REVIEW | Wild Arms 2

Ойындар

Continuing my Wild Arms saga! This wasn't what I was expecting to say the least. Eh, Wild Arms 2 did not live up to the hype sadly. Granted I will be playing and reviewing Wild Arms 3!
" Wild Arms: Second Ignition is a sequel, but you needn't have played the first to understand it. This role-playing game features all new characters and is packed with quests, side quests, and plenty of battles. The world of Filgaia is rendered in 3-D, and you can rotate the field map to help find traps and treasures hidden within the landscape. Also, the game allows you to avoid fights whenever you want, so you'll have the strategic benefit of picking your battles. "

Thank you for reviewing Wild Arms 2, this is a childhood classic of mine and remember it so fondly (and at times not so fondly). I did try to play WA1 when I first saw it but I didn't know what I was doing wrong when I got all three protags to group up and somehow got stuck there at the beginning. I never realized WA2 felt easy, since I struggled really bad against the Kanon fights, but I guess it's also cause I didn't do a good job of managing their personal skills early on (as well as missing some crests for Lilka). Even if many may remember it as not the best follow up to WA1, it's always a fond memory for me. Ashley is my WAs protag of choice... behind Virginia :D

This is a game I need to go back to sometime soon. I loved the first Wild ARMs, but when I played this, I didn’t get far in it. It just didn’t pull me in. I can’t say what exactly it was, if there were just other games that caught my attention more or what. Maybe it was the characters, like you said, feeling lacking compared to the original cast. I know the scan for landmarks mechanic seemed tedious and unnecessary to me. Whatever it was, after multiple attempts, I’ve always put this one down. I feel like I owe this game a fair shake. I appreciate the detail in your review to give me some expectations going in. :) Great video!

I was looking for an LP of this game after watching a recap of the first game the other day and I lucked out and found this video. I LOVE finding people who play the same games I did when I was young especially those who make videos about them. I loved this game and never knew there was a split. I ended up playing 2 before I just like I ended up playing Chrono Cross before Chrono Trigger so I guess the first game really was a better adventure but playing the sequel first made me feel different? I love WA2 to death but anyway this was a great review. I REALLY like this channel and plan to binge it now.

Researching the Wild Arms series since I was thinking about giving 3 a shot again and gave the video a watch. As 2 is the only one I played completely through, was a little surprised at the low rating, but I had nothing to compare it to and I'm probably blinded by nostalgia. It was the longest game I had ever played until playing games like Fallout or Witcher and I just remembered the hours I spent trying to beat the bosses, finding all the secrets, dungeon puzzles, and with the characters who I grew pretty attached to (again, never played WA1). Hitting the milestones like Karen joining after fighting her for so long, taking out the Muses, flying the jet thing, even encountering Liz and Ard were among my favorite parts. Emulator Zone and Millennium puzzles were the bane of my existence, but beating them made me want to cheer. And the music. Such good music. Especially the one you mentioned. Every time I came back to the main town, it made me feel as if I had come home again, despite the hardships the plot piled on us. Thanks for making this vid taking me down memory lane.

Just finished playing both from PlayStation 1, nice action game at the time of it's release, but the second, despite the improvements is just not as good. It lacks the amazing soundtrack and characters personalities...just like you I came out thinking " why this feels boring?" Been waiting on this one. I remember playing this game back in 2003 and enjoying it for the most part. 17 years later and I don't remember much from it besides some tracks that stood out (the one you mentioned being one, The first dungeon theme, the world map theme and that kick ass Knight Blazer theme.) And the beautifully animated intros. Oh...and that annoying ass octagon maze puzzle at the beginning of disc 2. I think 6 is a fair grade to be honest. Its not a bad game by means just very forgettable. Like most older JRPGs, I feel like its the nostalgia that keeps some fans praising it. It just doesn't hold up nowadays in my opinion.

Not a bad experience by any means. It just left a lot of room for improvement. I hope you continue on to WA3. It is my personal favorite (the soundtrack is leaps and bounds better than even WA1), but again, it's pretty divisive, and I can understand why. At the very least, we're back to having some good villains (emphasis on "some") and protagonists with a proper localization, so... progress?

You're a crazy person. WA2 is the best in the series imo. I agree with you about the second intro song though, that one is epic.

I liked this game way back when. The summons were pretty weird in a good way. The grey alien-looking summon looked like an Ultra Man villain. I thought Marivel the secret vampire girl was fun.

I’m trying to decide which Wild Arms to download from PS3 store. I had 1 when it came out and loved the music 🎶 but never beat the game. I should probably start with 1 after watching this and reading the comments

Wild ARMs is one of my all time favorite Playstation games, a game my older brother and I pulled our allowances together to buy and both loved it. But we never played any other titles in the series. As kids we received a Wild ARMs 2 demo disc in the mail for some reason. I think my brohter signed up for some Playstation Underground thing or something? Not sure, but we popped in the demo and I don't know what it was about it, but it just did not grab us at all. (all I recall is you could only play as Brad, I think? And there was a train. And lots of dirt) Neither of us ever actually went back and even completed the demo. Just something about the game that was so uninteresting. Doesn't sound like we missed out on much.

Yeaaaaaaah, I consider myself a pretty big Wild ARMs fan, and 2 is easily least favorite... it has good in it, for sure, but the tone shift sucked, I didn't care about anyone, and for me, the lower difficulty took away the odds of the game wowing me with gameplay in lieu of story elements... by the way, love your channel, keep doing you. :)

First of all, that is a great look for your hair; at first, I wasn't even sure if it had highlights or it was just some lighting trick. Of course, your hair always looks great, but I had to say it. I did find the battle music when Ashley transforms into Major Spoiler to be very interesting; the... would you call them alarms? in the background sound almost like the PSG that the SEGA Master System and Genesis use, and that's very unusual. As for the story, I've always felt that the value of a Wild Arms story isn't how "good" it is, but how ridiculous it is, so I loved the COMPLETELY DUMB curve ball it threw at the end. The problem is stupid, the solution is stupid, but through it all, you're like, "Yeah... YEAH! LET'S DO IT!" It's like if Contra became a JRPG somehow. It's that level of absurdity that still manages to stoke enthusiasm that I've always loved about them. That said, Wild Arms 2 is the most ridiculous out of the ones I've played 3 makes you wait a while before that sort of thing happens, and it's not quite as crazy. As for the world map thing, I loved it, but you have to keep in mind that I cut my teeth on the original Dragon Warrior; I liked going back to the idea of "40 paces east; 57 paces north", and you have to rely on your navigational skills, rather than "There's a big thing over there" to find your destination, almost like a puzzle; I TOTALLY get why anyone would hate it.
