    You just made me spend £60 on eBay. My old copy I got for Christmas in 1987 disintegrated years ago. But I found a pristine one on ebay after watching this vid. I am happy. So many good memories from my childhood playing this game.

    This is the 2nd time I’m going through this playlist- man it’s just as good as the first time too. These are great. I got into Warhammer with the ultramarine codex of 1994 or so. 2nd edition I believe. It’s a great walk through memory lane. Fun time. If you need any ideas /suggestions for future retro hammer; perhaps the 54mm inquisition game? Thanks again!

    I always wanted to take my book to GW and have the creators/artists/ writers sign their 40k image.....that would be priceless, and not in monetary value. Great look back at the book that hooked so many of us. ♥️

    I bought the hard back book as soon as it came out. I loaned it to a "friend". He put it in his trunk and brake fluid got on it and ruined it. I then bought a soft bound copy, because they had no more hard copies. I hate dan rosioni to this day...

    So, I've recently been scouring Rick Priestley interviews for information on the Tyranids origins, and I came across this little gem: "The only reason I put Jokaero in was because we made a model Orang-utan in the 2000AD range (Dave the Mayor of Mega-City 1)." talesfromthemaelstrom.blogspot.com/2011/09/rick-priestley-interview.html So there it is!

    Also at this time, I think John Blanche was my god. Blanch-it-su is still one of the best series that White Dwarf ever ran. That dude got and I think his work encapsulated the concept of Grim Dark the best. When I think of 40k I envision in my head Blanch's work.

    12:00 I really wish they had brought this back in 8th. Making cover affect your save makes no sense to me at all. I remember when the rules changes rumors in 8th when it first came out and they said it affected your save I was like oh yeah they got that wrong. Lol

  • @leakycheese

    It's a simplification or perhaps abstraction that generally works. Cover should affect the to hit roll but the rules writers made the decision to put all the numerical modifiers on the saving throw to keep things simple. I guess it is what it is?

    The Game Master was thee Rogue Trader that the game was named for, this review is clearly done with hindsight in the later game. The spoils of war for the Ultramarines taking slaves... Well yes, they were the mailed fist of the Rogue Trader, The Warrant Of Trade that get the Rogue Trader is powers gave him the ability to take command of any Imperial forces including the Imperial Guard, Chapter Masters of the Adeptus Astartes and the holy orders of the Imperial Inquisition, which included the Grey Knights. You talk about it like it was played like 2nd, 3rd, 4th edition etc. Not by all the people I played with it wasnt. 2nd edition played like a very different game. the mechanics of the rules were the same but the game was different. For me at least. When you say you played it as a wargame from the start how did you do that? Its really interesting to talk to somebody who played the game back when I started as I dont know anybody who played the RT rules.

  • @ironbomb6753

    @ironbomb6753

    We played it as a wargame. No game master, just two sides. We had a set points value, picked our forces, set up terrain and moved..threw dice and removed models as they were "killed". Those early days were incredible as ALL of it was new. Tho we had played DnD, and some historical wargames, 40k ruled.

    @@ironbomb6753 I think you missed the point of what I said. In RT you had the option to play either or, when 2nd edition came there was no choice it was a wargame.

    It was September/October 1987 White Dwarf 93 that was the start of 40k with the Crimson Fists Chapter correct? this is for a personal history project. Covering the "First Shown" of certain board games. Does anyone have any answers?

    There or there about... not sure when Rick Priestley did the writing work on Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. The artwork was by John Sibbick, I presume it was painted to their spec depicting the Crimson Fists. The Crimson Fists chapter have a very dark satirical origin, if you research Loyalist paramilitary groups from Northern Ireland's Troubles you'll see what I mean.

    Would it be possible to include kit-bashed robot models in 40k today based on what I see in the old 1st edition rulebook? I would think so long as a Techmarine or a member of the Adeptus Mechanicus is present to keep the bot in line. Bomb-bots would also add an extra layer of danger to any game of 40k too.
