won’t be another cartoon that can match up to that stretch. Straight classic after classic from F.U.N to Rock Bottom to Band Geeks to The Camping Episode early Spongebob was something special

2:14:13 I never used to really find this bit funny as a kid but now I'm in tears watching it. That Patrick, even while trembling and on the verge of tears, still reads out his script without skipping the "action" bits is just absolutely side-splitting to me. Bill Fagerbakke and all the animators did an incredible job.

Im only an hour into the video, i just got done with Pizza Delivery, and i never noticed how well squidward is animated in the older seasons, I've never payed super well attention to him but specifically his walk cycle and dynamic poses using his legs to bend differently to make him feel more planted to the ground, somtimes the four become two legs, sometimes they spread apart to make four, its honestly really cool

I hope we get to see a season 2 commentary in the future. These videos are just pure nostalgia to me and I love listening to them in the background while i work! Thanks for all your hard work!

I had a few VHS tapes of some episodes of season 1. I'll always remember being sick at home from school, popping in SpongeBob & watching those same few season 1 episodes over & over. This show, specifically "Suds" will always hold a special place in my heart ❤️

In an alternate timeline, spongbob wasn't all that well received and ended up as an obscure cartoon from the late 90s to early 2000s that only ever got one season and is regarded as a ''Hidden Gem'' or ''Stephen Hillenburg's forgotten masterpiece"

However, if Spongebob would've ended in 2004 like it was supposed to, I think much like with Rugrats it would've gotten a reboot and revival in the 2020s, in an alternate timeline where it's not all that well received.

I love how in reef blower when spongebob revved it up 100 miles away and got snatched; it left air bubbles in his shape because hes a sponge. The details are excellent

To answer your question, absolutely please do Season 2. This made the last couple of days at work really chill. Im also just glad you enjoyed making these so much.

Hooky almost feels like an innuendo for drug use. Patrick thinks its a carnival (Just for fun/not a big deal), Mr. Krabs literally warns about getting "Hooked" and then SpongeBob even tries it again knowing the risk and ends up "Hooked"

a huge wave of nostalgia hit me. I love spongebob! You are never too old to watch Spongebob!

39:04 Fun fact, squidward being in a full body cast implies that he broke a ton of internal bones. One problem though, he's canonically an octopus, despite what his name implies. Octopuses, or octopi or whatever DON'T HAVE BONES.

I love how the squeaky boots episode pays homage to Edgar Allen Poe’s Tale Tell Heart with the floor board and insanity of the squeak, similar to the insanity of the heartbeat heard constantly throughout the poem.

Thanks so much for watching, my friend! 😁 I wanna bring back the ATLA series for sure! That was a tough one. I started it when I was at the crossroads of whether or not I should leave my job at 911 to become a full time KZreadr. At the time, I was uploading those videos and they were doing REALLY BADLY. It made me feel like my channel was failing and I’d be a 911 dispatcher for the rest of my life. I still have passion for that series, but I realized that I want to change how I approach it. I might go for a few episodes per video instead of one at a time.

For me anything before the first SpongeBob movie was pure gold, after the first movie is when things started to go down. Not right away but you can tell that it didnt feel the same.

Fun fact about the Reef Blower short, the recording software and equipment wasn't working for whatever reason, and that's why there's only sound effects for anyone who didn't know

I like the I guess Easter egg in the Muscle-bob episode where SpongeBob mentions Tiny Tim, the guy who did a song cover of “Living in the Sunlight” from the first episode… it’s also weird that he knows a real person that’s not canon humans to the universe this early on…

Its criminal how videos like this get no views, I'm gonna watch it tomorrow throughout school and i'll let you know my thoughts!

Season 1 is my favorite for SpongeBob... the animation, the humor, the facial expressions on the characters, and the episodes even have LESSONS! Plus, it has some girl power too (with Sandy, Pearl and Mrs Puff and sometimes Karen). Shows like Fairy odd parents and Loud house make the female characters all annoying or bad, while SpongeBob actually didn't! Also, I like how we get to see different sides to SpongeBob and Squidward, rather than Squidward just being grumpy all the time or SpongeBob just being happy all the time. Especially sinc eSpongeBob is the main character we need to see his different emotions!

SpongeBob had more girl power than Disney ever wished they could... also, fairy odd parents and loud house were nickelodeon but were just as bad. Like, I think fairy odd parents was even worse than Disney movies! Disney channel had some girl power but their old movies were worse. Like, who wants to watch a movie from the 50s in today's world? No one! Like, Peter Pan and little mermaid are so sexist. People don't allow their kids to watch SpongeBob but they'll allow them to watch an underage girl wearing nothing but tiny seashells and an overly sexualized body, who falls in love with some dumb hunk prince? Also, CatDog , Invader Zim, and Robot & Monster had some girl power too but they weren't anywhere near as popular! Give SpongeBob the credit it deserves (also I mentioned about the earliest episodes showing different sides to Spongebob as well, like his angry side)

I feel like the very first episode is a good episode as an example of being on the spectrum. The fact they doubt SpongeBob because he’s clumsy and different but then he proves that he is the best at the job and how his hyperfixation and desire for a job everyone else makes fun of all combined makes them realize he’s worth the position and that he’s an awesome worker. There are so many good episodes but the first episode will always be the one I watch that makes me smile when I’m having a day where I’m mean to myself and need something to remind myself that just because im different and I’m doubted doesn’t mean I’m not worth a job or anything else in life and can prove myself if given a legitimate chance. RIP and thank you Steve Hillenberg for this show. I hope he’s having a good time in the afterlife being his awesome marine biologist self :)

ohh what a good reading of the first episode! i’ve always felt so connected to spongebob because of this. like spongebob, i can be quite naive and say goofy or corny things and get extremely excited and passionate about things that dont seem that important to others or react inappropriately to the situation at hand, but that doesn’t mean we’re not also kind and caring and capable in our own ways and deserve to be loved and treated as people.

Yeah we’re going to need a part 2. Amazing work as usual!

"SB-129" is my all-time favorite episode of SpongeBob Even as a child, it was always my favorite Honestly, it's one of my favorite episodes of television as a whole

I would love to see you cover most iconic episodes of cow and chicken in the future. That show is underrated, the red guy is literally the best part in the show and I love every episode he's in.

The first season was pure gold that is filled with iconic moments like the Reef blower episode and SpongeBob ripping his pants. The way he breaks down each episode in a 6 hour video really captures the essence of why this show is timeless. Great job with the biggest project!

Dude I literally grew up with SpongeBob I watched it ever since I was a 2 year old no regrets

1:35:37 From the other fishes who stares at Bubble Bass, I believe they have some items stolen by him as well

During the treasure map episode, I remember it slightly different when they were digging up the treasure. I swear SpongeBob and Patrick were digging then SB shouted "WE'VE GOT IT CAP'N KRABS!" then immediately afterwards adding on "Oh no wait that's cat poop!" Then they dug a little more THEN found the treasure. I don't know where this alternative memory came from, maybe it was something my friends and I joked About when watching the episode, but I swear it played out like that originally.

one of my first vivid memories was when i first watched spongebob. i remember pick boy counting down to the premier of spongebob squarepants. i don’t remember what event they were at but there was a crowd behind him.
