Tighten the screws that hold on the bottom (just a bit) and it will not detach when you lift it. I did that and have no problems. Also, for wanting more tension, put the EEW on a silicon pad. The pad adds friction between the wheel and the table, so that you can have more tension on the fiber. I do this too and it works very nicely.

Quick EEW6 story: I have four traditional style spinning wheels (Ashford Traditional, Ashford Traveller, Ashford Elizabeth, and an antique flax wheel). I love them all and feel confident spinning what I like on all of them. I bought a pound of cashmere fiber for a steal and tried unsuccessfully to spin it on all four of my wheels. It’s such a fine, short fiber that even the lightest tension on my wheels was too much, and I couldn’t physically treadle fast enough to get enough twist into it. I stashed it away for a long time. Then I bought the EEW6 (for reasons, mainly the portability), and it spins the cashmere perfectly! Not a single break! I’m able to fine tune the speed vs take up just right. Highly recommend for lace weight and fine fiber spinners!

With fine sandpaper, sand the brake band groove on the bobbins and your twine brake band will not shred. Where the two halves of the bobbin pieces meet it isn’t smooth and will abrade your bands. Once my bobbin grooves were sanded I have not had a brake band shred. I do not keep my orfice hook near the wheel; I’ve had the single/yarn pop off the hooks while stopping the wheel and orfice hook got snagged and almost flew into my face. I believe Maurice has a disclaimer about that now. I did get the ceramic circular flyer hooks and love them - no more flying yarn at deceleration. I guess I’m a fast spinner/plyer! I got my EEW6 for plying, but portability led me to spin singles and it’s amazing!

Also, the bobbins had a little raw edge where the drive band sets in, from the molding. I just sanded that down with some very fine sandpaper and now my cotton drive bands are lasting longer, but I am going to try the cord you mentioned. As for the bottom coming off, I did just tighten those screws a little more. Thank you for ALL of your videos!!! I have watched (and rewatched) so many of them. I bought my EEL 6.0 about a year and a half ago only using it a few times until I broke my foot last summer. It was perfect since I was able to keep my foot elevated and still spin. My husband likes it for the small space it takes when we travel unlike my Lendrum or my Ashford Joy! It’s going to be a part of our long travel next summer to Alaska as it will fit just fine in the camper. For traveling I keep the wheel, all its parts, and a few braids ready to spin in a long tote I bought from Maurice clothing store. A few weeks ago I purchased a rolling cart, though, that I use in our winter home. I like it so much that I’ll probably get one for our Michigan home, too. 😊

I too have had to replace the tension string but chose to use worsted cotton yarn which is working out just fine. I find I spin more as it can sit on the coffee table in front of the couch so I can be with people instead of in the “craft room” where the lendrum is. I have decades of spinning experience and multiple wheels. I got my EEW6 in April 2021 and have spun many miles on it and love it. It also had the motor problem when it first came, and it was so easy to replace that I don't even remember much about it. Same good customer service. I made my own lightweight carrying box that also serves as the table to hold it, and I put some industrial strength velcro on the lid and the bottom of the 6 that holds it securely in place. I don't use the kate that came with it because one section of my box is my kate. The 6 gets a hearty endorsement from me. Just tighten the screws on the base about half a turn and it will stay on but still be removeable. I use an extra long cord for the brake band and if it wears through I just unwind a little more and tie it to the spring. It doesn't happen often.

I use a rolling cooler with hard interior to hold my 6,along with all the bobbins, extra bobbins, fiber, maybe a knitting project, etc. The other nice thing about it is that I can set it on the top of the cooler and use it as a table. It's also has elastic cord on top that I use to help hold the lazy case when plying. I store that in the lid. Oh, and it has cup holders on top, lol. My nano bobbins fit in them too😅

Thanks for making this video, Trish. I have to agree with you on every point! I have six wheels, three of them electric, and the Eel 6.0 is by far my favourite electric wheel. The Spinolution Firefly was a massive disappointment and the most expensive (that lives in a cupboard because I can't even look at it); the Ashford espinner 3 is great, and I use it a lot for plying (cos it's heavier than the Eel and I've got a Woolee Winder for it); but the Eel is my go-to for singles. My only niggles are it goes through break bands like no-one's business, and I find it scoots around on my desk if I don't weigh it down with something heavy. I love spinning singles super fast, so I almost always have it at the highest speed. Those are my only niggles - I wouldn't even call them complaints. My favourite wheel is the Matchless, and my favourite electric wheel is the Eel 6.0. And I think for the price, you can't beat it.

I love my EEW6. I agree that the 100 day return policy is short! I have travelled with my machine and was sooo happy with how it managed. I would say the one downside I have found is the brake band. Mine wore out within weeks of spinning with it (during TdF 2023). I'd say if there was one uprade that could be made with a future EEW it would be the material that band is made of. I'm glad you guys made friends!! Also, when budget allows, I'll use your affiliate code to get that battery option - love it!

