Return to Running Following ACL Reconstruction
There is a very big gap in the literature for when it is safe to return to running following ACL reconstruction. The Melbourne ACL Rehabilitation Guide aims to fill this gap by having a "Running, Jumping and Agility" phase where patients must pass basic strength criteria as shown in the video.

Also not mentioned in the video but is it mentioned in the Melbourne ACL Rehabilitation Guide (so get your copy), you must be swelling free and pain free in addition to performing these moves before moving on to running.
Excellent recommendations and video, thank you! Had my knee operated 3 times and learn a lot from your instructions. You have much more realistic and adequate targets than what I have seen recommended in some British site, where for instance you had to be able to 30 single leg heel rises (4 seconds per rise). Before my surgery I did sports (football, running, swimming, gym) every day for 90min, and even then found it challenging to do 30 single leg heel rises and not certain I could have done them with 4 seconds per repetition.
Had my acl surgery on 15th jan 2019, still have some knee strengthening issues. Trying your exercises
Very useful informations .. Thanks Bro
Hey Mick, 20 SL hamstring bridges even if hamstring graft ACL?
Hey mate I'm an 18 year old and I had my ACL reconstruction 7 months ago with a hamstring graft and a meniscus trim .After watching your video i noticed my operated leg had some more difficulty doing the hamstring bridges, but i managed to do 20 and can do more. I also noticed that sitting back down after doing the single leg rises wasn't as controlled as my other leg. Is this normal at this stage or should I be concerned? I also noticed my sprint speed was much less than before my ACL tear and was wondering if it'll come back and I can run as fast as I could before as I play a lot of soccer. Thanks a lot!
I've had ACL+MINISCUS surgery 3 months ago. I can run properly. Already began my exercises to return playing football. Its not that hard, best of luck guys.

I’m 45 years old and was very active before my acl recon which I did 18 years after tearing it. It’s taking me way longer than I thought. Just hit 3 months and I’m probably a month away from running.
when you say return to running, do you mean jogging or full speed running/sprinting? I am 7 months out. I can jog at 6.5 miles per hour with good if not perfect form. I could do these tests.
Hey dr.mick can start running 8 month 90 kg
May I ask the source of the information?
Once you green light to return to running, how would you then proceed Mick? Eg 30s run/ 4.5 walk x5 1min run/ 4 walk x5 etc.... every second day. And monitoring acute:chronic workloads for the “sweet spot” Also any preference for running surface? Eg. Hard concrete vs softer gravel? Cheers, 👍🏻

i retuned to full straight leg after 2 months. I have a habit of lying on my stomach and play with my phone, half my leg dangling on the edge of the bed, with gravity pulling ur leg straight. It helped a lot and I really didnt even notice that it was working that way

Can we wear tennis shoes instead of leather shoes for these tests? 😂
