Review of the Garmin STRIKER Vivid 4CV. zero b.s.

Спорт

I'm obviously new to using sonar, so this is just my first impression.
However, as I get better at tweaking the settings, my opinion will probably change or at least be altered.
for my first trip out, I left almost everything on "Auto". Next trip, I will fiddle with the contrast, etc a bit more.

    $160 from bass pro, comes with the mount. Fit perfectly on my Old Town, works like a champ. Lots of videos showing it in action here which is why I got it. Really good machine

    I map a lot of rivers in Ontario so for that reason it is well worth it. I have the GT 20 transducer attached to a sports pal canoe for finding salmon during late summer and fall. In the winter I use the same unit but I switch out the G 20 transducer to the GT8HW-IF transducer for ice fishing for white fish, perch and Lakers and using way points on a frozen lake to get around and mark fish is awesome.

    I do two types of Kayak fishing. Pan fishing and trolling for Catfish. I bought mine mainly for the speed and maps. I look for the channel, set my trolling motor on .4 mph and troll for Catfish. It works great for that. I never watch my screen for finding fish. Structure a tad but mainly don’t watch it

    These are incredibly useful for freshwater fishing, if you fish deep water. Where I fish, the bay goes from 10 foot shelfs to 70 feet of water in a matter of moments. Without the finder you would be fishing blind when targeting walleye and perch. Not to mention fishing drops for big predator fish looking for food. There is no way to be able to tell from the surface where exactly the drop starts beneath you without using something like this.

    Yep. It's super handy for sure, and the small size means it doesn't take up much room at all.

    Do you think it'll be able to work at 400-600ft? (off shore, salt water), all the videos i've seen are for shallow water :(

    Max depth in saltwater is listed as 830 feet, so it should be good to around 800 with accurate results.

    Its a tool. Not a magic box. I honestly got mine to waypoint underwater rock hazards. Just something you need to be aware of when you put a motor on your kayak. Seeing fish and underwater structure is just a bonus.

    Very true. I never plan to motorize my kayaks though. Mainly, it's useful for finding the rough depth fish are hanging out in, not targeting specific fish.

    The regular striker 4 does not have the auto mapping features. You have to at least get the striker 4 plus or striker 4 vivid if those features are a must.

    I need your help please. I am a freshwater angler. I only buy reels & rods, and I have no Kayak nor a boat, but sometimes I rent a boat when I head down to a lake in VA. I have literally zero experience on fish sonars, or anything related to it. I have a budget of around $500-$600 to purchase a portable bundle to use on a rented boat then to mount it on a Kayak maybe next year because I am planning to buy me one. I am oscillated between Castable sonars, specifically Deeper CHIRP 2 and a portable bundle like the Garmin Stricker 4 or the Garmin Echomap UHD. Can you advise on this please? Thanks

  • @TheAverageFisherman99

    @TheAverageFisherman99

    Жыл бұрын

    Sure. I'd recommend the striker 4 if you are using it in a kayak or boat. Coupled with a 5Ah lithium iron phosphate battery. I purchased a Garmin striker Vivid 4CV, a 5Ah battery, a mini ammo box to house the battery, a charger, and a transducer mounting arm. Grand total was right at the $350-$400 mark. Castable sonars have come a long way, but if you are going to get a boat/kayak soon anyhow, you come out spending less by just getting the Striker 4, and skipping the castable sonars units, most of which actually cost more than the Garmin Striker 4.