The brake band issue is really a bobbin issue. Some of the bobbins aren’t completely smooth when they arrive. Any roughness in the groove basically sands down and wears through the brake band. A little fine sandpaper in the groove will take care of the issue. However, I replaced my cotton brake band with nylon after it wore out …

LOVE mine - I got it to see if I wanted to spin. The only thing that I find is my motor gets the static build up and shuts off. It is an easy fix (turn it back on). There is a video as well showing how to ground the motor. I did it with aluminum foil and electrical tape and haven't had any further problems. I did end up getting a tredle wheel, but still use and love the EEW 6.0. 🥰

I have only used mine for plying but love it. Want to try woolenspun on it. I have a mat for under my sewing machine that I got from “Madam Sew” that keeps it from sliding around. It may not help with the tension you use when plying, but it may help….shelf liner might work too.

nblmqst is right, the screws just need to be tightened. It kind of sounds and feels like will something might break but it's fine. I'm always scared of dropping it and breaking the crap out of it lol. I've been pretty lucky all the way around because I got my 6.0 for $100, the motor has been great and none of bands have broken yet. The grippy nobs on the bottom hold mine pretty well but like others have said, I'm sure a silicone pad helps. Mine came with the foot pedal on and off switch that I love as well. Holy cow!!! Those only had a 100 day warranty? I never knew that. That's kind of a big con. Of course it can't compare to the Hansen...that's wood. I'm a big fan of wood lol...but not the price LOL. I keep wanting to figure out how to make my own in our wood shop LOL.

Thanks so much for the review, perfect timing as I'm getting this wheel for Christmas from my husband! Great info for the 100 day warrenty, I didn't look into that though I did take the wheel out and turn it on briefly as the box was damaged when it arrived. Was your problem with the motor that it wouldn't turn on at all or was there a problem I would only see if I tried spinning on it? Ohh, that backpack is perfect! I have one very similar that was a diaper bag for my kids, I'll have to dig that out before Christmas and see if my wheel/bobbins will fit in there too!

I've had an EEW 6.0 for about a year now and it's become my primary wheel. My only problem was the cord, which once I was advised to use Paracord, I haven't had any problems since.

I love my EEW! Yes, the fact that the 2 halves pop apart drives me crazy but not enough to screw the screws tighter apparently. I don't love it for plying. I spun so many singles this summer and I did all my plying on my Kiwi 3. Seven skeins... all either traditional 3 ply or chain plied. I just feel like I'm not getting enough draw in. Maybe I should try a paracord brake band?

The EEW6 is my first spinning wheel since I experimented with spinning in the 70's 😀 I wanted to do this low profile - my craft room, like yours, over floweth. I just tightened up the screws to keep the base from coming loose all the time. My only complaint about this wheel is that the brake/tension band has no marking on it so I can't tell what it needs to be from session to session. I always loosen the band when I stop spinning. I know that the tension will be different as the band stretches and of course if you have to change out the band, but I put a white mark on the tension knob so that I have a visual idea of how much I'm tightening it up. I think that I'm just too new to doing this to be able to tell just by feel.

I bought my EEW6 because there was no way I could afford a Hansen and even an Ashford was a bit too much of a stretch but honestly I love it. I don’t have a problem with it traveling because I use it on a trolley that has a shallow edge to push against. I’m glad you like yours too. Edit, btw I did see a mention of using fine sandpaper to smooth the brake band grooves on the bobbins to help extend the brake band life. Sometimes the 3D printing leaves rough spots.

Oh my gosh- this was such an awesome video. Even though I’ve had my 6 for over a year. Yes yes yes…. I Love it. I take it to my monthly knit/spin group all the time - SO So why was this great? I had NO idea the bottom was designed for the battery to fit in…. I mean…. Are you kidding me!!!! Shut Up!!!!! Lol😂 Also, I have now added that back pack to my wish list. The bag I use just overflows!!! I kinda expected some discussion about the differences between this and a regular wheel, ya know ratios and all that, but the other thing to mention is how much you can get on one bobbin.it’s ridiculous. Really to me the only thing that could make it better is a moving bobbin so you didn’t have to change hooks. 😮😮

I've had my EEW6 for over a year now. At first I bought an Ashford for my first e-wheel (I did and still do have "normal" wheels, too) and I hated it. To see if it was the wheel or me I bought the EEW - and loved it at once, so the Ashford got to go. It was so clumsy and heavy and finicky to adjust and the bobbins are horribly clumbersome to store. All that was fine with the EEW. Also, Ashford's customer service is awful, whereas Maurice is just amazing at responding and fixing things. To me the EEW is when I'm too fatiqued or sick to spin on a normal wheel, so I'm not using it as my go to -wheel. But when I do, I love it, and it works like charm. The only thing I'm missing with it is double drive 😅

Hi .I have got to tell you what happened to my nano. I burnt out 3 motors and I had to send it back to get it mended. I was told I had been over using it. If you want to spin for a long time you have to let it cool down every 30 minutes. I got rid and got myself a proper wheel.

I need 6 more bobbins for my side quests! Yes, their customer service is great, mine had a broken direction switch and they sent me a new one with great instructions within a couple of days. Haven't had a problem since. Yup, that's how I put my drive band on, too. Works like a charm. Speaking of orifice, you don't have the reducer on, are you planning on spinning a thicker yarn here, because it doesn't look thick? Or are you just better without the reducer than newbme? lol
